    Kogi United resumes training for new NNL season Nov. 18

    The management of Kogi United Football Club of Lokoja on Tuesday said the team would resume camping on Nov. 18, ahead of the 2017/2018 Nigeria National League ( NNL ) season.

    The club’s Team Manager, Ameh Henry, said in a statement in Lokoja that the players have been directed to arrive at the club’s camp on or before 11 p.m. of Nov. 18.

    “This is for training to commence the next day,’’ he said.

    Henry added however that the club would not tolerate lateness to camp by players.

    “Such an attitude will attract a fine as the club intends to intensify preparations for the new season early,’’ he said.

    Kogi United’s coach Tunde Abdulrahman has already expressed delight at the team’s performance in the 2016/2017 season.

    .As Gov Bello clears sign-on-fees

    KOGI State Governor, Yahaya Bello has paid the sign-on-fees and allowances for players and officials of Kogi United and Confluence Queens for the 2015/2016 football season.

    This was disclosed in a statement signed by the chairman of the state owned clubs, Abdul Sule on Monday in Lokoja.

    Sule said the sports loving governor has again displayed his commitment and love for sports, especially football with the prompt payment of players and officials season dues.

    The former Stationery Stores striker thanked Governor Bello for his support just as promised that the state clubs would reciprocate the gesture with an improved performance in the coming football season.

     “His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has paid all the sign-on-fees for both Kogi United and Confluence Queens for the outgone season,” begin the former Super Eagles defender.

     “We do not owe any player a dime, we’ve cleared all our players’ transfer fees and His Excellency has also encouraged us with necessary motivation to do well in our campaigns,” he said.

     Sule, who also double as the Chairman of Club Owners for the Nigeria National League, NNL clubs explained that in order to further empower the youth in the state, his management has decided to raise a Feeder team for the Confluence Queens which will serve as the nursery for players to break into the main team.

     

    “When we raised the Feeder club for Kogi United last year, we knew it would assist us to empower the youth in the state, draw them from the streets and make them professionals, that has yield rapid result as we now have about ten of them that have break into the main team of Kogi United FC and they (Kogi United Feeder) have become a force to reckon with in Kogi State grassroots competitions as we have also had few of them going out to join other top clubs, with support we are getting from present administration, we can have the 21 LGAs represented in the feeder team and eventually in the main team.

     

    “This is what brought about the proposal to do the same for Confluence Queens FC, we have many other girls that train at the stadium daily and those outside the state capital can be drafted in to make up the feeder team, and we do hope this will increase the number of our sons and daughters to be engaged and empowered positively through sports, especially football, thanks to Governor Bello for creating this enabling atmosphere and we will continue to make him proud through football,” Sule concluded.

    Abiodun: Kogi United set for league

    Captain of Nigeria National League, (NNL) side, Kogi United FC, Afolabi Abiodun, has disclosed his team mates’ readiness to fight for one of the two Glo Premier League slots in their NNL group.

    Afolabi, who is one of the longest serving players of the club, said the team has gathered the needed experience under Coach Fatai Osho and are ready to make a statement with their performance when the league begins next week.

    While speaking through the club’s spokesperson, Wale Mustapha, Afolabi said: “We are fully ready to play the league now and with the spirit in me and my players, I believe we have a chance to get one of the tickets to promote”, Afolabi begins.

    “The management is fully there for us, they are keeping us in better condition, the coaches are also there for us technically, and our job now is to pay them pack with a good game and good results.”

    The former AS Madana FC of Niger Republic ace added that he rejected offers from top clubs in the country to lead the club he joined five seasons ago back to the apex league in the country.

    “Yes, I had an opportunity to join one of the Premier League clubs, but I turned them down because I want to help this team back to to the Premier League, and also to gain more experience under our new coaches, I believe with God on our side, we will achieve that at the end.”

    Kogi United will begin life in the NNL Group A with a home game against Ranchers Bees of Kaduna on Saturday, 15th February.

    Crown FC will play a friendly match with Kogi United today at the practice pitch of the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode.

    The Ajilete Boys recently arrived Ijebu Ode for a camping exercise ahead of the Globacom Premier League season for 2013/2014.

    They stormed Ijebu Ode with 45 players which they hope to trim down to 35 before the commencement of the league.

    The club’s spokesman, Kunle Oyeleye told SportingLife that the initial idea of the team was to concentrate solely on training but that they had to listen to the constant pressure from local clubs to engage them in friendly games.

    Crown made a sensational return to the premier league last season after some years in the lower division. They were second behind Abia Warriors.

    The chairman of Kogi United, Abdul Adama, has challenged the players and officials of the team to embrace discipline as preparations for the new season picks up a gear.

    The chairman praised the team for their performances, and the way they cooperated with their officials in the on-going pre-season. He encouraged them to give their best in order to get signed by the club for the season.

    The Kogi United boss then assured the officials and players of Kogi United on the support of the state governor, Captain Idris Wada at getting the club repositioned for better performance.

    He continued by charging the team to bring the desired beautiful football and results to give the club a Premier League ticket next year.

    The Fatai Osho-tutored Kogi United have shown fresh ambition for top-flight football having secured a spot in the 2013/2014 Nigeria National League after the state government acquired a slot for the Lokoja-based side who suffered relegation last season owning to a poor run of results.
