Next Awujale: KWAM1 laments exclusion as Fusengbuwa resumes nomination process

    …writes governor Abiodun

Fuji music maestro and Olori Omooba of Ijebu land, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, has expressed concern over perceived moves by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to exclude him from the nomination process for the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

Ayinde alleged that the Fusengbuwa ruling house, which is next in line to produce the next Awujale, has been taken decisions that run contrary to the Chieftaincy Declaration, Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State.

In a letter written to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, KWAM 1 who is said to be of the Fidipote Ruling House claimed that the Fusengbuwa house was sidelining him from the ongoing selection process for the next Awujale.

This is coming as the Fusengbuwa Ruling House resumes the nomination process tomorrow, January 12, 2026 in Ijebu Ode, the Headquarters of Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State after an initial halt to the process.

Scores of princes were said to have indicated their intentions to succeed the last Awujale, late Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who joined his ancestors at 91 on July 13, 2025 after 65 years reign on the throne.

KWAM1’s allegations of exclusion were contained in a letter dated January 8, 2026, sent to Governor Abiodun by musician’s lawyer, Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN.

Earlier, he had approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu Ode seeking an interim injunction to restrain Governor Abiodun and six others from proceeding with the selection process but the court declined the request.

The musician eventually withdrew the suit, without providing explanations.

However, in the recent letter to the governor, he recalled that the Ijebu Ode Local Government, had through a letter dated January 6, 2026, from its Secretary, Oke Adebanjo, granted the Fusengbuwa Ruling House the approval to commence the nomination process and conclude it within 14 days starting from January 6.

He said he was surprised to know that while family members were preparing for the meeting, one Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa, the family’s Public Relations Officer, issued a notice directing candidates to collect nomination cards and appear before a screening committee.

KWAM1 noted that the directive scheduled the nomination exercise for Monday, January 12, 2026.

The letter read, “It is a matter of deep concern to our client that all these directives, which contravene the Chieftaincy Declaration, Obas and Chiefs Law, and the letter from the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, were included in the family’s letter dated January 6, 2026.

“It is clear that there are plans by the leadership of the ruling house to disenfranchise members desirous of participating in the nomination of candidates for the Awujale stool.

“We wish to emphasize that all members of the ruling house are entitled to attend the meeting to nominate candidates of their choice.

“A group of people in the ruling house cannot usurp these rights. The directive providing for screening and nomination by delegates is inconsistent with both the spirit and letter of the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State 2021.

“In the interest of justice and compliance with due process, we urge timely intervention to address these concerns, ensuring the integrity of the process and protecting our client’s rights.”

Fuji music superstar, King Wasiu Ayinde, popularly called K1 De Ultimate, has addressed critics on his decision to contest for the vacant stool of Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.

Recall last week, K1 De Ultimate formally declared interest in the vacant throne of the Awujale of Ijebuland.

Before K1’s entry, the race had already attracted notable candidates, including a 45-year-old prince from Adeberu lineage of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Olaseni Ottun, and a prominent engineer and an entrepreneur, Otunba Babatunde Alatise.

In a letter to the chairman of the Funsengbuwa Ruling House dated December 3, the Fuji icon expressed his intention to vie for the vacant stool, declaring himself a bona fide son of the ruling house, tracing his ancestry to Oba Jadiara lineage.

He said: “I, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan Anifowoshe, MON, hereby formally notify Fusengbuwa Ruling House of my intention to be considered for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland, subject to the provisions of Ijebu Customary Law and Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.

“I was born on March 3, 1957, and I am a bona fide son of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Agunsebi Quarters, tracing my ancestry to Oba Jadiara lineage, which qualifies me to present myself for consideration in accordance with established tradition.

“I have devoted over five decades to the promotion of Ijebu, Yoruba and Nigerian culture through music and cultural enterprise.”

Reacting in the now-viral video on his YouTube page, KWAM 1 said: “Those who gave birth to me know me, and I also know them. There’s no side for petty talks. I’m from a royal lineage.

“I’m from Fidipote Ruling House. I’m also from Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode. So, whoever wants to question me, we’ll meet on the field. If it is because of my declaration for the throne, it is my right. You can’t silence me.

“Before the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, passed on, he was of sound mind. He was well lettered, learned and intelligent. He did all findings and investigations well.

“If I’m not from a royal lineage, I wouldn’t have be installed as the Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu in 2023 by the late Awujale.

“From both my maternal and paternal sides, i.e. my father’s father and my mother’s father, they are kings. I have right to the Awujale stool.

“To all Ijebu people, the matter on ground does not call for fight. When a good thing is to happen to someone, it first comes with controversies. God will reveal the truth to us all.

“We are all from royal lineage, and there are many princes. Anyone who eventually emerges, we’ll all work together in unity. We are all concerned about the development of Ijebu land. If I’m not capable, the late Awujale wouldn’t confer on me the Olori Omo-Oba title.

KWAM1 joins race to become next Awujale of Ijebuland

Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1, has formally indicated interest in the prestigious Awujale stool—this time not as a descendant of the Fidipote Ruling House with which he is widely associated, but as a claimant from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode.

The Olori Ebi of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, confirmed to The Nation yesterday that the musician submitted a letter expressing his intention to vie for the throne.

“Yes, he wrote a letter to me which was delivered around 2 p.m. yesterday (Thursday),” Owoyemi said. “There was no name, address, or phone number on the paper. But I replied to him after obtaining his WhatsApp number from those who brought the letter on his behalf.”

Owoyemi stated that although the collection of nomination forms, which opened on July 15, closed on December 6, Ayinde was granted special consideration and given an additional three working days to obtain and submit the form, with a new deadline of December 10.

However, the Olori Ebi emphasized that Ayinde must first establish proof of belonging to the Fusengbuwa lineage.

“Every legitimate member of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House must complete a lineage data form, duly signed by the Head of the Royal Family, and send it to me,” he explained. “It is only after we verify the accuracy of the information that we can take action and register that person.”

Owoyemi added that while his response had been communicated to Ayinde, no reply had been received from him as of yesterday.

He said the Fuji maestro has up till December 10 to respond and return his nomination form.

“We only allowed him that special consideration. I do not know his family lineage. So, I can’t say anything now until we receive his formal letter and nomination form duly signed by his Olori Ebi on his letterhead paper clarifying that he is from the whichever lineage he claims,” clarified Owoyemi.

The stool of the Awujale, one of the most revered traditional thrones in Yorubaland, became open following the recent passage of Oba Sikiru Adetona.

KWAM1’s ambassador role voluntary – Keyamo

Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo has clarified that Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, aka KWAM 1, will not receive payment for his role as ambassador for airport security protocol.

Keyamo explained that the position is akin to community service, a voluntary and unpaid role aimed at promoting good behavior in airports.

This decision came after KWAM 1’s controversial incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where he attempted to block a moving aircraft and allegedly assaulted an airport official.

Following public backlash and subsequent apologies from KWAM 1, the minister reviewed the sanctions, reducing his flight ban to one month and withdrawing criminal complaints.

The appointment has sparked debate, particularly in comparison to the handling of another passenger, Comfort Emmanson, who faced legal action for unruly behavior on an Ibom Air flight.

Keyamo emphasised that the government’s decisions were made on compassionate grounds, while stressing the importance of adhering to laws and regulations.

He wrote on X: “For further clarification, it is common practice all over the world that a repentant offender is made to preach publicly against the exact conduct from which he has repented. It is akin to Community Service. It is not paid for and it is voluntary service.

“Unfortunately, in Nigeria, some would assume that once you hear the word ‘Ambassador’ it is a big position that comes with the perquisites of office. No, it is not. It is for free. It is not the first time it is happening in Nigeria and it will not be the last . Examples abound of such roles given to repentant persons by previous governments in Nigeria.

“Whilst the Aviation agencies are considering using KWAM 1 for such a role, in my discussion last night with the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), they are also looking at the option of using Ms. Comfort Emmanson, who has also shown remorse, as their own Ambassador for good passenger conduct. It is left for the AON to work out those details since she has been actually released from prison custody today based on my earlier statement.

“Whilst the usual suspects can continue to question our decisions on this issue, we firmly believe we have been fair to all”.

BREAKING: FG withdraws criminal complaints against KWAM1, Emmanson

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo has withdrawn criminal charges against musician KWAM I and female passenger Ms. Comfort Emmanson, citing wide  consultations with critical industry stakeholders.

Keyamo said recent events in the industry concerning unruly behaviour of certain individuals are unfortunate, regrettably, the minister declared that valuable lessons have been learnt by all sides to these incidents and airport security protocols.

Keyamo said the lessons have been well highlighted for the travelling public.

He said :” If nothing at all, the episodes have undoubtedly helped to raise public awareness about appropriate conduct within the aviation space.

“As highlighted in my previous statements on the last two incidents, clear wrongs were committed by both the offending passengers and staff of the airlines involved from all the evidence available to us and those available to the public.

“It is clear that all the actors involved cannot continue to highlight the injury or injustice done to them without acknowledging their own equal culpability.

“Therefore, after reviewing the entire incidents, including appeals made by well-meaning individuals and remorse shown by the actors.

“Therefore, after reviewing the entire incidents, the following decisions have been reached: including withdrawal of complaint against

Ms. Comfort Emmanson, after conferring  with Ibom Airline.

” When the police took her Statement in presence of her lawyer, she exhibited great remorse for her conduct.

” Subsequent to the withdrawal of the complaint by the Complainant, the CP of Airport Command and the Police Prosecutor will immediately take the remaining steps to facilitate her release from Kirikiri Prisons within this week.

” I have also conferred with the leadership of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and have appealed to them to lift the life-time flying ban imposed on her, to which they agreed. The details of the resolution will be made public by the AON subsequently.”

On the matter of KWAM 1, the Minister said : ” The  NCAA is to reduce his flight ban to a one-month period. FAAN will also work with the music star with a view to engaging him as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol going forward.

” Having publicly demonstrated penitence, the NCAA is also to withdraw its criminal complaints against KWAM 1 earlier lodged with the Police.

“In the case of Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba of VALUEJET, the NCAA is to restore their licenses after the same period of one-month ban after undergoing some mandatory professional re-appraisal. The details will be announced by the NCAA.

” I have directed all relevant Aviation agencies in collaboration with other complementary agencies outside aviation to IMMEDIATELY begin a retreat NEXT WEEK to properly retrain and prepare our Aviation security personnel on how to deal with errant and disruptive passengers and how to deescalate potentially explosive situations. The retreat will be fully covered by the Press with the opportunity to ask all the relevant questions.

“The Airlines will also have their own session when the conduct and attitude of their staff towards members of the travelling public will be in full focus.

” These above decisions were taken by Government and the airline operators purely on COMPASSIONATE grounds as Government will never pander to base sentiments, politically-motivated views or warped legal opinions when clear encroachment of our laws are involved.

“We are also sending a CLEAR MESSAGE that we take safety and security in the aviation sector very seriously and we have decided to draw a line after these clemencies. “

Kwam 1 was recently placed on a six-month no-fly list by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, following an incident where he allegedly brought alcohol on board a ValueJet Airlines flight from Abuja to Lagos, sparking an altercation with a flight attendant.
