    Kwara Assembly passes N161b budget

    The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday passed the N161 billion 2017 Appropriation Bill into law.
    The legislature increased the bill by about N26 billion, representing 18.95 per cent of the original estimate of N135,264,529,461 billion.
    It however, reduced its own allocation by N146.746 million.
    At yesterday’s plenary, Speaker Ali Ahmad said the budget was increased to N161 billion to cater for N90 billion capital expenditure and N70 billion recurrent expenditure.
    Ahmad thanked the people for supporting the government of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and assured them of government’s readiness to improve their lot.

  • Kwara Assembly summons MTN over mast installation

    The Kwara State House of Assembly on Monday summoned the management of MTN Nigeria over alleged “wrong installation’’ of mast at Budo Egba area of Ilorin.

    The summon was sequel to a complaint filed by a resident before the House Committee on Public Petitions.

    The committee’s chairman, Alhaji Adeayo Mohammed, said the petition was filed by Chief Oladele Olanrewaju, through his counsel, Mr. Teju Oguntoye.

    According to him the petitioner claimed that the installation of the mast was causing environmental hazard to residents.

    Mohammed said the committee would investigate the matter thoroughly and directed MTN management in the state and other stakeholders to appear before the committee on March 3.

    Kwara Assembly unveils 10 commissioner-nominees

    The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday unveiled the names of 10 commissioner-nominees.

    Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed last week sent the nominees’ names to the Assembly for confirmation.

    They are Musa Yeketi (Asa Local Government), Idris Garba (Baruteen), Taiwo Joseph (Ekiti), Aro Yahaya (Ifelodun), Rasaq Sheu Akorede (Ilorin East) and Bolakale Ayo (Ilorin West).

    Others are Demola Banu (Irepodun), Hajia Funmilayo Isiaka Oniwa (Moro) and Mahmud Babatunde Ajeigbe (Offa).

    The Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad, directed the nominees to appear before the House for screening next Tuesday at 10am.

    Ahmad later constituted a five-man ad-hoc committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Mathew Okedare, to carry out an interactive pre-screening for the nominees.

    He said the Assembly would perform its duties without fear or favour.

    Dr. Ahmad urged the public to forward their queries, questions and petitions, if any, to the Clerk, Mr. Simon Ayodele Okedare, on or before October 18.

    The House yesterday confirmed the appointment of the new Clerk, Okedare, following the retirement of Mr. Ayotunde Olaitan Oyeniyi after 35 years in service.
