    LA Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in Ikegun village, Ibeju council area of Lagos State, has always been noted for innovation in its efforts to give visitors a memorable experience.

    Growing Nigeria’s tourism sector need stakeholders collaboration – Experts

    Experts in the travel and tourism industry have stated that cooperation among the major stakeholders in the industry is the panacea for growth.

    This was stated at the recently concluded Tourism Summit which had the theme “Redefining the Roles of Industry Stakeholders in Shaping the 21st Century Travellers Experience”.

    The event was put together by Jumia Travel, Nigeria’s leading online travel agency.

    Speaking at the event, Ikechi Uko, CEO of Akwaaba International Trade Fair Market said government cannot single-handedly develop the multi-billion dollars industry.

    He therefore made a call to all stakeholders within the industry to collaborate for the country to attain its goal.

    Similarly, the managing director of Jumia Travel Nigeria, Kushal Dutta spoke on the potentials of the country’s tourism. In his remark, he enjoined all the key players in the industry to come together and support the government in building the sector. Kushal also pointed out that there are a lot of tourist destinations that people are choosing to spend their holiday in the country. He encouraged Nigerians to travel within Nigeria and explore the amazing tourist attractions in the country.

    “80% percent the travels within Nigeria is to Lagos and people are visiting places like Epe Resort, La Campagne, Whispering Palms; in Calabar, Obudu Mountain Resort is also a good tourism attraction but gets seasonal patronage. Outside Nigeria, people visit the likes of Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa, and Zanzibar,” he said.

    While commenting on the most popular locations that Nigerians are flying to, the representative of Kenya Airways who was also on the panel, Abiola Bakare revealed that Nigerians mostly travel to London and US, but not necessarily for leisure. He added: “There’s also a major preference for destinations in Dubai. However, the problem of the foreign exchange greatly affected the travel and tourism industry”.

    Also, popular travel blogger and founder of Social Prefect Tours, Chiamaka Obuekwe mentioned Ikogosi in Ekiti State and Olumo Rock in Abeokuta as some of the locations people are looking to travel to. “Ikogosi and Olumo rock have been the major tourist attractions because many want some kind of adventure. South West is beginning to enjoy tourism traffic because of the opportunities the region provided.”

    Chiamaka advised the Nigerian government to do a lot more in promoting tourism and destination sites in the country, adding that Zanzibar and South Africa are doing a good job in promoting the tourism in their countries.

    The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has honoured theLa Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort, Ikegun, Lagos.

    This was at the 2015 Commerce and Industry Awards  held at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

    The resort was honoured with the award of the best theme resort in Nigeria Reacting to the award, the head of the resort, OtunbaWanleAkinboboye

    said the awards and recognition coming two decades after the setting up of the African themed resort, was something to be proud of and celebrate as the Pan African theme and culture that he had laboured to promote and market has finally gained the much desired recognition by the people.

    Coming this far, he said, has not been an easy task as he had to endure different challenges but standing firm and focused on his belief as well as being consistent, factors which he said had helped in the realisation of the dream when he first step foot in the jungle of Ikegun Village as a 29 years old boy, brimming with energy and a vision to conquer the world with his love for His fatherland.

  • La Campagne boss honoured in Cote d’Ivoire

    The proprietor of La Campagne Tropicana Resort, Ikegun, Lagos, Otunba Wanle Akinboboye, was recently honoured in Cote d’Ivoire with a chieftaincy title, which comes with responsibility of superintending over 151 villages in the region de Marahoue.

    He was bestowed with the title of Chef Ole Tribu de Paouflor Izuerioula Region de Marahoue. This honour, which comes with great responsibility, is according to the people of the region, in recognition of his commitment to the development and promotion of the tourism industry with special reference to the promotion of African culture and tradition.

    With this title, Akinboboye now rules over 151 villages in the region as they head and he is expected to bring his wealth of experience and resources in administering and ordering the affairs of the villages. To this, a befitting palace has been built for him in the region through communal effort and he expected to reside there whenever he visits the country to carry out his traditional duties.

    His inauguration ceremony as chief was held some months ago, but he couldn’t attend the ceremony due to the restriction on flight operations from Nigeria to Cote d’ Ivoire by the country due to Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), which then break out in Nigeria.

    However, two representatives of the paramount ruler of the region were in Nigeria recently to formally present the title to him and decorate him with the paraphernalia and symbol of the office. The event took place at Idanre town and it turned out to be a communal feasting with the whole town and traditional rulers in attendance as well the government of Ondo State.

    In conferring the title on him, Dr. Youan Tra Jerome, who was accompanied to the event and assisted by John Ajala, described Akinboboye who is also the tourism ambassador of the World Conference of Mayors (WCM) as a very pragmatic person, a tourism icon and devoted promoter and investor in the preservation of African cultural heritage and traditions.

    Jerome, who is also a chief back in his region, said it is an historic feat as this would be the time that his region is bestowing such an honour and responsibility on someone from outside the region or country. He said Akinboboye is an inspiration to the people, especially the youth and expressed the hope that the honour would further boast his commitment to the continent and that his community looks to benefiting from his experience, wise counsel and resources in the days ahead.

    In his response, Akinboboye expressed appreciation to the paramount ruler of the region and his people for the honour, describing it as recognition of his contributions to the development of the continent. The fact that it is coming from outside Nigeria, he said made it all the more special.

    Akinboboye said he is elated by the symbolism of the honour, which he said represent a great leap in the development of the continent as it is a bridge between the Anglophone and Francophone regions of Africa, stressing that he hopes to further cement this relationship through his new office and continued commitment to African culture.

    LA Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort has been voted the best beach resort in West Africa by the general public and operators in the tourism industry across Africa. The award was part of the highlight of activities during the recently concluded 10th edition of Akwaaba, a travel and tourism trade exhibition held in Lagos, Nigeria.

    Receiving the award at the event, the president of La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort, Wanle Akinboboye, thanked the organisers of Akwaaba and the public for the award, insisting that it was in recognition of the excellent service culture, quality product and devotion to the promotion of Africa culture and heritage by the resort.

    He further pledged the commitment of the resort managers to building on the gains of the resort and that the general public and travel operators’ confidence in the product would not be compromised even as he called for continued patronage of the resort in its effort at entrenching its presence in the industry and across the continent.

    The Africa travel award by Akwaaba is in recognition of the innovative and excellent services and products offered by various organsiations and operators in the industry. About 15 organisations and individuals in different categories were honoured on the night.

  • La Campagne Tropicana forges ahead

    La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort, Nigeria’s premier seaside hospitality and leisure property, is celebrating the successful connection of the resort to the national grid, ten years after it began operation.

    Located at Ikegun Village in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State, the resort was hooked to Power Holding Company of Nigeria [PHCN] January 4.

    Mr. Wanle Akinboboye, founder of the resort, said that though public power supply is erratic across the country, the few hours that the facility would enjoy power would save the resort a lot of resources.

    He noted that running on generators since he began operations had been tough, with over 30 per cent of the profit going to diesel and maintenance of generators.

    According to him, savings following the connection to PHCN would be channelled to upgrading facilities as well as hiring more workers, thus perpetuating one of the aims of the resort- providing jobs and opportunities for the surrounding communities.

    Akinboboye praised PHCN officials for their efforts and promised to have a good working relationship with them in ensuring proper maintenance of the transformer as well as their powerlines for power supply to the resort.

    The resort currently provides over 150 full time and part time jobs for the host communities.

    La Campagne Tropicana Resort has over 100 rooms in various categories and has grown to become the most visited seaside resort in the country for Nigerians and the large expatriate community.
