Rivers kinsmen write Tinubu over Fubara’s CoS Ehie, others

The people of Ekpeye in Rivers State have defended their kinsman, Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara; and five others, against the allegations brought against him by the police.

Despite conflicting court orders, the police had declared Ehie wanted after accusing him of masterminding the bombing of the hallowed chambers of the House of Assembly and linking him to the brutal murder of the Ahoada Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP. Bako Angbasim.

The kinsmen in open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu raised the alarm that there was an effort to kill their sons and Ehie, using the instruments of government and called for the President’s intervention.

Reeling out the antecedent of Ehie, his kinsmen said the Chief of Staff was first elected into the House of Assembly in 2015, re-elected in 2019, emerged as the Deputy Speaker and in 2023, re-elected and became the Leader of the House.

The kinsmen said Ehie played great roles in the election and re-election of Chief Nyesom Wike as the governor of Rivers and that Wike gave him an award of excellence as the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS), because of his integrity.

They recalled that Wike was so pleased with Ehie that during the kick-off of the Ozochi Road project, he declared to the entire world that he would hand over power to youths like Ehie.

“Our son, Ehie, has no criminal records of murder, terrorism, attempted murder, conspiracy and arson,” they said.

The kinsmen alleged that Ehie only became a villain for disagreeing with Wike on the impeachment of Governor Fubara.

They said: “This disagreement marked the beginning of the travails of Ehie. Ehie did not commit any crime or persons arrested, charged and remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja; not even the persons declared wanted by the police with him against a subsisting court order.”

The kinsmen insisted that Ehie, who represented Ahoada East Constituency 2, could not be held responsible for the murder of the DPO, which occurred at Ahoada Constituency 1.

They alleged: “The murder of the DPO was carried out by a group, Icelander Cult, but the police authority is yet to arrest his killers. Several arrests have been made and the police have concluded their investigations and submitted their report.

“Seventy-five people are facing prosecution. It is worthy of note that in the final police report and the charge sheet before the court, Ehie and the persons declared wanted with him were not mentioned in any way.

“Thus, to link Ehie to the murder is a misjudgment; it amounts to trivialising the death of a brilliant police officer that has given all his best to the society.”

The kinsmen urged President Tinubu to prevail on Wike and the Inspector-General of Police to drop “all the trump up charges” against Ehie, describing the matter as a pure case of victimisation and oppression.

The Ekpeye people thanked President Tinubu for his fatherly intervention in the crisis.

hat engulfed the state and lauded Governor Fubara for obeying the President by implementing the Peace Accord.

Addressing the President, they said: “We are confident that as someone who has suffered prosecution for standing up for democracy, you are in a position to appreciate more adequately what our sons are going through.

“Ehie, Chime Ezebalike, Izu Kpasa, Happy Bennett, Adokiye Oyagiri and Progress Joseph are innocent of the crimes they are being accused of. Holding political views not similar to those in power should not be a crime.”

Over 33 leaders of Ekpeye Kingdom comprising former lawmakers, representatives of many communities, various groups, community leaders and traditional rulers signed the letter.

  • KINSMEN AT WAR: HOW CHIEFTAINCY, LAND TUSSLES TORE BENUE COMMUNITY APART

After surviving series of mindless attacks in the hands of murderous herdsmen, the relative peace enjoyed in Aila, one of the communities making up Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, appears to have been shattered. The kinsmen, who earlier worked together to defend the community against external aggression, recently engaged in a bloody communal clash which led to the brutal killing of many residents and vandalisation of over 100 houses. Many families have consequently scattered with many parents not knowing the children’s whereabouts. INNOCENT DURU reports.

After fighting hard together with his kinsmen to bring about lasting peace in Aila, one of the Agatu Local Government Areas ravaged by killer herdsmen’s attacks,  87-year -old Pa Adamu Olotu, had one wish for his agrarian community and that was never to see the community attacked and the blood of his people spilled again.

Beyond wishing for a lasting peace in his community, the octogenarian made deliberate and frantic efforts to ward off any further bloody attacks against Aila.

Unfortunately for the ex-military man, the wish soon vanished a like vapour as the community once again witnessed another round of killings and wanton destruction of houses and other valuables by its own people. The recent communal clash which has left the community desolate, was said to have been triggered by chieftaincy and land tussles between opposing clans making up the community.

“We were at home when the disgruntled clans invaded our homes with guns and other dangerous weapons. They struck around 5pm and threw the entire area into confusion as they started shooting and burning houses. I was sleeping when I heard the gunshots. I am a retired military officer and it was my military experience that helped me to survive the onslaught.

“The attackers killed my younger brother, Bakwo, in the process and also killed one of his sons, Jumo. They burnt my house and everything in it. As I am talking with you now, I don’t have anything again, not even a shirt. The one I am wearing now was given to me by a friend.”

Regretting that his desire for his community to enjoy lasting peace has been shattered, Olotu said:  “After narrowly surviving the herdsmen’s menace and trying to start life afresh, it is unfortunate that our own people chose to return the community to the days of mindless killings. My wish that the lives of our people would not be wasted on the altar of needless clashes has gone with the wind.

“I am completely helpless as I am talking with you now. I only look forward to God for assistance.  The government has not intervened because they believe it is a communal clash.”

Much as he loved to live and possibly die in his hometown, the old man who is taking refuge in Odugbehan, a neighbouring community that is about 10 kilometeres away from Aila, was not elated when asked by this reporter if he would want to go back home soon.  “There is no hope of when to go back home for now. We can’ t just contemplate going back home because the people that attacked us are still much around in our area.  They are armed to the teeth and would not hesitate to murder anyone that crosses their path.

“The annoying thing is that a member of that clan that is attacking us is a public office holder. When the crisis started, he came and told us not  run to away but we didn’t know it was a ploy to facilitate our extermination.  We want the government to do something drastic about this to prevent further spilling our people’s blood. Enough is enough. We have never enjoyed quality period of peace all along.  It has been crisis, from herdsmen’s attacks to attacks by members of our community.  Enough of this,” he said.

Another member of the community, who gave his name as  Seidu Adamu, was enveloped by emotion as he also narrated how his cousin was brutally murdered during the attack. “They burn my house and killed my cousin, called Ngbede.  We were both running away from the assailants but he wasn’t as lucky as I was.  They caught up with him and murdered him in his cold blood.

“My family is scattered now.  I have lost my means of livelihood and don’t know how to survive.  I have resorted to begging for food because there is no alternative for now. Our children have not been going to school. How can they go to school when we are talking about how to survive hunger and the unfortunate situation we have found ourselves?”

Seidu called on the government to make sure that justice is done to assuage the pains of victims of the communal clash.

A female, Rukiya Adamu, did not lose any of her relations in the attack but she is in deep sorrow as she still does not know the whereabouts of two of her children. The development, she said, causes her heartache because she is always thinking about them.  “I still don’t know the whereabouts of two of my children. We all ran in different directions when the attackers came.

“How do I explain the disappearance of two children? I want my children back. I always imagine them calling and wondering why I am not responding to their calls. Their unknown whereabouts causes me heartache every minute because I am always pondering on where they could be and what they could be going through at the moment. The assailants have caused me untold sorrow. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the government to help me find my children.”

The embattled mother added: “The attackers also burnt our house and all our belongings.  We have no roof to lay our heads if eventually we are asked to go back home today. Unfortunately for us, we can’t go back home because our land is a no go area for now. The killers are still there waiting for us to come back so that they can behead us.”

The wobbly sprinting from Aila to Agatu would remain indelible in the mind of Aishatu Megida. For a very long time, she had not had any reason to run over a long distance. But when the assailants stormed her area that fateful day, Aishatu said she didn’t know where the energy came from to do the 10-kilometer race to Odugbehan.

Her words: “I can’t count the number of times I fell down running from Aila to Odugbehan, which is about 10 kilometres. My body is full of injuries as a result of falling down at different times. Once I fell down, I would quickly stand up and continue running to avoid being caught and murdered by the blood-thirsty people who never care if their victims are children, women, elderly able of disabled.”

30-year-old Salatu Haruna expressed sadness for the return of mindless killing to the community.  Sharing her experience, he said: “I was at home when they stormed the community and started shooting. I couldn’t wait to get my wife and children to escape with me.  Each one of us fled the community without informing the other. We didn’t anticipate the attack at all.

“Most of us are yet to overcome the shock we suffered after the attack. We have lost the little we have been able to put together after the herdsmen attack. I feel so sad that this happening at a time we are hoping and praying that the days of bloodletting should not return to Agatu Local Government again.”

Apart from adults, some children also relived their narrow escape from the bloody-thirsty invaders. A seven-year- old girl, who gave her name simply as  Patience, said: “ I ran into the bush when I heard gunshots. It didn’t even occur to me to look for my parents when the agents of death came knocking at our door.  It was a terrible experience because I had to be waddling through the thick bush. Thorns were piercing my body but I just couldn’t stop because it was better for thorns to pierce me than for bullets to hit me.

“My pain is that we would not be able to write examinations for the term that is about ending. Our exams were to start at the beginning of the week but we can’t take part in it.”

It was also a tale of woe for eight-year-old Bartholomew who said he still hears the sounds of gunshots and always is traumatised by them.   “When I heard the gunshots, I only saw my peers running and had to join them. We ran into the bush and kept running until we got to Odugbehan. I still feel like I am hearing sounds of gunshots. They traumatise me and I am scared of going back home. I feel the disturbing experience would continue to traumatise me.”

Giving a hint about the cause of the clash, a survivor, Bala Haruna, said: “The problem was caused by chieftaincy and land matters. We had no weapon to fight back or repel them when they came. All we could do was to flee our fatherland to avoid being killed. We are poor farmers who do not have the means to purchase weapons. All we can do is appeal to the government to intervene so that the challenge of insecurity in our community would come to an end.

“If the government does not intervene, they would continue to kill us. As we speak now, the academic life of our children has been badly affected because they can’t go to school not to talk of joining their peers to write promotion exams.”

But a  leader of one of the clans, who did not want his name in print in a telephone interview with The Nation, said the clash was caused solely by chieftaincy tussle.

“It has been only one community that had been ruling. After sometime, the government came up with a law that established district heads that should rotate among the different communities making up Aila.  But the clan that caused this recent problem refused to accept that principle of rotation and that has been the major contention up till now. We have about eight communities here. Seven agreed that the leadership of the community should be rotated but the eighth community refused.

“On one occasion, there was a burial ceremony here in Aila; the disgruntled clan invaded the burial venue and killed some people.  The community consequently destroyed their houses and sent them out of the land.”

He added: “That was the situation until they, accompanied by other people from outside this area, invaded our town, Aila. The houses burnt were more than 100, while the number of people killed was eight. I am not aware of 10 people. The land problem is not in our area. It is an issue between two other towns.

“Somebody was arrested in connection with this attack but he  has since been released. There is absolutely no peace as I speak with you. The invaders are still moving about with arms. Our children can’t go to school again. One of the secondary schools was also vandalised.”

Contacted, the Benue State  Police Public Relations Officer, Kate Anene, said the command wasn’t aware that the disagreement  in the area had become a full-blown crisis.

“What you are saying now was not reported to me as a crisis initially. What happened was that they went for a burial and they had a disagreement. They said the disagreement was because people who were not supposed to attend the burial attended it.  So, if it had resulted in such a crisis that has led to the people running away, I am just hearing it from you”.

The PPRO also denied knowing that people were killed and houses burnt in Aila.

“I am not aware of it.  The DPO sent me a situation report yesterday but he didn’t include that some people were killed. Haha! Hum! I will call him and find out. If that is true why should he not report it?  I will find out.”

  • APC chairmanship race: Kinsmen disown Osunbor

KINSMEN of Prof.  Oserheimen Osunbor in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State have thrown their weight behind the aspiration of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole for the All Progressive Congress’ national chairmanship position.

Osunbor, who is also a former Edo State governor, is one of the persons that have purchased the forms in a bid to replace Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

His kinsmen said they didn’t asked him to contest the APC National chairmanship against Oshiomhole.

They said Osunbor has not informed them about his aspiration.

Chairman of Esan West Local Government Area Patrick Aguinede, who spoke to reporters after an enlarged meeting of the APC in the locality, said they have resolved to vote for Oshiomhole.

According to him,  “We have spoken with one voice. All delegates in Esan West have endorsed Oshiomhole.

“Prof.  Osunbor is our son.  We have asked him to come back home. We didn’t send him to go and contest.

“The person we know that can move the party forward is Oshiomhole. Osunbor did not come home to inform us that he is contesting for the position.”

  • Cleric establishes hospital for kinsmen

Ise-Ekiti, the headquarters of Ise/Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, erupted in joy last weekend when a clergyman, Prophet Joseph Ologbonyo, inaugurated an ultramodern hospital for the benefit of his kinsmen.

Ologbonyo, is the Senior Pastor of Christ Apostolic Church, the Church of Boanerges Mercyland, said he carried out the project to give back to his community and provide healthcare delivery.

The hospital, which will provide direct employment for 15 people in the town, was established by the cleric to provide healthcare delivery to patients who can’t afford high medical bills in government and private hospitals.

Some guests who witnessed the inauguration include an illustrious indigene of the town and former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye; Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye and popular gospel musician, Pastor Joseph Adelakun popularly known as “Ayewa.”

Speaking about the inspiration behind the hospital, Ologbonyo said the church must be an agent of social change and contribute to the welfare of the people.

He explained that the church was in the forefront of social

development in providing education, health and other social services through the missionaries.

Ologbonyo said: “It is a continuation of what the missionaries brought to Nigeria. The missionaries brought education, agriculture and healthcare since 1842 in to this country.

“Many of our leaders today benefitted from that legacy. They went to missionary schools and didn’t pay a dime. Some of them were even sent abroad for further studies.

“Unfortunately most of these benefits are no longer with the church today. I reasoned that all that we need in our society cannot be provided by the government alone.

“That is why I put this edifice in this local environment to assist my people. We individuals and organisations should also take part and contribute own quota to complement what government is doing.”

  • Kinsmen endorse Ikpeazu for second term

Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has been endorsed for a second term by nine of the 17 local government chapters of the Peopl3s Democratic Party (PDP). EMMANUEL OLADESU examines the hurdles he must cross to win next year’s poll.

Three  years ago, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, former university don and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain,  was endorsed for governor of Abia State by the people of Ukwa/Ngwa.

Last week, the zone endorsed the governor for a second term. Was the endorsement based on ethnic affiliation? Prominent leaders ot the zone said the state deserved a government of continuity, adding that Ikpeazu has lived up to expectation.

However, some leaders of the opposition parties have disagreed with the endorsement. In their view, the governor could have done better.

Ukwa/Ngwa spread across nine of 17 local governments in Abia. The councils are Aba North, Aba South, Isialangwa North, Isialangwa South, Osisioma, Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa West and Ukwa East.

The endorsement ceremony in Okpuala Ngwa, the ancestral headquarters of Ngwa, was reminiscent of the 2014 endorsement when former  Senate President Adolph Wabara and  Elder Emma Adaelu  led what they described as a “one million”man match to the Government House, Umuahia, and presented Ikpeazu to former Governor Theodore Orji as the sole candidate, despite the fact that the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Anyim Nyerere, hails from Ngwa.

Wabara, who moved the motion for Ikpeazu’s endorsement, said: “Our son and our brother, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, is a silent achiever and performer. He has performed creditably and that confers on him the right to lead once more. Our people today speak with one voice to make a proclamation in support of the governor, asking him to contest again in 2019.”

The motion was seconded by  Chief  Chukwu Wachukwu, former Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE). He said: “Abia North was governor for eight years with Orji Uzo Kalu; Abia Central governed for eight years with Senator Theodore Orji. Abia South is completing four years with Governor Ikpeazu. Therefore, as a people, we unanimously, through a voice vote, declare our support for the re-election of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu  in 2019, because he has done well and also because he must complete the eight year tenure of Abia South people.”

Adaelu explained that the governor has the constitutional right to seek re-election. He added: “We have seen governors in Abia State and I will boldly state that there has not been any like Ikpeazu.”

Former governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Reagan Ufomba, said Ikpeazu has spread the dividends of democracy to the three senatorial districts.

“In the spirit of equity, inclusiveness, fairness and justice, re-electing Ikpeazu in 2019 is task for all Abians, from Ukwa through Umuahia to Arochukwu, because he has done well, and there is no alternative than to allow him to continue with his good work till 2023.”

However,  Ufomba urged the governor to sustain the tempo of  achievements.”We also call on our Old Bende brothers to demonstrate love and oneness, as we have always done to them in the past, by ensuring that the Ukwa-Ngwa people enjoy two terms as exercised by other zones in the state.” he added.

The monarchs, led by Eze Bernard Enweremadu of Ngwa Ukwu, said Ikpezu had their support. He said: “If it is not just, if it is not fair. It is equitable for an Ngwa man to govern Abia eight years, as others did. As it was in 2015, so shall it be in 2019, ” Eze Enweremadu added.

An excited Ikpeazu described the endorsement as a show of love and demonstration of the  unflinching support of Ukwa/Ngwa people for him.

He urged the people get their Permanent Voters Cards, as a sign of seriousness, if they want him to re-contest in 2019.

The governor said the endorsement underscored the resolve and unity of the nine local governments.

Ikpeazu said: “ You shouldn’t  be here asking me to contest again in 2019, if you don’t have your voters card.”

The governor assured the people that he will continue to fulfil his campaign promises, based on his five-point agenda.

Ikpeazu’s media aide, Enyinnaya Appolos, said the opposition is frustrated and disappointed by the governor’s achievements.  Reacting to the allegation that most of the projects executed by Ikpeazu are either undertaken by the Niger Delta Development Commission, or the Federal Government, Appolos chided the critics for falsehood. He  listed the 38  road projects completed  by the governor, which he said, are verifiable.  and called on Media Practitioners in the country to visit and verify all of them.

Appolos told reporters in Umuahia, the state capital, that Ikpeazu will not derail, adding that the quality of performance was in appreciation of the mandate of 2015.

The Chief Press Secretary  said:  “Governor Ikpeazu promised a new Abia with world class infrastructure, improved environment for business and Small and Medium Enterprises.

“Two years down the line, there comes a need to do an assessment of what has been done. That was the reason for the tour embarked upon by the governor, media practitioners, members of the PDP National Working Committee and stakeholders in the state recently.”

Apollus recalled that while disgrunted opposition leaders planned to distract the governor through litigations, he has decided to remain focussed.

He said the road project in Eketa community in Isiala, Ngwa South Local Government Area, was neither   embarked upon by the NDDC nor   attracted by Dr. Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance. He said it is part of the 10 kilometre road per local government promised by the governor.

On whether or not the governor should re-contest for the 2019 elections, Apollos said: “Constitutionally, the governor has the right to seek re-election in 2019. Abians too want him to contest. Various groups and even individuals are saying you have done well; we want you to contest in 2019. But, he has not said so”.

“As Enyinnaya Appolos from Isiko and Abia, having seen what Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has done, I will want him to contest in 2019. Knowing where Abia used to be before 2015 and what Abia is at the moment, I can only imagine what Abia will look like by 2023.”

  • Tension in Calabar as gunmen abduct five kinsmen in two weeks

THERE is palpable fear within the Igbo community in Cross River State as no fewer than five of their kinsmen have been abducted in the past two weeks in Calabar, the state capital. It was gathered that one Ifeanyi and Lazarus, both spare parts dealers, were kidnapped two weeks ago, while an electrical parts dealer and contractor popularly known as ‘But Why’ was abducted on Monday. The victims were said to have been kidnapped at their shops at Victor Akan Street, Calabar South. Sources said they regained freedom after paying ransom running into millions of naira.

The latest kidnapping of a popular spare parts dealer, Mr Paulinus Obi, popularly known as Matata, and Emmanuel Ozokwu a contractor has sent a wave of panic across the Igbo community in Calabar. Obi was reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday at Bedwell Street, while Ozokwu was whisked away on Thursday at Target Street all in Calabar South. An eyewitness said Obi was kidnapped about 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 7, in front of his shop. Narrating the incident, the eyewitness said: “We were sitting out in front of Matata shop about 7:00pm having a drink when two young men wearing black clothe all through walked up to Matata and excused him.

“As soon as he stood up another stern looking masked man came out from a parked old blue Audi 80 with AK 47 riffle and jerked Matata up and threw him into the car. Immediately the Audi 80 drove off with the three other persons, another Camry car parked around Bedwell by White House Street followed them and they zoomed off to unknown destination. “Since then they have not called, neither have they sent any message as to the next thing we can do. Honestly, this is one kidnap too many and the traders would not take this matter lying low any longer.” Reacting to the development, the president of Igbo community, Calabar, Chief Albert Enya, described the incident as very unfortunate and called on security operatives to step up efforts to check the menace.

  • Kinsmen kick as anti-Boroh’s protest rocks Bayelsa

Kinsmen kick as anti-Boroh’s protest rocks Bayelsa

Some youths from Bayelsa State, yesterday, blocked major roads in Kolokuma-Opokuma and Yenagoa areas seeking the removal of the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (retd).

The protesters disrupted commercial activities and free-flow of traffic.

But the kinsmen of Gen. Boroh warned the protesters to leave their brother alone lamenting that attacks on Boroh were being coordinated and sponsored by some corrupt politicians.

The beneficiaries of the amnesty programme, who dominated the demonstration under the auspices of the Niger Delta for Accountability and Good Governance (NDAGG), appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the amnesty coordinator.

Some of the placards bore inscriptions such as, “Buhari sack Boroh now!”, “Corruption: Boroh Must Go!” and “EFCC submit your report on Boroh”.

Speaking during the protest, some of the ex-militants such as Samuel Sogulu, Commander Rollins Ezetu, Commander Ebillo, Mr.Timi  Amgalabiri and Opukeme Orubo, insisted that the programme under Gen. Boroh have become an avenue for political aides and amnesty staff to amass wealth at the expense of peace in the region.

But the kinsmen of Boroh under the aegis of Development and Justice Forum (DJF) condemned the protest, saying they were sponsored by failed politicians with the selfish motive of hijacking the amnest programme.

The Coordinator of DJF, Mr. Christopher Abarowei, appealed to Buhari to dismiss the protest adding that Boroh’s penchant for due process, transparency and accountability exposed him to endless attacks.

Abarowei said: “We view as wicked, malicious and unacceptable any action that will further put PMB at a disadvantage in view.

” They are angry with Boroh for instituting many reforms that had sanitised the amnesty office and prevent leakages of funds.

“These people are no longer getting free money from the office because Boroh insisted that all the money must be applied strictly for the programme.

“This is the reason they are fighting our innocent brother. The Federal Government should not be deceived by their antics. Boroh is the best thing that has happened for the Amnesty programme”.

  • Jonathan’s monarch, kinsmen deny campaigning against Dickson

A king in Bayelsa State, Dumaro Owaba, the Obanobhan III of Ogbia town in Ogbia Local Government Area, has said that his kingdom was not against the administration of Governor Seriake Dickson.

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan hails from Ogbia.

The first-class monarch, who spoke at the weekend when Information and Orientation Commissioner Daniel Iworiso-Markson visited his palace, said persons making the insinuations were ignorant of the relationship between Ogbia and Dickson.

King Owaba, who hailed the visit, noted that it is the first time a commissioner from his kingdom will visit his palace without official invitation.

He stressed the need for unity by Ogbia people, enjoining leaders to stop making divisive statements.

“They should work towards bringing the clan together.”

The traditional ruler said the kingdom could produce another President, if leaders from the area put the interest of the kingdom first.

He said: “We are not opposing any government. Anytime there is unity in this land, great leaders will emerge in Ogbia. The little time that Ogbia Brotherhood was organised after the death of Melford Okilo, we saw leaders emerge, including Goodluck Jonathan.

“We should not fight because of political positions. We have one destiny. It is in working together that we can achieve development. The Ogbia man is not opposing the present administration because we know how the government came to power. The Ogbia people were behind him. Even if there are little differences, let us work to bring peace.”

Owaba praised Dickson for earmarking N1 billion for repair of roads in the kingdom.

He solicited the opening up of the hinterlands, especially Anyama.

President of Ogbia Brotherhood Chief Benson Agadaga said there was no truth in the rumour that Ogbia people hated Dickson.

He said the governor, who hails from Sagbama, holds a traditional chieftaincy title in the kingdom.

“The relationship between the people of Ogbia and the governor is like the umbilical cord. The governor is a chief in Ogbia and we are proud of him. Dickson has given us appointments and has been working with us to put Bayelsa on the fast lane of development,” Agadaga said.

Iworiso-Markson, who was described as a “round peg in a round hole” by the palace chiefs, said he was in the palace to familiarise himself with the people and the monarch.

He added that part of the reason for the visit is to solicit Ogbia kingdom’s support for Dickson and his administration in his bid to bring development to the kingdom.
