    Lagos Speaker, KSA set for PMAN’s exhibition, carnival

    Today, another landmark event will be recorded in the annals of the entertainment industry in Nigeria, as the much-hyped music exhibition and carnival organised by the PMAN, Lagos State branch, kicks off at the open ground of the Lagos State Council for Art and Culture, Ikeja, Lagos.
    According to the organizers, the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, will speak on “The necessity for entertainment-enabling laws in Lagos State” on Wednesday, December 18, while ace Juju musician, King Sunny Ade, will speak on “Music, the big machine that will rank into any platform”. Also, former governor of Lagos PMAN, Dr. Adewale Ayuba, will deliver a lecture titled “Curbing the menace of piracy”.
    While speaking on this event, the incumbent governor of Lagos PMAN, Kabiyesi Ayinde Olomide, said the planned music exhibition and carnival is in conjunction with the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture.
    According to him, “The idea is a new innovation aimed at telling the history of the now buoyant music industry. Some people don’t know the history of music. They don’t know where the industry is coming from. All these old format of music presentations will be on parade at the exhibition centre. The new generation believes only in CDs. Through the exhibition, we will be able to show what the industry has gone through, in terms of changes and positive innovations. They will see gramophones, turntables and cartridges, among other musical gadgets. Music Label owners, Music Promoters Association of Nigeria (MUPAN); Music Advertisement Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Alaba CD sellers, among other stakeholders, will have their stands and will provide some of the exhibition materials. Companies will also be on ground to showcase other products. There will be a permanent stage for different artistes to perform throughout the period of the exhibition.”
    The Mainland based-Fuji artiste further said, “This is one of the ways we hope to make PMAN attractive to every artiste again. We want PMAN to regain its lost glory. It will be free for participants and exhibitors will have to see the organizers for allocation of spaces. It will be declared opened on Monday 16 by the Lagos State governor.”
    A member of the organizing committee and deputy governor, Lagos State PMAN, Alhaji Fatai Tijani, said the programmed is being supported by agencies such as LASSRA, LASRAB, Inland Revenue and Eagle Paints,
    Also, Comrade Ewetade Monsur, secretary, Lagos PMAN, said, “It is a bi-annual event and, at least, one thousand participants are expected at the maiden edition.”

    WITH long term aim of bringing together artistes from different genres, eras and regions to create a modern and authentic African sound through musical fusion, the premier of Episode 1, Season 1 of Coke Studio, Africa’s one of a kind musical fusion project took place at the Genesis Deluxe Cinemas recently with entertainment and industry moguls in attendance.

    Season 1 of Coke Studio features a line-up of African artistes including legendary King Sunny Ade, MI, Waje, Jimmy Jatt and Bez from Nigeria; Salif Keita from Mali; Octopizzo, Miss Karun and Just a Band from Kenya; Hip Hop Pantsula and Tumi from South Africa; Boddhi Satva from the Central African Republic; Diamond Platinumz, Lady Jaydee and the Culture Music Club from Tanzania; Joel Sebunjo, Qwela and Lillian Mbabazi from Uganda.

    According to rapper MI, Coke Studio is nothing short of an exciting musical adventure. Fusing different sounds and creating something totally different is something he finds very intriguing and also opines that it was this idea of musical collaboration that gave rise to his song African rapper No.1. According to him Coke Studio is an opportunity to delve into evergreen music like Highlife, Apala, Sakara, Kalangu among others and he commends Coca-Cola’s unique concept of fusion music.

    Lead artistes like King Sunny Ade pick the songs they want to remake and then work on it with collaborating artistes like Nigeria’s Temi Dollface, Kenya’s Bamboo, Sage and Dela as well as Kassongo from DRC.

    IN preparation for its cross-generational music concert, the organisers of The First Music Festival, Five Star Music and Golden Tulip Hotel, have unveiled a list of corporate organisations who have thrown their weight behind the event.

    At the unveiling ceremony held at Golden Tulip Hotel on Thursday, April 4, General Manager of the hotel, Shousha Moshen, expressed gratitude at the support stating that the vision is to continue the festival many decades to come. “It has nothing to do with the finance; it has everything to do with the support. Highpoint of the festival will be the presentation of awards to Nigeria’s music legends such as King Sunny Ade, Onyeka Onwenu, Femi Kuti and Bright Chimezie,” Moshen said

    The sponsors of the first music festival, which is slated for April 20, include Best beverages, Lion Stone, Egypt Air, Air France, KLM, Turkish Airlines, Don Morris, Diamond Battery, Samarien Energy and a host of others.

    President of Five Star Music, Kingsley Okonkwo, aka Kcee, of the defunct Kcee Presh music group, said that the music festival is not like any show but is out to register something in this nation as far as music is concerned. “When the idea came up, we had no money, no sponsor, no idea to get money and today, the festival is going to happen because there are people that are actually supporting the dream. No matter how little their support is, they have seen the dream and have decided to key into it,” he enthused.

    Billed to perform at the event are some of the country’s legendary and young superstars including King Sunny Ade, Onyeka Onwenu, Bongos Ikwue, Tuface Idibia, Flavour Nabania, Kcee, Ice Prince, Olamide, Pasuma Wonder.
