    Police arrest two suspected kidnappers, impersonator

    Sokoto State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers, Uwaisu Hassan, 20 and Kabiru Lawal, 25.

    They are from Rikina village in Dange/Shuni Local Government.

    Briefing reporters yesterday while parading the suspects, spokesperson Cordelia Nwawe said the men, through the phone, threatened Fatima Shehu to give them N2 million, or else they would kidnap her two children.

    She said: “The suspects are labourers in their victim’s home. One of them, who has Fatima’s number, called and threatened her. She alerted the police and our men swung into action, leading to their arrest.”

    Nwawe confirmed the arrest of Nasiru Ahmed of Arkilla Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, Sokoto for allegedly stealing 120 Techno phones valued at N822,000 at   Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto.

    She said the phones belonged to Earnest Onuorah of Hajiya Halima Albarka Modern Market, Sokoto.

    Nwawe said Ahmed, a clearing agent at the airport, was arrested for stealing six Techno T528 phones, which he sold at N4,000 each to two people, who were also in the police net.

    “He confessed to have stolen one carton containing 120 Techno T528 phones.

    “What he does is that he targets his victims while performing his duties at the airport.

    “Our investigation also led to the arrest of four other suspects- Mubarak Mustapha, Mubarak Musa, Abubakar Muhammad and Suleiman Ahmed,” she said.

    The spokesperson said the command nabbed a police personnel impersonator, Usman Danmaliki, of Rikina village in Dange Shuni Local Government.

    Kidnappers of expatriates, slain Taraba lawmaker arrested

    Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested kidnappers of the Canadians and Americans on the Abuja/Kaduna road.

    A statement by the spokesman, Tony Opuiyo, added that the kidnappers of the late Taraba Lawmaker Hosea Ibi, a Senator, a lecturer and an Army Warrant Officer were also arrested.

    They were arrested between last December and February.

    Isaiah Suwe (23), was said to have led the DSS operatives to Gbise in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, where Barnabas Torva Amadu (aka Ataminin); Aondi Tersoo (21); Nengenen Mbaawuaga (22); Aondoase Kayitor (18) and Ternenge Tersoo (19), were arrested for their alleged involvement in the kidnap and murder of Ibi.

    The statement reads: “Suwe is an accomplice of the notorious kidnapper, Terwase Akwaza (aka Ghana), who is wanted. Amadu participated in the kidnap and murder of Ibi. About nine SIM cards, different telephone brands and accessories, as well as a First Bank ATM card, a flash drive, one Voters’ card and one ID card, belonging to Moses Yaro, a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Taraba State, were recovered from the gang.

    “On February 21, at Igu area of Benin City, Edo State, the service arrested five members of the Gemere kidnap gang – Usman Umaru; Abubakar Umaru; Garba Umaru; Abubakar Garba and Umar Bello – which operates on the Lokoja/Okene highway. They were responsible for the kidnap of some Canadians and Americans.

    “The service, on January 20, arrested the gang leader, Abubakar Muhammed (aka Gemere) on the Lokoja/Okene highway. He was killed in a gun battle.

    “On February 20, at Ambaliya area of Jalingo, Taraba State, Mohammed Babangida Isma’il was arrested in possession of firearms and he is being investigated…”

    Pregnant woman rescued from suspected kidnappers

    A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) team on Sunday morning rescued a pregnant woman from suspected kidnappers in Badagry, Lagos.

    The Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Bisi Kazeem, said in a statement on Sunday that the woman gave birth to a baby boy immediately after she was rescued.

    “At about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday Feb. 25, 2018, a team from the Badagry Unit of FRSC led by Assistant Route Commander, Peace Danboyi, accosted a vehicle with registration number KTU 356 CE at AP Filling station before Aradagun Bus stop in Badagry, Lagos.

    “In the vehicle were two suspected kidnappers (male) and a pregnant woman who was their victim.

    “The pregnant woman, who had body injuries, was rescued to Ola-Oki Hospital, Ibereko, where she immediately gave birth to a baby boy,’’ he said.

    Kazeem said it took the prompt intervention of soldiers to rescue the suspects from a mob that had attempted to attack the suspected kidnappers.

    “The soldiers arrested and handed them over to the police in Badagry, while Corps Marshal of FRSC, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, has expressed appreciation to the gallant officers and commended them for their bravery,’’ he said.

    The statement also said that Oyeyemi assured the public that his men would always be on roads to ensure safe traffic and security of lives by cooperating with other law enforcement agencies.(NAN)

    IGP monitoring Unit bursts notorious kidnappers camp in Rivers

    Residents of Etche communities of Rivers State and their neighbouring Ukwa area of Abia state can now heave a sigh of relief, following the raid weekend of a notorious gang camp in the area by men of the Inspector-General of Police.

    The people have for a long time lived in intense fear of insecurity,  following the emergence in the area of a criminal group,  led by one Uchenna Okere (a k a Togo).

    The group who has reportedly held sway in the area have been endulged in all manner of criminality including kidnapping,  armed robbery,  killing,  cultusm among others has terrorized the communities to stupor without challenge.

    However help came to the residents last Friday following a midnilight raid of his camp by the IG monitoring unit in the state led by Ben Igwe,  Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

    The operation reportedly led to the rescue of a 17 year old daughter of a traditional ruler in Etcheland who was in the criminals custody for more than two weeks.

    The men also arrested a member of the gang and recovered arms and live bullets.

    Speaking to the nation, shortly after parading the suspects, Igwe said residents of the community were joyful over the police operations in the areas,  saying that it was the first time police or any other security agency has come to their aide,  since the uprising of Togo and his notorious gang in the place, adding that the exercise would bring about relative peace and security in Etched and it’s environs.

    He said, “If you know the joy if the people over the raiding you will understand that they have been living in great fear of insecurity in the place.

    “There is a notorious kidnapper,  cultist,  killer, name Uchenna Ekere (a. k. a.  Togo),  from Umuoko Etche, where he also built his camp, following a tip-off on the kidnap of the daughter of the traditional ruler of the area and that the people are helpless even when they suspected that the missing girl must be in his custody.

    “Following the outcry,  we left for the community about 1:am Saturday morning when we located their hideout, he engaged the police to a gun battle we over powered them,  they escaped we went in arrested one of them (Gift), and rescued the victim and recovers two guns and ammunition”

    He however vowed that the unit will not rest on its oars until Togo and other members of his gang are apprehended and peace is restored to the area.

    “It is not yet over,  we will continue to comb the area until the kingpin and his members were arrested.  They have ran away but relative peace have return to the communities around there,  even parts of Ukwa  area of Abia state,  where he holds way. He is referred to there as governor, and harvests levy from all the markets in that  axis in each market day,  we must make sure that his illegal reign in the area comes to an end and people there liberated,” he stressed.

    In a separate chat with the suspects, each denied the alleged involvement with the criminality of Togo and his men.

    The suspect said to be arrested from the burst camp,  Gift Nnodim said said,  “I am from Umuokom Etche, I am 21 years old,  I live at Umuokiri Aluu in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, I am a training in welding.

    “I travelled home last Sunday to assist my mother to harvest Palm fruits. This morning (yesterday), while I was in my compound with other members of my family,  the policemen came and held me.  They did not tell me what my offence was,” he said.

    Asked his relationship with one Togo,  the notorious criminal, admitted that he is his kinsman, and a renowned culists.

    Asked his connection with the cultist vowed no involvement with him and his activities,  adding that “If my phone is here right now,  you would have dialed Togo’s number and confirm whether or not it is stored in my phone, at least if I have any dealings with him,  his phone number willl be in phone,” he noted.

    Also speaking another suspect,  Chidiadi James (22) a hair barber said narrating how he was arrested said, “I was arrested from bed this morning.” he said that he was arrested about 6: am Saturday.

    Narrating her ordeal in the hands of her abductors, the victim  said she was beating,  tied up and left in the custody if armed men,  but denied any form of assault on her.

    In her words,  “I was coming back from school, when they accused me with a motor bike and took me away to far away village from where I was kidnapped. There were 15 of them.  They were taking me from one house to the other,  one village to another. They did not take me to their camp in the forest, but one of them pointed to me the direction of their camp.

    “When we got to the first house,  they asked me to release the contact number of my father I told them that I am an orphan, they now said,  then you will be here and be cooking for them.”

    Asked if all she was doing in the over two weeks she was with them was to cook for them, said she was not untied anyway to cook.

    “I was beaten severally,  blindfolded at some point and threatened with death. Some of the boys also threatened to rape me,  this sparked heated argument among them,  that they almost fought each other,  but they later did not touch me.”

    Asked if she was fed by the kidnappers said,  she was barely fed, and that she eats only when food was  given to her adding that the stepple meal there was indomie noddles.

    To her,  her parents were not aware of her whereabouts having exhausted all their links to no avail.

    The Kwara State Police Command yesterday paraded a gang of kidnapers and cattle rustlers in Ilorin, the state capital.

    The six suspects were said to have bolted with over 200 cows

    Parading the suspects in Ilorin, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Lawan Ado said the suspects were arrested in Niger state where they had escaped to.

    Ado explained that the police from the Niger state command were able to arrest the suspects after his command shared with the Mokwa police station in Niger state, intelligence about the movement of the suspects.

    He said that in the process of arresting the suspects, a police corporal, Machi Yusuf who is an operative of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), lost his life.

    Ado said that the policeman died in an exchange of gun fire with the kingpin of the kidnap gang, Adamu Abacha.

    He said Abacha, after the clash, escaped to the bush and his body was recovered by SARS operatives while combing the bush.

    ”They found his dead body on the ground and also recovered there, his AK 47 riffle he buried in the ground,” said the Police Commissioner.

    Ado said 233 cows were recovered from the gang and that six live ammunitions were retrieved alongside the rifle recovered from their dead boss.

     

    He said six of the gang members who were arrested would be charged to court as soon as investigation is conducted.

    The police boss also disclosed that two people among four suspected to have kidnapped a man, Hassan Taiye, in his mosque in Chikanda in Baruten local government area of the state had been arrested.

    He said four men two of whom were in Army uniform kidnapped the victim and took him to an unknown destination after injuring his vigilante guard with a gunshot.

    Ado further disclosed recovery of 10 motorcycles from a gang of armed robbers specializing in theft of motorcycles in Ilorin.

    The Kwara state police command on Friday paraded a gang of kidnapers and cattle rustlers in Ilorin, the state capital.

    The Abia State Commissioner of Police (CP) Michael Ogbizi has paraded three gangs of suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and child traffickers said to have been terrorising the state for a long time.

    Speaking while parading the suspects in Umuahia, the state capital, Ogbizi said that one of the gangs allegedly led by Stanley Ifeanyi was arrested in Aba, the state’s commercial hub, with police uniforms, police bulletproof vest, AK 47 rifle, one single-barrel gun, and one locally made pistol, among others.

    Ogbizi said that the gang has been terrorising the people of Aba for a long time and that the police had been on their trail.

    He said that the command is out to arrest people of such character and make the state free for people to come in and invest, assuring the residents of their security and safety of their property at all times.

    When The Nation questioned Ifeanyi, he said that he bought the police materials from one police man at Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, at the cost N20,000.

    “I have never robbed with police uniform before but I bought them to use them to rob,” Ifeanyi said.

    The next gang the CP paraded was said to be the which waylaid the family of Mr James Kwubiri Okpara, the state commissioner for Housing while on their way back from a trip abroad.

    Ogbizi said that the robbers robbed them of all their valuables, “Since the incident we have been after them as we are determined to ensure that armed robbery and such incidents are completely reduced to the barest minimum in the state”.

    He said that the three-man gang waylaid the commissioner’s family and had been terrorising the people of Abayi and Osisioma areas of Aba.

    “With the arrest of this notorious gang of armed robbers, the residents of these areas can now sleep with their two eyes closed,”Ogbizi said.

    The Abia police boss also paraded a notorious child trafficker known simply as Nma, who has been under police surveillance for years now, saying that when the police raided her place that 13 underage pregnant girls were rescued.

    Ogbizi said that the girls were in various stages of pregnancy and were malnourished, stressing that since their rescue the state government in conjunction with the police have been taking care of their feeding and medical bills.

    He said that Nma would be charged for murder, child trafficking and kidnapping, “She may have been evading arrest and prosecution for a long time but this time it will no longer be business as usual as she will be made to face the full wrath of the law”.

    In her reaction, Nma said that she has been running a maternity home at her Isiala Ngwa North council area for the past seven years and denied selling children born in her maternity.

    Nma said that she is a registered nurse and those girls are always brought to her place by those who want to help them, “Whenever they come I always ask them to bring their guardians before they are taken in”.

    The CP also recovered a Volkswagen Golf car with the registration number AQ 26-UMA which was snatched from its owner among other items such as Plasma TV and others.

    IGP’s squad arrests six suspected kidnappers

    Operatives of the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have arrested six deadly kidnappers responsible for the abduction of Chief Nemi Adoki, 61, the Chief Executive Officer of Menakeb Limited on December 15, 2017 and the killing of one Maikano Abdullahi, a resident of Number 129 Victoria Street, Port Harcourt.

    Two pump action guns were recovered from the suspects.

    Chief Adoki was released from the creeks of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State on January 4, 2018 after a sum of N9 million was paid as ransom.

    The suspects were picked up between January 15 and February 5, 2018 at different locations in locations in Rivers and Bayelsa States.

    It was learnt that the gang leader, Justice Timothy, 22, was responsible for the death of Mikano Abudullahi.

    He was in charge of negotiations and his share from the ransom was N1.8million while Akpos Livinus,  33, coordinated the gang’s operations  and arranged weapons used for the operation as well as the location of the stronghold in the creeks. His share was N1.2milion.

    Daniel Allen, 27, who participated in the kidnap, also negotiated for ransom and pocketed a sum of N1million from the ransom, while Kelvin Alpheus,  30, who was tasked with cooking and running errands for the gang and hostages took  N400,000 as his share of the ransom.

    Others include the driver of the gang’s operational vehicle, David Abak, 29, who collected  a sum of N 800, 000 from the ransom paid.

    An ex-driver of the victim, Tekena Silva, 26, who connived with the gang, got a sum of one million naira from the loot.

    It was learnt that efforts are ongoing towards apprehending a fleeing member

    Police nab suspected kidnappers, ritualists

    Four suspected ritualists, who were arrested with a human head and hands, were among those paraded yesterday by the Oyo State Police Command, Ibadan.

    Two of the suspects, Olapade Saheed, 32 and Olatunji Abiodun, 26, were said to have been nabbed with the exhibits at Ayegun by vigilance group members.

    The human parts were reportedly cut from a body buried four days earlier.

    A Muslim cleric, Hammed Sulaiman, 35, who participated in the Fidaus of the deceased whose body was cut, was paraded with the pastor of Light of God C&S Church, Ojagbo, Oranyan, Ibadan.

    Sulaiman, who said he requested human parts, which he needed for money rituals, took Saheed and Abiodun to the grave of the deceased. The pastor was said to have taken custody of the human parts before the act was exposed.

    Sulaiman said he only needed a handful of human parts to mix with concoctions to prepare a money-vomiting juju and he asked his friend to help him get the parts.

    He said he gave the people who cut the human parts N2,500.

    Eighteen suspected criminals were paraded by Police Commissioner Abiodun Odude.

    They included a notorious kidnap kingpin, Bolaji Shittu, 40, who had been on the command wanted list and members of a robbery gang, who specialised in snatching motorcycles at gunpoint in Ibadan.

    A notorious cult leader, Alaba Ojo, popularly called Ojoweliweli, 28, who led members of his gang to cause mayhem during a carnival in 2016 was also paraded.

    Suspected fraudsters, namely Ahmed Olagbami, 52, Lanre Adams, 53, Akin Olorode, 52 and Hammad Abass, 40, who specialised in obtaining goods from people through fake bank alert, were arrested by the police.

    Another suspect, Tayo Ogunleye, 39, who impersonated the marketing manager of a popular store to deceive his victims and offer them phoney jobs, was paraded.

    Odude said the command rescued a 39-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son, who were kidnapped at their home in Soka, Ibadan two weeks ago.

    The victims, Ganiyat Yisau and Feranmi Adaramaja, who spent eight days at the kidnapers’ den at Ayegun, were reportedly tortured by their abductors.

    Between 15th of January, 2018 and 5th February 2018, the operatives of the IGP- Intelligence Response Team IRT deployed to PH by IGP Idris Ibrahim during unrelenting follow up, arrested Six members of the Kidnapping gang from different locations In Rivers and Bayelsa states.

    Suspects arrested and roles played are:
