  • ‘That One Friend’ matters in life says, Harrysong, MC Shakara Others

It’s a popular belief, especially among Africans that friendships should be based on mutual love and respect, as well as desire to see the other person do well in life.

That theme was made manifest at the recently held media launch of 33 Export Lager’s event City of Friends where a number of Nigeria celebrities revealed certain milestones they achieved courtesy of one friend that helped them get there.

Alterplate Records owner and performing artiste Harrysong recently disclosed who the one friend he has is. The 37 year old musician (whose real name is Harrison Tare Okiri) chose his childhood friend, Design with whom he grew up in the streets of Warri, Delta State.

Harrysong was speaking at the launch event of 33’s City of Friends in Lagos. Harrysong was one of the A-list entertainers that came to kick things off.

“Design is my childhood friend and we’ve been together…we always come through for each other”, he said.

Friendship has always been a core of Harrysong’s artistry, having had a long professional and personal relationship with KCee for many years, a quality that not many entertainers have.

Whilst comedian Bash declared that he had a lot of friends, he pointed out a particular one by the name of  “Shakur” whom he revealed to be the driving force behind his tertiary education. “He was the friend that took me to The Polytechnic Ibadan- my first tertiary institution, and then paid for my school fees’.

On his part, Mavin disc jockey DJ Big N identified his label exec Don Jazzy and Dr Sid (who is also signed to Mavin Records) as his two closest friends. He credits Dr Sid for bringing him to the record label in the first place where his talent was given a platform to shine. He also mentioned Don Jazzy was revealed to be the individual who helped him get a car. “Don Jazzy literally gave me half of the money for my car!”

Another inspiring story was MC Shakara who retold the story of renting his first apartment and the support he got from his friend Emeka Smith. “It was a one-room apartment but nevertheless it was still a house. We saved up together to raise the funds. It took a long time to complete it but eventually we did… that’s a friend!

The City of Friends is an initiative of 33” Export Lager Beer as part of the activities marking the International Friendship Day. The campaign was set up to connect and share value among friends; which is a core characteristic of 33 Export Lager.

The City of Friends parties in Calabar will hold July 28th – 29th (at Municipal Gardens) and August 3rd – 4th in Lagos (Eagles’ Club, Surulere) and will feature the musical performances by 9ice, Harrysong, Simi, Kizz Daniel and Alabi Pasuma amongst other fan favourites.  Veteran comedian Gordons is also billed to perform alongside Nigeria’s top DJ’s who will be providing the tunes to keep fans on their feet

Following several requests and enquiries by Nigerian and foreign online media and entertainment outfits about the status of the matter, it has become needful to notify the public of the current state of facts.

“The suit at the Federal High Court last came up on 16th May, 2018 whereupon our lawyers informed the Judge of a pending application for status quo to further restrain the rebellious acts of the artiste in view of the recent release of previously unreleased songs from the ‘Evolution’ album, as well as the continued use of the name Kiss Daniel without our approval.”

The statement further revealed that the Judge emphatically told the Kiss’ lawyers to explore a settlement of the dispute as he does not believe the matter is one which should go to trial and that the lawyers should report on any settlement at the next adjourned date, 26th June 2018.

“We are unaware at the time of this release that the lawyers to Kiss have submitted any proposal with terms of settlement to our legal team.

  • Lil Kesh, Reekado Banks and Kiss Daniel: Three years after Headies clash

Lil Kesh, Reekado Banks and Kiss Daniel: Three years after Headies clash

THREE years ago at the Headies Award, three major new artistes were nominated for the next rated category which Reekado Banks eventually won.

Having won the next rated, a ‘fight’ broke out between Mavin Records boss Don Jazy and Olamide whose label, YBNL, Lil Kesh was signed on.

While speaking on stage, Olamide insinuated that Lil Kesh deserved the award because he dominated the Nigerian music industry that year in view with ‘back to back’ hits but was cheated on. He suspected foul play.

Although it was a great year for then G-Worldwide signee, Kiss Daniel, who had hits and was nominated alongside Kesh and Banks but the fight took the focus off the artiste.

Fast forward to last year, a lot seem to have happened as Kiss Daniel had a fight with his label which caused him to split and launch his own label Fly Boy Inc, Lil Kesh’s contract expired with Olamide’s YBNL,(he started his own label called Yagi Records) but Reekado Banks remain with Don Jazzy’s Mavin.

Within a space of three years the trio made moves, recorded songs and did shows but something seemed amiss somewhere.

2016 was a more competitive and ‘successful’ year for the artistes as they all had hit songs but who was able to maintain or rather be more consistent? Last year was quite disturbing for kiss Daniel because of his rift with his label but he still dished out hits like ‘Yeba’ and ‘No Do’ while Reekado on the other hand dropped ‘Easy’ (Jeje) which was an instant hit. He also did a follow up single, ‘Like,’ featuring label mate Tiwa Savage and celebrated guitarist Fiokee which is still enjoying massive airplay.

The Mavin artiste also had a ‘Thank You’ concert in Ibadan. However, not much has been heard from Yagi records CEO, Lil Kesh since his last release ‘RORA’ in November which wasn’t a typical hit that comes from Lil Kesh and it seem like the artiste is taking a break from music. In fact, Kesh hasn’t posted any video or picture on his Instagram page since December 30 2017 until January 31 this year with only less than 4,000 likes compared to his usual over 60,000 likes on a post.HOW would you say your career fared last year?  To me, 2017 was a fabulous year and I had a lot of events, both within and outside the country. We had quite a lot of things to do and it was a year of multiple ground breaking events.

What are your plans for the New Year?

This year, I’m definitely working on releasing a new album and I already dropped a single towards the end of 2017 ahead of the forthcoming album. I’m still in the studio working and I will be featuring a lot of artistes. I wouldn’t want to talk about them right now. The album dropping this year would be my second album.

Tell us about your new single, ‘Yes Sir’.

The song is just my own way of saying I praise and honour God. A line from the song says ‘I salute the Holy Commander. God is the Commander in Chief of our destiny and universe. He knows my end from the beginning and he determines the course of my life.’ All I’m saying is that even if the devil or someone tries to do anything in the face of adversity and challenges of life, I still come to say I salute the one that commands me.

What kind of music do you do?

I do Contemporary African gospel music with a fusion of some contemporary blend into it. So, it’s all-encompassing so people outside even Nigeria and Africa can have a feel of it and enjoy it but ultimately it’s gospel music.

Tell us more about this genre of music?

It is highly percussive as we have the talking drum, the drum set, shekere, omele and the African local instruments. On the contemporary side we have the keyboard, bass guitar, lead guitar and the saxophone. It’s a fusion of everything.

How did you come about the name Tosin Bee?

Tosin Bee is my stage name coined out of my name. At a point, I started bearing many names which wasn’t really sitting well. Along the line, I met someone who was supposed to be my manager at a time and we thought of a name that’s unique which will go well and we thought of having something from my name. So we took the Tosin from my name and the Bee from Adejumobi. That was how the name came about.

How long have you been doing music?

I’ve been in music for some time now and I started out in the choir. After a while, when I went to the university, I was the music director for my fellowship and after school I started fully and here we are today.

Can we say music has been your calling from childhood?

I would like to say that because some people would say they have been singing from their mother’s womb, but it’s been in me from childhood and my grandfather was a musician. But it wasn’t really developed until when I was a teenager when it became more of me.

Which artistes have you worked with so far?

In terms of recording, I have worked with Nosa, Mike Abdul, Big Bolaji, Big Bob and quite a number of artistes and they were all fantastic and it was cool working with them. Beyond the recording, I’m also a performing artiste and I have been on the stage with Tim Godfrey, Frank Edwards, Tope Alabi, Eben, Onos and I learnt valuable lessons from them.

    Why Gospel music?

For me, it’s a calling and I didn’t just wake up one day and said because I didn’t have any job let me do this. It’s a calling and I went to school to study English Language. After that, I went into PR and did Adverts and Public Relations. So this is a calling for me. It wasn’t like I forced myself into it as I found myself in it. But I believe that I have an assignment and God has called me to this. I believe one of the assignments is to use worship to liberate people and win souls by depopulating the kingdom of Hell and making Jesus more popular. I believe that’s the whole essence of why I am in this.

    What makes Tosin Bee exceptional?

First of all, if I am not going to be sounding too spiritual now I would say it’s the grace of God on me and sometimes you may have all the skills in this world and if you don’t have enough grace backing it up you may not be able to travel far. Secondly is the fact that I am versatile beyond the Fuji thing, as I said I do contemporary gospel music as it’s a fusion. A lot of people are one sided but I’m able to blend the two together, which is rare. That’s one of the things that make me unique and special.

What’s your relationship with the Redeemed Christian Church of God?

By God’s grace, I’m a full-fledged member of RCCG and a worship leader there and to the Glory of God the church has a record label, One Hallelujah, where I am signed as an artiste. I see myself as an integral part of the fold and I carry the banner of Christ like I carry the church too. I see myself as a tool of evangelism. So as much as the church is growing, the Kingdom of God is growing too.

What would be your advice for up and coming gospel artistes?

Whatever you’re doing, don’t set out for money which is obtainable generally in every field of which money will come but you most put the structure in place first. Work on yourself very well, carry the right values and make sure you have the things people would look for and don’t have any choice. One thing that really works in the gospel field more, which is the ultimate, is the anointing which will make you go far; so it’s best to seek for the anointing. And the anointing can only be gotten if you have right standing with God and definitely the money will come. Whatever you are doing, do it well and with excellence.

How do you maintain your youthful looks?

Funny enough, I felt that it wasn’t a cool thing as people saw me as a small boy but, eventually, I’m realising it’s actually a plus and I think it’s God and the way I take care of myself. Recently, I changed my hair style from Afro but these are calculated moves. Now, it’s a new style; so beyond that, I have the youthful look.

    What informs your dress sense?

I have a guy who designs my outfits, but personally I have a taste for beautiful things as I like to look good. When I spot anything that’s good I go for it and I have good designers around me.

What will be your biggest aspiration as a gospel artiste?

When I get to the point that when I sing and the lame start to walk and the blind get to see; the deaf start to hear and I think am okay. And when I open mouth and people are giving their life to Christ. God has a way of glorifying himself.

How do you deal with your female fans?

I try to be very careful really and you have a lot of ladies around as it comes with this line but I try to be very careful so I don’t lose focus and won’t go off track.

How soon do you hope to settle down?

As regards settling down, pretty soon I will.

  • More troubles for Kiss Daniel

    More troubles for Kiss Daniel

More troubles seem to be brewing for pop singer, Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, aka Kiss Daniels, even as his case with his former record label, G-Worldwide Entertainment, regarding a breach of contract continues to unfold.

It was recently brought to the notice of the public that both parties involved had been advised that there will be no need joining issues on legal principles on media as the matter is before the court of law.

According to information, a Federal High Court has given an order that status quo ante bellum under the contract, be maintained by the parties, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed in the suit. The import of the order being that the state under which the parties existed under the contract should be preserved until the court makes a determination of the motion on notice filed by the Company.

Information also revealed that the artiste and his team have chosen not to see the order of the court; as service of the process was evaded on the morning of December 5, 2017, when he was informed by his security guard that a court official had a package for him.

A statement signed by Emmanuel Ega, for G-Worldwide Limited reads; “it is regrettable that Kiss Daniel without reading the full text of the application for interim orders which can be gotten by a simple search of the court records, to understand the clear purpose of the order has denied the existence of the order and its import.

“The attempt to mislead the public is unfortunate and disgraceful. We expect him to say he has received the documents and they are working to respond to the claims”.

Meanwhile, in a counter move, the young artiste uploaded on his Instagram the statement by his solicitors L & A Legal Consultants showing that no such injunction has been served against him.

The statement, titled ‘What G-Worldwide Entertainment Limited will not tell you’ describes as unfortunate the publication by the label currently circulating on social media in respect of the exit of their client.

It states that the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos denied and refused G-Worldwide Entertainment Ltd’s application for an injunction restraining Kiss Daniel from performing, recording or using the stage name.

It also stated that the injunction was surreptitiously and secretly filed without notice to their client. And that Kiss Daniel terminated his contract with the record label via a letter on October 30th, 2017. The termination was done in compliance with the provision of the recording contract between the parties.

  • Record label sues Kiss Daniel over ‘breach’ of contract

Record label sues Kiss Daniel over ‘breach’ of contract

Just as singer Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, aka Kiss Daniel, is about to stabilise his newly launched Record label, Fly Boy Inc., with which he just released ‘No Do’, G-Worldwide Entertainment is putting up a fight, claiming their contract with the estranged singer is yet to expire.

The latter has taken the matter to court, stating that Kiss Daniel signed a 7-year Recording and Artist Management Contract with the Company in 2013, and cannot opt out prematurely.

A statement signed by Calmhill Partners, Counsel to G-Worldwide Ent. Ltd. stated: “The attention of G-Worldwide Entertainment Limited (‘the Company’) has been drawn to acts by Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe (alias ‘Kiss Daniel’), who recently has been making publications on different print media and social media platforms soliciting for bookings to perform songs from his album ‘New Era’ and ‘Evolution’.

“Mr. Anidugbe executed a 7-year Recording and Artist Management Contract (‘the Contract’) with the Company in 2013 and which contract is still subsisting.  Contrary to the express provisions of the contract, Mr. Anidugbe has taken steps to appoint a new manager, solicited for bookings, and has continued to negotiate and enter performance agreements in respect of the songs from the album ‘New Era’, and ‘Evolution’ which is set to be released soon containing singles such as ‘Yeba’, ‘For You’, ‘Senorita’, ‘Sofa’ and others, both produced under the contract, including using the stage name ‘Kiss Daniel’ without the company’s prior consent and permission”.

The statement further says that the company has approached the Federal High Court, Lagos in suit no. FHC/L/CS/1758/2017 between G-Worldwide Ent. Limited Vs Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe to affirm its rights over the intellectual property under the contract, which includes copyrights over the songs in both albums, and rights over the stage name: ‘Kiss Daniel’, by an application dated 20th November 2017.

The company has therefore sought interim orders of injunction, and other further orders as the court may deem fit to make, against Mr. Anidugbe, restraining the artiste’s further distribution, publication, or performance of these songs, or negotiating or entering any agreement thereof without the consent or permission of G-Worldwide Entertainment Ltd.

On November 30th, 2017, the Federal High Court made an order that status quo ante bellum under the contract, be maintained by the parties, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed in the suit. The import of the order being that the state under which the parties existed under the contract should be preserved until the court makes a determination of the motion on notice filed by the Company.

“All and any dealings in respect of the upload, distribution, and or performance of any of the songs, as well as the use or exploitation of the name ‘Kiss Daniel’ can therefore only be entered or made with the prior written consent and permission of the Company as provided under the contract,” says G-Worldwide.

According to the music company, “The general public and the whole world is further cautioned that as the matter is now before a Court of law (subjudice), and following the order to maintain status quo, any unauthorized upload, distribution, exploitation, performance, sales, and use of the songs; from the ‘New Era’ and ‘Evolution’ albums, or stage name ‘Kiss Daniel’, in any show, event, downloading or streaming platform, will be in violation of the Order of the Federal High Court. Anyone who does or continues to do so shall be liable as an accomplice for contempt of court, and the full weight of the law will be brought against that person as a contemnor.

“The final note is that any person or organization who negotiates, or enters into any agreement with Mr. Anidugbe, to engage him on the basis of his presumed rights over the songs in both albums, or the use of the stage name ‘Kiss Daniel’, does so at his or her own risk and peril.”

Though Kiss Daniel is yet to officially react to the development as at press time, on Tuesday, he took to Instagram to write, “Oluwatobiloba Daniel Dhikrullah Anidugbe, this is gonna be a sweet victory for you young man.#Nodo #warning #sense.”
