Eid el-Fitr: Traditional ruler calls for continued tolerance, unity

The Chief of Paseli village in Kuje Area Council, Alhaji Usman Yusuf has called on Muslims in the country to imbibe the virtues of love and tolerance during and after Eid-el-Fitr.

Yusuf made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in his message to the people of Kuje to mark the occasion.

“Some teachings by the prophet were humility, selfless service, the welfare of the people, trust-worthiness, sacrifice, religious tolerance, peace and stability for all irrespective of religious backgrounds.

“It is, therefore, necessary to relate his lifetimes with what we do in Nigeria today,’’ the chief said.

He said peace, tolerance, steadfastness, perseverance; love of one another would go a long way in saving the country from disintegration.

According to him, Nigeria needs prayer, support and patriotic zeal of the people to move the nation forward.

The chief observed that Prophet Muhammad taught and demonstrated how best to live in the world to attain salvation on earth and hereafter.

“The nation has the human and natural potential to achieve greatness and most Nigerians have excelled in various fields of human endeavours across the world.

“Nigerians should love and tolerate each other, irrespective of religious and political differences for the nation to overcome the security challenges confronting it,’’ he said.

He advised Muslims in Nigeria not to use the occasion for merriment alone, but to reflect on issues aggravating insecurity, terrorism, corruption, joblessness, violence, and instability in the country.

  • Revenue: Kuje Area Council begins property evaluation

Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has commenced the assessment of properties, in an effort to boost its revenue, the Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Galadima, has said.

Galadima said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kuje on Friday that the council needed the cooperation and understanding of residents for the project to succeed.

“As I speak, we have achieved about 70 percent of the entire assessment exercise and when completed, it will be published for claims and objections.

“The revenue that will come from tenement rates will give the council substantial funds that will complement allocation from the Federation Account,” he said.

Galadima said the current revenue collections from daily ticketing, mobile advertisement, shops and market stalls were not enough to fund development in the area.

He said his administration inherited a revenue collection structure that was characterised by serious leakages and untapped potentialities.

The chairman said to complement the shortfall in revenue, his administration attempted to harmonise revenue collection and block all leakages.

He said the effort was sabotaged by some of the council’s revenue collectors and some residents, who were benefiting from the leakages.

The council chief said his administration had re-strategised and perfected the revenue collection process, adding that the strategy had was already yielding results.

  • KUJE AREA COUNCIL CHAIR: Help me to recover my land

KUJE AREA COUNCIL CHAIR: Help me to recover my land

I commend your paper for giving people the opportunity to bring their problems to the attention of our leaders.

My own problem is a special one. I consider it special because it is seriously disturbing my mind. This is why the authority concerned must come to my aid by solving the problem quickly.

A plot of land was allocated to me by the Kuje Area Council in 1996.

Its fence was demolished by the Chukuku community, and the land was later sold to another person by the community.

I reported the matter to the Kuje Area Council, but nothing was done. I also took the case to the Public Complaints Commission. All my efforts to make the body help me out were in vain.

I am now appealing to the Kuje Area Council and Federal Capital Territory to bail me out of the problem.

    Elder Lawrence Balogun Rotimi,

    Akure, Ondo State.
