    Korra Obidi reflectson 15-year journey from Surulere to global stage

    Despite public criticism, Nigerian singer and dancer Korra Obidi has said she remains proud of her achievements since beginning her career 15 years ago.

    Obidi, who started as a dancer in Surulere, Lagos, described her journey from local stages to international platforms as proof that ‘dreams can travel.’

    “Navigating my life in the public eye, living authentically without caving to societal pressures of conformity has been one of my proudest feats in the few adult years I have lived,” she said.

    The mother of two noted that staying focused on her craft and rejecting ego have been her guiding principles.

    “Through the treacherous terrains of public opinion, I have found peace by recentering myself, drinking my body’s weight in water daily, minding my craft, and remaining humble,” Obidi explained.

    “Ego is the enemy. Learning every day and grooming a growth mentality is the key. Stagnation and redundancies are never condoned in the Korraverse,” she added.

    The 34-year-old entertainer recently concluded a two-month tour across Berlin, Italy, and Antigua.

    Controversial dancer and singer Korra Obidi has voiced her frustration over the public’s tendency to accuse her of fabricating or staging the challenges in her life.

    On her Facebook page, Korra questioned why some people are so quick to assume that her misfortunes are orchestrated. “Why are some people so quick to say I stage the misfortune in my life?” she asked.

    Her remarks appear to be a response to ongoing criticism and scrutiny following her widely publicised and turbulent divorce from ex-husband, Justin Dean, which was finalised in November 2022.

    Obidi addressed those still fixated on her past marriage, urging them to move on.

    This declaration comes after her highly publicised divorce from Justin Dean, with whom she has two children. 

    She said: “Serious Nigerian woman when I marry the man becomes my life. So now I’m trying to put that energy into making money so I don’t end up homeless like I was. I know that nobody is coming to save me in a in a knight and shining armour so I need to focus on the money.

    “I want to make a public service announcement. I’m not the only person that got married in Nigeria. In fact, my marriage was not even public. All you people saw was one post on Instagram: ‘Korra is taken.’ You people are now carrying the marriage to tie my legs.

    “It has been two years [since my divorce], please leave me alone. I am single as a dollar bill. And I am not searching. I have many boys that service me”.

    “But now I’m single… I’m getting booked back to back, so it’s good for me. I think being single is good in the industry,” she said.

    Angered by the actions of Korra Obidi, a prominent Nigerian-American dancer facing controversy, Nigerians on various social media platforms have criticized her for allegedly diverting the $50,000 target of her GoFundMe campaign towards a vacation in Hawaii, United States.

    Recall that Obidi on Friday, created a GoFundMe with the sole aim of hiring a good lawyer who would help fight her case against her ex-husband, Justin Dean, over their kids.

    Obidi aimed to hit $100,000 with the GoFundMe account but it generated over $50,000 raised from over 950 donors worldwide.

    “As a mother, it’s time to fight for myself and my kids,” Obidi said, while also sharing her GoFundMe account details, seeking the assistance of fans and friends.

    Making a shocking move, Korra made a U-turn after raising the money.

    The mother of two on Sunday, said during a live session on Facebook that she had plans for a vacation in Hawaii.

    Her decision garnered backlash from netizens as many hurled insults at her, with many alleging that the main intent of the GoFundMe was never to file a suit against the husband but to lavish on her extravagant lifestyle.

    Below are some reactions:

    Wanda Johnson, a Facebook user, said: “She got y’all’s money, now she’s at the airport. Some of you are too weak to believe her foolishness. She is always begging, scamming, and manipulating.”

    “You are gradually becoming a professional beggar on social media,” one Chigoziri Ohochukwu on Facebook opined.

    “Mad that she can’t post pictures because without posting pictures she can’t make money. She needs to post pictures of her kids to make money. But she would rather go to Hawaii than see. Her children are sickening and people gave her $. Or whatever was on that go find me. People need to report the go fund everybody needs to report to get their money back,” a user who identifies as Jennifer Lynn Russell claimed.

    Nene Peters stated: “WTF you were just on here crying about you need a lawyer now, you traveling. I’m done with you wow.”

    “Two days ago she was crying for donation now she is traveling,” said Hermi Matilya

    Bridget O’Connell said, “Yeah I’m not gonna lie Traveling to Hawaii is crazy after receiving all that money for Lawyer Girl! You shoulda done that in silence.”

    Mary Monique Napont said: “It’s none of your business ladies. She is an influencer, performer, student, and most importantly a great mother. Leave her be. You are a part of the problem. She’s not hurting you in any way. If you don’t like her, don’t follow her. It’s that simple.”

    Before the new development, recall that the divorce and custody battle between Obidi and Dean has been on the internet about their marital crisis.

    Recent developments have granted Justin the right to restrict their two children from featuring on Obidi’s online content.

    She also posted a plea online, accusing Dean of abuse and “gaslighting” during their marriage, claiming he is now subjecting their daughters to similar treatment.

    “My lovers, please be wiser than the normal gullible people. Mr Dean is a desperado. When I got my big breakthrough, that was when he filed for divorce. He cannot stand attention that is not on him. This is two years down the line and he is still talking about me because the only way he can stay relevant is to call my name.”

    In the circulating video, Dean shared some proofs backing up his claims.

    Nigerian dancer, Anita Obidi aka Korra Obidi, has been attacked in the United Kingdom.

    Korra made this known on Thursday, April 11 via her official Instagram saying the attack occurred while she was in the middle of a live stream on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

    In a video shared by Obidi on her Instagram account, she said, “My face is burning, can I have some coke to wash it please.”

    The livestream footage reportedly showed Korra Obidi in distress, frantically washing her face with a Coca-Cola beverage, likely to neutralize the burning sensation of an acid attack.

    In the same video, two uniformed officers arrived at the scene. One officer applied a liquid solution to her face, presumably to ease the pain. The other officer can be seen spraying her back, likely administering first aid.

    In a caption accompanying the disturbing video, Obidi pleaded with the public for any information that could identify and apprehend her attacker.

    The dancer described her attacker as a black female of approximately five feet in height. She further revealed she had been subjected to hateful comments online in the past, but this physical assault serves as a stark wake-up call.

    “Currently in an ambulance to the hospital, there was a knife, acid attack on me in the UK in the middle of a live stream.

    “There’s been a lot of hate in the past but this physical assault is a wakeup call.

    Media personality Usiwo Orezinena Jane, popularly known as Janemena has called for prayers and support for dancer, Korra Obidi following her alleged acid attack. 

    The Nation reported that the dancer was reportedly attacked in the UK during a live-stream.  

    Expressing emotional support to the dancer, Jane wrote on Instagram: “I would never understand the h8 and Envy some women have towards @korraobidi I never understands it. She doesn’t have it all, nobody does have it all so why the jealousy?

    The mother of two announced this on her social media. 

    In the trending video on her instagram page, she was seen washing her face with coca-cola. 

    She said she was already in an ambulance on her way to the hospital.
