  • We’ve evidence of Kuku’s Amnesty FYD loan – Nwuche

The Foundation for Youth Development (FYD), on Monday said that it has full evidence of the former Special Adviser, Kingsley Kuku’s Amnesty, Office loan from the Foundation.

On Monday Kuku through his attorney as reported by some national dailies denied receiving any loan from FYD as claimed by its Chairman, Hon. Chibudom Nwuche.

A statement by the Media Adviser to FYD, Ike Anyaduba, in Abuja said that the Foundation has “read with amusement the denial from Kingsley Kuku that he never requested and collected loans of N2.8bn from FYD to purportedly pay stipends to ex-militants and stakeholders during his tenure as Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs.

It noted that “with the plethora of proof of these requests and payments it is hard to attempt to deny so blatantly and rather accuse FYD Chairman Hon. Chibudom Nwuche of owing the Amnesty Programme the said sums.

It said that FYD has sued for the full recovery of these moneys from Kuku, as “it later learned that he may have indeed diverted the loans to personal use and escaped the country without proper handover of these and other liabilities he may have incurred whilst serving as SA.”

It also said that several other contractors, “as we now realize, were allegedly duped in similar fashion but are too afraid to come out to the open.”

It said that prior to “these last contracts, FYD had successfully executed several projects for the Amnesty programme without a hitch.”

The statement added, “We have our Chairman’s full support to prosecute this matter to its logical conclusion as he has nothing to hide, and to fully support the anti-corruption war of the Federal Government and expose persons who use their official positions to defraud innocent contractors and service providers, believing there will be no evidence against them.

Hon. Nwuche has had a distinguished and unblemished career in both the public and private sectors.

“Why would an organization he chairs lie against Kingsley Kuku and the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme?

“It is now obvious that FYD made a grave mistake in trusting and believing that Kuku was as committed, as we were, to resolving the Niger Delta crisis and assisting in whatever way possible to stabilize the region, hence our granting the loans.

“We challenge Kuku to return to Nigeria to answer to the various cases of fraud and embezzlement currently hanging on his neck. FYD would not have bothered to respond to the ranting of a fugitive but we need to put the records straight for the benefit of the public.”

  • Associates puncture rumour of Kingsley Kuku’s relocation

The story making the rounds in the rumour mill is that former Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Kingsley Kuku, has fled the country in his desperate bid to escape prosecution over corruption allegations levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Kuku allegedly fled the country after it was announced that he was wanted by the EFCC for alleged embezzlement of funds running into millions of dollars.

There have been speculations that contrary to Kuku’s claims that he travelled to the United States (US) to undergo a knee surgery, he actually fled the country and the long arms of the law, using ill-health as a pretext. It is also rumoured that Kuku’s sudden relocation from US to Ghana was not based on his desire to tour the world but because the US security agencies were collaborating with the Nigerian government to deport him in order to make him face the corruption charges levelled against him by the Nigerian government.

However, sources close to Kuku have dismissed the allegations as a figment of the imagination of rumour mongers. According to them, Kuku cannot be in Ghana while he is still recuperating. According to them, since Kuku completed his knee surgery successfully, he has been taking things easy as he recuperates in the US. Rumour mongers are having none of that as they insist that Kuku, who recently declared his intention to run for the Ondo State governorship seat, has relocated to Ghana with his wife and children and has abandoned his gubernatorial dreams.

  • Judge’s absence stalls arraignment Jonathan’s aide, two others

The planned arraignment of former Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku and two of his associates was stalled Tuesday morning by the absence of the proposed trial judge, Justice M. M. Kolo of the High Court, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.
Kuku ( who is said to be at large) was to be arraigned in absentia with Lawrence Pepple (who served as Technical Assistant to Kuku on Reintegration) and Henry Nonso Ogbolue (who served Kuku as Special Assistant, Media and Communications) on two separate charges.
They are charge with criminal conspiracy, fraudulent acquisition and false declaration of assets.
A new date has been fixed for their arraignment.

    Kingsley Kuku loses supporters

The camp of former Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Kingsley Kuku, is getting increasingly depleted as the governorship election in Ondo State moves closer. From the fierce lion that drove fear into the minds of his foes, Kuku has become the butt of cruel jokes among jesters who now put him up as a study in cowardice.

Since he fled the country over threats of his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, most of his supporters have crossed to other camps. Kuku is yet to honour EFCC’s invitation since July last year, citing a knee injury for which he was receiving treatment at St Andrew’s Hospital, Alabama in the US as his reason for not honouring the invitation of the anti-graft agency.

  • What’s up with Kingsley Kuku’s guber ambition?

Few months ago, the name of Kingsley Kuku elicited respect and admiration on the Nigeria socio-political scene. Not only was he one of the top shot politicians in the country, he occupied a lofty position as the Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs and Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

However, it is undisputable that the country is in an era of change and it seems Kuku’s political career got the memo. As the 2016 gubernatorial election in Ondo State hots up, nothing much has been heard on the much-talked about ambition of Kingsley Kuku.

He has gone underground since Jonathan left office, perhaps still mourning the loss of his party, PDP. While some people claimed the fear of the EFCC is the beginning of wisdom for the very rich dude, others insisted he’s still recuperating in America from a leg injury. Although no one knows the reason for Kuku’s sudden disappearance from the limelight, many have been wondering what will become of his political career and if it will ever be rejuvenated.

  • Jonathan’s ex-aide Kuku loses bid to stop arrest

Jonathan’s ex-aide Kuku loses bid to stop arrest

The Federal High Court in Lagos Wednesday dismissed an application by a Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku, from arresting him.

Kuku had urged the court to restrain anti-corruption agencies from arresting and prosecuting him over allegations of corruption.

But, Justice Okon Abang held that the application lacked merit.

“This application lacks merit and is hereby dismissed. I so hold,” said the judge.

Justice Abang refused Kuku’s prayer to stop the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) from arresting and probing him.

The judge, however, said should Kuku be arrested, he should not be detained beyond 48 hours.

Justice Abang said detaining Kuku beyond 48 hours would be in contravention of Section 35(4)(5) of the 1999 Constitution.

According to the judge, ‎EFCC has a statutory obligation to investigate Kuku over alleged financial impropriety.

The court also held that the anti-graft agency has the right to arrest Kuku if he refuses to honour invitation.

The judge disagreed with the submission that any move to invite Kuku was politically motivated.

After assuming jurisdiction in the case, Justice Abang held: ‎”It is in my humble view that the invitation sent to the applicant is lawful and constitutional.

“The court cannot stop a statutory institution from performing it constitutional duty.”

The court, however, restrained the respondents from arresting the applicant unlawfully, noting that his arrest must follow due process.

Kuku sued the Attorney-General of the Federation, EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the DSS and the Nigerian Immigration Service.

He alleged there was “a plot by the respondents to concoct, fabricate or falsify evidence in order to provide a basis for the arrest, detention, persecution and/or prosecution of the applicant (Kuku) for political reasons…”

According to him, it was “in furtherance of the unconscionable use of the otherwise laudable war against corruption to repress the political opposition constituted by the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the applicant.”

Kuku sought a declaration that any such invitation, arrest, harassment or prosecution on the basis of allegations of corruption in respect of his tenure as Chairman of the Amnesty Programme between 2011 and 2015 is a breach of his right to fair hearing and freedom of movement.

Similarly, he sought an order prohibiting the respondents from arresting or prosecuting him on the basis of the allegations.

The Auditor-General of the Federation had raised questions over alleged mismanagement of funds in reports of audit monitoring and evaluation of the amnesty programme.

Kuku’s lawyer Mr Ajibola Oluyede said the respondents were about to abuse the criminal process by seeking to arrest his client.

“There is an illegal and unjustifiable intigation of the criminal process against the applicant in a manner that infringes upon his fundamental rights enshrined in Chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution,” he said.

But the AGF’s and IGP’s counsel, Mr Tijani Gazali, urged the court to dismiss Kuku’s application.

He said Kuku was only invited to clear allegations of corruption against him, adding that there was no plot to violate his rights.

“We only invited him to ensure his right to fair hearing. It was only an invitation. Instead, he has run to the court to be conferred with immunity so as not to be investigated. He was invited so as to tell his own side of the story,” Gazali said.

  • Endless wait for Kingsley Kuku

    Endless wait for Kingsley Kuku

The purported cowardice of former Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Kingsley Kuku, is fast becoming an object of cruel joke among Nigerian comedians. He is no longer portrayed as the fierce lion who once spurred fear in the hearts of his foes.

Kuku is said to be scared still by the invitation he has received from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations that border on fraud. He had earlier failed to appear before the commission on July 28, a few weeks after the anti-graft agency invited him for interrogation, citing a knee injury over which he was receiving treatment at St. Andrew’s Hospital, Alabama in the United States of America (US) as reason for not honouring the invitation from the anti-graft agency.

He had denied claims that he was a fugitive, saying that as a patriotic Nigerian, he would return home to clear his name. But rather than return to the country to honour EFCC’s invitation, Kuku posted a photograph on the social media with his knee in bandage.

In a statement he issued earlier, Kuku insists that he is not only a patriotic Nigerian, he has a future and image to protect, and in the light of this, his integrity is more important to him than the vanity of this world. He also insists that he does not have any foreign account or house anywhere outside the shores of Nigeria.

EFCC invites ex-amnesty boss, Kingsley Kuku

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission yesterday invited the immediate past Special Adviser on Amnesty Programme, Dr. Kingsley Kuku, for interrogation on the finances of the agency.

Kuku, who resigned a few weeks ago, is expected to report to the EFCC on July 28 to respond to allegations bordering on embezzlement and fraudulent diversion of funds running into hundreds of millions of naira.

A top source in the EFCC said: “We have invited Kuku for interaction with our team of investigators looking into issues on the management of the Amnesty Programme.

“We have isolated the allegations but when he comes around, we will have the full picture of what transpired.

“The truth is that the Amnesty Programme had some challenges even before Kuku left the system.”

Some of the allegations against Kuku are as follows:

    • Inclusion of many undeserving people on the beneficiary list of the Amnesty Programme
    • Circumstances surrounding how 2000 Amnesty Programme beneficiaries became stranded abroad
    • Over-bloated training contracts without adding value to the Amnesty Programme
    • Huge bills on all-expense international and local trips in private jets
    • Operation of an expensive office in the United Kingdom

Responding to a question, the top EFCC source added: “Kuku is also aware that since 2013, a group, Niger Delta Awareness Coalition & Ex Militants Leaders Forum had joined issues with him on the management of the Amnesty Programme.

“In one of the issues raised before ex-President Jonathan, the group alleged mismanagement of billions of naira of earmarked for the development of the Niger Delta.

“They also alleged that Niger Delta youths were shipped away to unaccredited training and educational institutions across most of the Third World.”

The source added: “Our job as an anti-graft agency is to look into some of these allegations and find out the veracity or otherwise.

“By inviting Kuku, it does not mean he is guilty of the allegations against him. If there is nothing against Kuku, he will be given a clean bill of health. If otherwise, he will face trial.”

    Kingsley Kuku eyes Mimiko’s seat?

FORMER Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, is at the centre of a rumour that has shaken politics in Ondo State to its foundation.

The erstwhile Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme is said to have joined the governorship race in the state. And towards realising his dream, his loyalists have embarked on a quiet but rigorous campaign in the nooks and crannies of Ondo State.

He and his promoters are however said to have been discreet about the project for fear of possible backlash if the power brokers in Ondo politics are not favourably disposed to his ambition.
