  • Governor’s wife advocates more cancer awareness

Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, wife of Ondo State Governor, has called on non-governmental organisations to raise awareness on cancer and its impact in the country.

She made this call in Abuja at a music and comedy fund raising show organised by Project Pink Blue, a cancer non-profit campaign organisation.

Mrs Akeredolu, a breast cancer survivor, noted that cancer can be defeated when people are enlightened about the ailment and the need to go for regular checkups.

According to her, the idea of referring the ailment to spiritual attack is contributing to the high rate of preventable deaths in the country.

“I am a 21 years cancer survivor and I am still alive, but the entry point to defeating cancer is education.

“Education is very important in the fight against any type of cancer but in this our environment, we are held back by all sort of misconceptions on what causes cancer and how it can be treated.

“We attribute it to spiritual attack, so instead of going to the hospital, we keep going to prayer mountain thereby wasting time.

“People do not know that early detection is the key but we find out that by the time victims report to the hospital, their cases would have gotten to Stage 3 or Stage 4,” she said.

She also called on Nigerians to make financial support to the treatment of cancer victims in the country.

A male breast cancer survivor, Mr Chuks Igbokwe, advised Nigerians to regularly check themselves of lumps in their breast area and also go to the hospital for mammogram check.

“The public should be aware that breast cancer is not exclusive to females only but men can also be victims of it.
“I implore everyone to always check themselves and also get themselves enlightened about the disease,” he said.

Fund were raised by ‘auctioning’ various celebrities and artists in the entertainment industry at the event.

The celebrities include Alex Unusual, Rachael Okoronkwo, Kemen, Ex-Mr Nigeria Bryan Okwara and Denrele Edun.

BBNaija: Kemen still at T-Boss’ mercy

The ‘enslavement’ continues disqualified Big Brother Naija housemate, Kemen, weeks after the show ended.

The former housemate from Akwa Ibom State seems to be trying hard to appease fellow contestant, Tokunbo Idowu aka T-Boss, who caused his expulsion, after his romantic advances towards her hit the rock.

Recall that Kemen allegedly fondled T-Boss without her consent during the recently concluded reality show.

A still angry T-Boss has been lambasting Kemen over his behaviour ever since she left the BBN house and on Sunday, during an interview, she disclosed that Kemen had phoned her more than 15 times but she did not pick up his call because she did not want to say anything she might regret.

T-Boss who disclosed she has seen Kemen few times after leaving the BBN house said she could not tolerate him talking from both sides of his mouth and even wanted to slap him.

“I just wanted to slap him,” she said.

“I think I even said that but then I came out and I said you know what… everyone can make mistake because I am an attractive person but then, I come out and I hear the interviews he has given, today he makes an apology and then tomorrow he comes out to say T-Boss knows what happened and that if there was no N25 million involved, hopefully she would tell the truth.”

Meanwhile, Kemen, when asked in a telephone interview with The Nation, to respond to T-Boss’ critical outbursts, said he has ‘no comments’ in his defense. When asked his response that T-Boss was maligning his character, Kemen also replied with the ‘no comments’ phrase.

Since Kemen was disqualified, he has yet to refute the allegation that he fondled T-Boss and responded that T-Boss knew the truth about what happened.

How Kemen, Uriel left Big Brother Naija show

The unusual happened on social reality show, Big Brother Naija (BBN), as Kemen was sacked from the competition for violating the rules of the game. This happened hours before the live eviction show, anchored by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, last Sunday.
Kemen, one of the two brawny housemates got the first warning strike last week for what Biggie described as conspiring with Marvis against some housemates for possible eviction. It was at this instance that Biggie cancelled last week’s nomination exercise and put up all the housemates, save for Bisola and Bally who had immunity and ThinTallTony who was able to save himself having won the Head of House task. It came as a surprise to viewers that Kemen broke the BBN rule again, especially having been made to write out the in-house rules in the aftermath of last week’s transgression. This time, he was found guilty of sexually harassing a female housemate, TBoss, while she was asleep. This is perhaps the first time any housemate will be disqualified from the show in the decade-long history of the Big Brother franchise in Africa.
Kemen, an opinionated BBN housemate, is a ship manager turned fitness entrepreneur and Port Harcourt’s most sought after personal trainer.
Banky W who visited the housemates as a celebrity guest penultimate week, made a second appearance on the show. This time, opening the live eviction show with his song, “All I Want Is You”. He later performed another of his hit songs, “Yes/No”.
Amidst palpable tension in the house, and suspense by Ebuka, the hammer of real eviction fell on Uriel, as the housemate to secure the least number of votes from fans. It was the first time that the Hammersmith, England-born housemate was put up for possible eviction. Having played her way smartly in the heart of other housemates, it was clear Uriel couldn’t garner enough liking from viewers.
Joining Ebuka on stage, Uriel was surprised to be faced with the crowd. “I’m in shock. This is crazy. I thought it was a joke. Can I go back…? “ she asked jokingly.
On her dual personality in the house, given her freer mien in the diary room, she said: “I just thought the diary room is where you go to and just express yourself and be you.”
About getting romantic with any male housemate, the radio personality who hails from Imo State said she has been single for a year and although she was attracted to Bassey whom she believed was indecisive.
Uriel who was the first housemate to enter the house on January 22, 2017, was also shocked to discover that Ese and Jon who left last week were fake housemates.
The remaining housemates can heave a sigh of relief as there will be no eviction next Sunday. However, Ebuka advised them to do less of bonding and focus on the prizes, as the game gradually moves towards the end.
The voting pattern revealed that Efe came tops with the highest vote of 39.9 percent. Kemen would have been evicted all the same, having scored 4.8 percent which represented the lowest number of votes. Uriel scored the second lowest with 7.9 percent, followed by Debbie-Rise with 8.3 percent; Bassey with 11.8 percent; Marvis with 12.9 percent and TBoss with 14.4 percent.

#BBNaija: No eviction next Sunday after Uriel, Kemen sent packing

There will be no eviction of any housemate from the Big Brother Nigeria House next Sunday.

This was the decision of Biggie after two housemates were evicted for different reasons.

While Kemen was evicted for inappropriate behaviour to one of the housemates, TBoss, Uriel left the normal way, after scoring the lowest vote among the seven housemates billed for eviction.

The Seven housemates were; Efe, Uriel, Kemen, who has been disqualified for violating house rules, Debie-Rise, Bassey, TBoss, and Marvis.

Uriel, the housemates’ favourite got the lowest votes of 7.9.

She would have been saved because Kemen had 4.8. But he was earlier disqualified, which brought Uriel next in line.

In a brief interview with Ebuka after she left the house, Uriel said that everything in the house about her was real.

The Imo State born make up artist said it was an amazing experience in the house with challenging tasks.

“Things that I would normally not be able to do, I did them in the Big Brother House.”

She said Ese was cool and knew the right button to press, but that no one can press her (Uriel’s) button.

She also explained that Ese said some nasty things about her in the Diary Room adding that she also gave it back to her.

However, she was shocked when Ebuka revealed to her that Ese and Jon were fake housemates.
The fifth evicted housemate said she would focus on her music and may open a beauty shop outside the Big Brother Naija Game Show.

The eviction night show saw Nigerian talented Rhythm and Blues singer Banky W putting up a scintillating performance.

NAN reports that Uriel’s eviction on Day 42 has brought to five of the housemates that have been evicted. With Kemen, being disqualified, six housemates have now left the show.

Those evicted were Coco Ice, Soma, Miyonse and Gifty; six housemates are still in the house for the 25 million naira and an SUV prize to the winner. They are ThinTallTony, Debie-Rise, Efe, TBoss, Marvis and Bassey.
