    Kosofe disburses N25m in second phase of N100m empowerment scheme 

    In continuation of the ongoing Kosofe Local Government under the #Kosofe Cares and the Renewed Hope Agenda 100 Million Naira Empowerment Scheme, the local government has successfully organised the second phase of the impactful initiative aimed at uplifting artisans, strengthening small and medium-scale enterprises, and enhancing economic self-reliance across communities within the Local Government Area.

    The event drew beneficiaries, community leaders, youth groups, artisans, market associations, and stakeholders who gathered to witness the continuation of this people-centered programme.

    The programme kicked off with a warm and insightful Welcome Address by the Council Manager, Mosunmola Otaiku-Okoka, who expressed delight at hosting Artisans and Tradesmen in the second phase of the empowerment scheme. She appreciated the Executive Chairman for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to grassroots development. 

    She noted that the empowerment initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which promotes economic inclusion and support for citizens at all levels.

    She further encouraged all beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly and assured them that the Barr. Ogunlewe led administration remains committed to sustaining such initiatives for broader community growth.

    In his Keynote Address, the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, ably represented by the Former Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Fatai Gbedebo, described the scheme as a deliberate step towards strengthening the socio-economic landscape of the Local Government. 

    He highlighted that the ₦100 million intervention, now in its second phase, continues to support traders, artisans, who require financial assistance to enhance their livelihoods and businesses.

    The Council Mayor further announced that beneficiaries will receive instant credit alerts, ensuring immediate access to funds and eliminating unnecessary delays. 

    He emphasised that the sustainability of the empowerment scheme demonstrates the administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of residents. 

    He further reiterated that transparency and accountability remain central to the programme, and that the selection process was fair, inclusive, and guided by community needs.

    In the same vein, major stakeholders at the occasion commended the Executive Chairman for sustaining the empowerment scheme beyond its initial stage, while urging beneficiaries to expand their businesses with the financial support received and put it to good use.

    The second phase concluded with heartfelt expressions of appreciation from the beneficiaries.

    Kosofe residents hail chairman on new roads

    Residents of Kosofe Local Government Area in Lagos State have expressed their appreciation following the inauguration of three new strategic link roads.

    They gave the commendations in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

    NAN reports that the roads include; Lateef Dosumu Street,  Ilawe Street in Ifako and Musa Adewokun Street in Ojota.

    The residents said they believed the roads would significantly improve mobility and boost the local economy.

    An All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Ifako, Chief Olayinka Ogunnekan, described the new roads as “game-changers” that would stimulate business aactivities.

    “We are thrilled with the commissioning of these new roads. It’s a game-changer for our community, and we are grateful to the Kosofe Local Government,” he said.

    Chairman of Winniped Estate, Mr Femi Ojo, said that the roads would alleviate traffic congestion and improve residents’ daily commutes.

    “The new roads will definitely improve our daily commute and make life easier for us.

    We appreciate the chairman’s commitment to infrastructural development,” he said.

    Mr Jamiu Talabi of Ojota Central CDA, representing residents of Musa Adewokun Street, emphasised the positive impact on local businesses.

    Kosofe launches 4th edition of free UTME

    Kosofe Local Government in Lagos State has launched the fourth edition of its free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration initiative.

    Chief Press Secretary to the council chairman, Oluwole Obisanya, said this in a statement on Monday in Lagos.

    He noted that the initiative demonstrates the unwavering commitment to advancing academic excellence within the community.

    He said: “I am pleased to announce the commencement of our fourth edition of free JAMB forms distribution under the Kosofe Edu-Support Initiative, #KosofeConcern.”

    He noted that beneficiaries must be residents of Kosofe Local Government Area.

    He added that to be fair with the exercise, beneficiaries would go through screening to ascertain their eligibility.

    “The distribution details and eligibility criteria include: beneficiaries must be residents of Kosofe LG and must be 16 years of age or above before November 2023.

    “SS1 and SS2 students are not eligible and parents or guardians are not allowed in the screening venue.

    “The required documents for the free forms include; Photocopy of NIN card, photocopy of LASRA card, also, photocopy of O’Level result,” he said.

    The exercise will take place at the Kosofe Local Government Secretariat Hall between January 29 and 30.

    The Executive Chairman, Kosofe Local Government Area, Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, has given an account of his three years in office.

    At a media parley at the council secretariat with the Vice Chairman, Oluwole Sosanya, Leader of Kosofe Legislative Arm Oluloro Idowu, and other members of his excos, Ogunlewe, who listed what he described as his modest achievements, expressed optimism that every resident regardless of social strata and political affiliations would continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy in fulfillment of his electoral promises to the people.

    “Three years ago, you entrusted me with the leadership of this great local government. You placed your hope, dreams, and aspirations in our hands, believing in our vision for a better Kosofe. Today, I am both humbled and proud to present to you our scorecard – a testament to our collective efforts and achievements over the past three years,” he began.

    Pressed further, he said: “When we assumed office in July 2021, we made a solemn promise to work tirelessly for the development and prosperity of Kosofe. We pledged to focus on key areas that would significantly improve the lives of our people – infrastructure, health, education, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment. Today, I am pleased to report that we have made substantial progress in each of these areas.

    “Let me start with our infrastructure development initiatives, which we aptly named ‘Kosofe Works’. Infrastructure is the backbone of any thriving community, and we recognised its critical importance from day one. I am proud to announce that over the past three years, we have constructed a total of 30 roads across all seven wards of our local government.”

    The lawyer said many road network projects “dot the Kosofe landscape all across Mende, Anthony, Ogudu, Ifako/Gbagada, Oworo I and II, Ojota axis and environs, with additional 11 in the works, including drainages, construction of blocks of classrooms, boreholes, primary healthcare centres,” just as he has made interventions in the primary and post-primary levels of education in the council.

    Under his administration, the Kosofe Food Bank, an initiative to help cushion the effect of the spiraling food inflation especially for the vulnerable and less privileged members of the council as palliatives.

    Ogunlewe, who boasted that the council relied totally on the internally generated revenue and its monthly allocations from the Federal Government without recourse to any external loans, assured that his administration will continue to work towards uplifting the people and the council in general, even as he expressed his token of appreciation to the leaders of thoughts in the community include the Governors’ Advisory Council, traditional rulers, market women, transport unions, community development associations amongst other stakeholders for their support and encouragement thus far.

    Cholera: Kosofe council locks contaminated wells, boreholes

    Kosofe Local Government in Lagos State has locked some boreholes and wells to avert them to prevent further spread of cholera.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bacterium Vibrio cholerae causes cholera, an infection of the intestines, which is got from drinking contaminated water or eating contaminated food.

    Mr Moyosore Ogunlewe, the Chairman of  Kosofe LG, made the assertion while giving out his three-year Score Card at a media parley at the Council’s Secretariat yesterday.

    He said many residents were tested and given appropriate medical attention to detect and prevent more people from contracting the disease.

    “We have locked up the affected wells and boreholes in affected community especially in Oworo area to ensure and prevent the spread of the disease,’’ he added..

    The residents of Kosofe Local Government Area and the Mandate Movement, a political group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the weekend celebrated former member, House of Representatives for Kosofe Federal Constituency, Prince Rotimi Agunsoye on his 62nd birthday. It was a white and orange affair in Kosofe as the dignitaries, including former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa; Chairman Lagos Mandate Movement, Abdullai Ayinde ‘Enilolobo’ and former member House of Representatives (Agege Federal Constituency), Dr. Samuel Babatunde Adejare, lauded the celebrator.

    Adejare described the celebrator, as a ‘hardworking fellow, very intelligent, with humongous amount of native intelligence. He is a man that is brave, courageous and who says it the way it is. If you have Rotimi as a friend, you don’t need to look for another. He will not desert you and he will tell you when you’re wrong and when you are right. Above all, he’s a family man, very humble and a good party man.” Ayinde, on his part, congratulated the celebrator for retaining the loyalty of his people despite no longer being in office. He thanked God on his behalf and wished him long life, up to 95.

    “Rotimi is a party stalwart, not only in Kosofe but in the whole of Lagos State, which is why this huge multitude has gathered to celebrate him yet again,” Ayinde said.

    In his appreciation speech, Agunsoye recalled that the group had for the past 15 or 16 years, celebrated him on his birthday. He, therefore, prayed and thanked them for their steadfastness for the party and love and support for him, even after office. He said their action has again demonstrated that the Mandate Movement indeed owned Kosofe.

    Kosofe begins sinking of 20 boreholes

    The Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area, in Lagos State, Mr. Moyosore Ogunlewe, has said the sinking of 20 boreholes in seven wards of the council, to address water shortage, has begun.

    This is contained in a statement by the Acting Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Mr. Oluwole Obisanya.

    Ogunlewe explained that the first phase of the project would cover 10 boreholes across the local government area.

    The council boss further said the project was in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) six: ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all.

    “The specific locations of the first 10 boreholes include Olayiwola Owoiya/Ikuomola Close Junction, Oworonsoki (Ward A); Miyaki Street/ Odugbemi Street, Opposite Idera Mosque (Ward B); Ayodele Okeowo Road/ Kristabel Junction, Ifako (Ward C); Diya Street by Ifako Roundabout, Ifako (Ward C).

    “Others are Olorunlogbon Street, Anthony (Ward D); Aminu Street, Mende (Ward E);

    Adeshiyan Street/Biola Fadayomi Junction, behind Total filling station, Ojota (Ward F); Gbadebo Street, Ojota (Ward F); Adebare Street, Ogudu (Ward G) and Eyiaro Street , Ogudu (Ward G),” he said.

    Ogunlewe also said the boreholes were part of the council’s positive developmental projects, for Kosofe residents.

    “The boreholes will provide much-needed relief and improve the overall well-being of the people,” he said.

    Encomiums poured in for the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Hon Barr Moyosore Ogunlewe, as political associates, friends, staff and members of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) felicitated with him on the occasion of his 40 birthday anniversary recently.

    As all roads led to his Ogudu GRA residence, the celebrator hosted all invited guests who had come to wish him goodwill.

    Among the A-list of dignitaries include his Vice Chairman, Hon. Oluwole Sosanya, Hon Kafilat Ogbara, the lawmaker representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Hon. Sanni Ganiu Okanlawon, Kosofe State Constituency 1, and a host of others.

    Famous gospel artiste, Tope Alabi, lit up the atmosphere with her exhilarating performance as she dished out hymns and songs from her rich repertoire.

    The view of many who commented on the array of guests at the event and especially Ogunlewe’s significant age, showed his sphere of influence within the social political firmament of Kosofe.

    According to Comrade Wale Alabi, a political analyst, the dynamic and lively atmosphere of the celebration reflected the high regard shared by colleagues, community members, and party leaders, in accepting Ogunlewe’s role in the socio-political fabric of Kosofe Local Government Area and Lagos State in general.

    Kosofe holds retreat

    Some officials of Kosofe Local Government have held a retreat to deliberate on the state of affairs and way forward for the local government.

    This was to complement the council’s recent budget retreat that took place in Lekki.

    The retreat, which held at Banex Hotel, Anthony Village, was graced by the council chairman, Moyosore Ogunlewe, a representative of Senator Tokunbo Abiru, councillors, all Senior Special Assistants to the chairman, council officials, the All Progressives Congress (APC) party leaders,  also had the SSAs presenting a white paper to the chairman, specifying suggestions for moving the council forward.

    According to head of the retreat planning committee, Funsho Oduntan, “the retreat was to deliberate and assist the chairman as his think-tank, and also encourage his aides to work harder towards the success of the administration.

    Ogunlewe commended them for the initiative.

    “There are forty of SSAs and I’m very sure what they’ve put together in the white paper would have a positive impact on the people of Kosofe. Part of the reasons we’ve also brought them in is to encourage them and harness their ideas for the progress of the council.”

    Comfort Olafare, Legislative Assistant to Senator Tokunbor Abiru, who represented the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, extolled the efforts of the officials for projecting the image of the council.

    Olalere urged them to work harder because “the reward of good work is more work, but you can be rest assured that somebody somewhere is watching and recognition and reward will come when you least expect.”

    Awards of commendation were also given to outstanding performers in the council, including the senator and the council chairman.
