Metropolitan Grand Knight of Knights of St. Mulumba, Owerri Metro Council, Sir Eva Njemanze, has reaffirmed the Order’s commitment to the Catholic faith.
Njemanze spoke at Assumpta Pastoral Centre, Owerri, Imo State, shortly after overseeing admission of 104 members into the lay organisation.
“I want the intakes to hold on to their faith like Altar Boys would always say: ‘Closer to the Altar is closer to God.
“If you are not well grounded in the Catholic faith, you are like nylon—you just float. But joining the Knighthood makes you closer to God through the Catholic faith,” he said.
The Grand Knight urged the inducted members to lead recruitment efforts, stressing importance of growing the Order’s presence and influence.
He described the homily delivered during the ceremony as timely and instructive.
Addressing misconceptions about the nature of Knighthood, Njemanze dismissed suggestions that the organisation is a secret society, pointing to the openness of the ceremony as proof of its transparency.

“What we did today was an open affair. Those inside the chamber could see everything through windows. That shows we are not secret,” he said.
He further explained that the admission process includes rigorous scrutiny, ensuring that no candidate with affiliations to secret societies gains entry into the Order.
“During the interview stage, the candidates were asked if they belonged to any secret society. The brothers in the Order then had to vote before anyone was admitted. That process ensures that no one with such affiliations gains entry,” Njemanze stated.
Founded in 1953, the Knights of St. Mulumba is a Catholic lay organization dedicated to upholding the values of faith, service, and moral leadership within the Church and broader society.
