    Barcelona to report Malaga president’s offensive tweet

    Spanish giantswill report Malaga president Abdullah Al-Thani to the nation’s football governing body and La Liga authorities over comments he made about the club on social media.

    The league leaders said on Friday that Al-Thani reportedly made offensive remarks about Barcelona on Twitter after a fan asked about Malaga’s upcoming game against title contenders Real Madrid.

    Barcelona expressed its “rejection and indignation” of the tweet which, the club said, “infringes upon the principles of fair play, and the ethical and legal precepts that must govern sporting competition.”

    “The Club, therefore, will report this case to the National Sports Council’s Anti-Violence Committee, and will bring the matter before the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s Competition Committee, as well as the Department of Integrity of La Liga.”

    Barcelona are top of the league table, level on points with rivals Real Madrid, having played one game more.

    “Focusing on the need to ensure that Nigerian supporters of these clubs, and fans of the brand enjoy the latest season’s kit, adidas recently shipped in its latest stock to meet the growing demand for the product in Nigeria.

  • La Liga announces NPFL All-Stars full fixtures in Spain

    La Liga have released fixtures, time and venue of the NPFL All-Stars tour of Spain which shows that their first match against La Liga side, Valencia CF will be staged the Alzira Stadium in the city of Valencia.

     The match will be played on August 10 with kick-off slated for 9.30 pm Spanish time.

     The NPFL All-Stars team will then join the Trofoe Carranza tournament in Cadiz with their first match against UEFA Champions League and La Liga runners-up Atletico Madrid on August 12 at 6.30 pm Spanish time.

     The next fixture of the NPFL All-Stars in the Carranza tournament is against Malaga CF three hours after the tie against Atletico Madrid on the same August 12.

     Should the NPFL All-Stars make it beyond the group stage, then they will play a in the finals and should they lose in the group stage, they will also play against the other losers.

     All the post-group stage matches will hold on August 13.

    NLO chiefs to meet La Liga officials in Dubai

    In its quest to entrench good organisation in the lowest tier of the nation’s football leagues, through synergy with established leagues across the globe, the Chairman of the Nationwide League One, Ahmad Kawu is set to lead a four man team to Dubai to meet with officials of Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional.

    The team ,which also includes the Executive Secretary of NLO,  Olushola Ogunnowo,  Yarma Farouk and Marinze Cassandra Ijeoma will depart  on  October 18f or a meeting scheduled for Monday 12:00 am in Dubai.

    Ogunnowo said that the aim of the visit is to discuss ways and modalities to find the synergy between the NLO and the LaLiga. However, the NLO team will meet with Fernando Sanz Duran, General Director (Middle East and North Africa for LaLiga) and his team in their office in Dubai.

    “We (the Board and Secretariat of NLO) are doing everything possible within our reach to truly develop Nationwide League One in order for us to meet up with the global standard.”

    As predicted by SL10.ng Flying Eagles striker Isaac Success was in  good form for the B team of La Liga side Granada, campaigning in the third division of Spanish football league, which has earned him a recall to the main team ahead of the trip to Levante this week.

    Smarting from scoring five goals in five games for the B team, the 19-year old Nigerian was among three new faces that had a work out with the main team yesterday, including returning Eddy and Rueben Rochina who are working their way back into full match fitness.

    Success scored just once for Granada in the La Liga from the 15 games he played with the first team but his last competitive action for the team was on January 18 where he came in as a substitute for Robert Ibanez in the 78th minute.

    He hopes to be picked for the first time by new manager Abel Resino, who replaced Joaquin Caparros in January as Granada aim to pick up three points against fellow relegation battlers Levante, who are expected to parade Uche Kalu.

    Out of favour Super Eagles striker Ikechukwu Uche is the big inclusion in Villarreal’s squad to take on Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Europa League on Thursday.

    Uche has been out injured since the 24th of August 2014 when he picked up a knock in Villarreal’s opening season game, when they defeated Levante a 2-0.

    He opened his goal account in that game but subsequently missed the rest of the team’s next two games in the La-Liga.

    His return will boost Villareal’s attacking option as they open their campaign in Germany.

    Last season he was top scorer for the Yellow Submarines scoring 14 times in 30 games.

    Barcelona vs Villarreal: Ike Uche targets personal record

    Ikechukwu Uche continued his rich vein of form in the Spanish La Liga, finding the back of the net as Villarreal defeated Levante 2-0 in the first round of games held on Sunday.

    It is worthy of note that the attacker’s 56th minute strike at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia was the first time ever he has hit target on the opening day of the season since his La Liga debut in the colours of Recreativo Huelva.

    Also, the Nigeria international has netted in each of his last three topflight games, matching his best scoring streak in the league which he set last season.

    Should Ikechukwu Uche score this coming weekend against Barcelona, he will set a personal record of notching in four games on the bounce.

    Uche was the top goalscorer for Villarreal last term with 14 strikes in 30 matches.

    He has not dressed for the National Team since the 2013 African Cup of Nations, tasting action for 53 minutes in the final match against Burkina Faso to be specific.

    The former Getafe and Recreativo Huelva ace is not one of the 23 players invited by Stephen Keshi to for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo and South Africa next month.

    Nigerian midfielder, Ramon Azeez, has set a personal target of 10 goals in La Liga this season as his club Almeria battle to stay up.

    The former U-20 captain said he was thrilled to net his first-ever La Liga goal last weekend to earn his team a crucial away win at bottom club Real Betis.

    “I am happy to score the goal that gave us victory against Betis,” said the 21-year-old player, who has represented Nigeria U-17 and U-20 levels. My target is to score 10 goals for my team this season.”

    Almeria have now climbed to 16th on the table with 16 points from 17 matches, a point above the drop zone.

    Ex-Nigeria U-17 star, Macauley Chrisantus, has said he hopes to fire Las Palmas to La Liga on Saturday.

    Las Palmas was held to a 1-1 draw by Almeria in the first leg on Wednesday, and a win on Saturday means that Palmas will play the final game against either Girona or Alcorcon for the final play-off round to decide the promotion ticket.

    The striker, who has been enjoying a good spell at the Estadio de Gran Canaria having scored 11 goals during the regular season in the Spanish Segunda division, said he is ready for battle against Almeria.

    “Well, the battle just began after our home draw against Almeria, and I think we still have unfinished business, but we will have to be at our best to get a better result on Saturday.” Chrisantus told MTNFootball.com

    “I have friends playing in La Liga, and it will be sweet playing there with Las Palmas next season.

    “As far I am concerned, the battle is not over for us, and beating Almeria at their own ground will booster our quest to play in La Liga.”

    He added: “I don’t want to be too boastful, but I believe in God because with him, everything is possible, though we must also work towards success.

    “On a personal note, this is my club, I am happy with the atmosphere and that has been the secret of my form so far, but lifting Las Palmas to La Liga is my priority for now.”

    Elche and Villarreal have already won promotion to the La Liga from the second division.

    IK Uche’s Villareal returns to La Liga

    Nigeria international striker, Ike Uche, has returned to play in the Spanish top flight with Villarreal.

    Villarreal beat Almeria 1-0 on Sunday to record 74 points and finish second behind second division champions Elche to make an instant return to La Liga after its relegation the previous season.

    Uche scored 14 goals to finish as his club’s top scorer in their successful campaign to return to the top flight, MTNFootball.com reports.

    The 29-year-old striker has played in La Liga with Zaragoza, Getafe and Granada, where he was on loan from Villarreal.

    Almeria, who parade former Nigeria U-20 skipper Ramon Azeez, and Las Palmas, who has Macauley Chrisantus, will play off for the final promotion slot from the Spanish Segunda Division.
