    Lagos traders urged to serve God in truth

    Traders at the Ladipo Market, Mushin, Lagos have been urged to serve God in truth.

     An itinerary  evangelist, Pastor Patt Anyaere gave the advice during the end of year party of Akinwunmi Traders Association, a unit of Ladipo Auto Spare Parts Market.

    He said it was good for Christians to show their identity by working for God. He cited the second leader of the Israelites, Joshua, who vowed to serve God wholeheartedly with his family, saying the great man’s life should be an example to all.

    The cleric, who said he had spent 30 years working for God, alongside his trading in the same market, submitted that there is reward for those who served God well.

    He warned them against being involved in untoward deals, saying it is a sin to do so.

    He thanked God for sparing their lives in the outgoing year, saying that a great year awaited them in 2026.

    The multimillion Ladipo Automobile Spare parts market in Mushin, Lagos, has held its quarterly sanitation with a call for cleanliness.

    During the exercise, as usual, the leaders of the market shut their members’ shops for six hours from 7 am to ensure full compliance by traders. non-compliance attracts sanctions.

    The traders, as well as sanitation workers, worked hard to clean every nook and cranny of the market. On hand to move the debris to designated spots in the state were officials of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA), who ensured that the refuse was left unattended to and ended up littering their environment, thereby leading to a waste of their efforts.

    The President-General, Ladipo Central Executive Committee of Auto Dealers Association (LACEC), Africanus Ogudoro, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of this edition of the programme held every three months. He said the market’s executive fixed a separate day for the cleaning of the market, apart from one ordered by the government on Thursday every week because they want the market to be very clean.

    He affirmed that gone were the days when Ladipo market was referred to as a dirty market, adding one of the executives’ focal area is cleanliness, noting that cleanliness is next to godliness. He also said no customer would do business in a dirty environment.

    He thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Mushin Local Government for harping on clean environment. He pledged the market’s support to the government’s policies aimed at making the state a cleaner and better place.

    Also, the market’s Environmental Sanitation, Mazi Nonso Chuifo, praised his colleagues for their performance, adding that there were no plans to stop the programme.

    He urged them not to rest on their oars to keep the market continually clean.

    Specifically, he thanked LAWMA officials for being alive to their responsibility.

    The largest automobile market in West Africa based in Ladipo, Mushin, Lagos yesterday held its first environmental sanitation in the year.

    During the exercise ordered by the market executives, the shops were shut for five hours to enable every unit and warehouse to take part in the cleaning.

    President-General of the  Ladipo Market Central Executive Auto Dealers Association, Prince Africanus Ogudoro, said  though they observe sanitation quarterly, they had to change the order this year to give room for more cleaning.

    He said: “Some months back, we used to observe it quarterly on every Friday. But you

    know as they say the only thing that is constant in life is change. So, this one changed and we believe that it changed for the better. “As you can see, all members, the task force, everybody is taking part in the cleaning. As they say that cleanliness is next to godliness.”

    He expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance by the traders, adding that they did a good job.

    “We have done massively well. We have cleaned the nooks and crannies of Ladipo Market. And as you can see, no dumping of refuse anywhere.

    He also thanked the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) officials for being on top of their game. Starting from the previous night, all bins were lifted and cleared, “so no refuse around Ladipo Market”.

    “The whole of Ladipo Market is clean. And you know it’s a very good thing if the Ministry of Environment, Lagos State Government can send anybody to come down and

    see what we’ve done today. It’s awesome.

    Besides the cleaning, the president-general said the traders had an orientation on cleanliness

    to change their attitude, assuring that no one dumps refuse anyhow in the market.

    He used the opportunity to ask the state government to provide a pedestrian bridge at Toyota Bu stop to enable traders to cross the expressway effortlessly and reduce the number of accidents caused by speeding motorists.

    He advised the traders to imbibe the virtues of good cleaning either in the market or at home.

    Chairman of the market’s Sanitation Committee, Mr. Nonso Chuifo, said the objective is to keep the market clean always.

    To do this. he said they introduced the sanitation day in addition to the one ordered by the government on Thursdays.

    Also, he said: “We wanted to do this cleaning before Easter.’’ He thanked the traders for their obedience and understanding in leaving business to obey the clarion call for cleaning.’’

    Honoured too were former market presidents-general, Kingsley Ogunor, Jude Nwankwo, Humphrey Obiwuru, Ikechukwu Animalu.

    The President-General of Ladipo Auto Spare Parts Market in Mushin LGA, Lagos State, Prince Africanus Ogudoro, received an award of excellence from the Akinwunmi Traders Association during their end-of-year celebration.

    Also recognized were former presidents-general of the market, including Kingsley Ogunor, Jude Nwankwo, Humphrey Obiwuru, and Ikechukwu Animalu. 

    Other honorees included the market’s Babaloja, Eze Monday Lawrence, and Raymond Okeke.

    The awards, presented amidst applause and glowing tributes, highlighted the recipients’ dedication to duty and contributions to transforming the market into a multi-million naira enterprise. 

    The Chairman of Akinwunmi Traders Association, Onyekachukwu Igwe, praised the leaders for their exceptional service and leadership skills, noting that managing the market’s vast operations required great expertise.

    Igwe explained that the event marked the first time the market section was honoring its leaders, emphasizing that the awardees were chosen based on merit and their outstanding performance during their tenures.

    The party also allowed traders to celebrate a year of hard work. Igwe urged members to fear God and conduct their business dealings with integrity.

    In their appreciation speeches, the honorees made generous donations to the association. 

    Ogudoro expressed gratitude for the unexpected recognition, pledging to continue serving diligently and urging members to support their chairman for continued progress.

    Guest preacher Pastor Patrick Aliene, speaking on the theme “Do the Right Thing,” encouraged traders to uphold godly values in their lives and businesses. 

    He reminded them that actions, whether good or bad, would eventually be accounted for and urged them to embrace Christ for a fulfilling life.

    Ladipo Automobile International Market, Mushin, Lagos State, at the weekend observed its last sanitation day for the year.

    During the exercise, which held between 7am and noon, all shops and warehouses were closed to ensure a success of the sanitation.

    President of the market association, Jude Nwankwo, said this was the fourth time they would be having the sanitation. It holds quarterly would be observed this year. He praised the traders and shop owners for their compliance to the order on the five-hour closure of the market.

    Nwankwo, who led the executives to monitor compliance, said it was a huge success. According to him, the market leaders have zero tolerance for dirt, the reason they introduced the quarterly sanitation in addition to the one enforced by the government every Thursday. He assured the government of their cooperation in cleanliness, noting that cleanliness is next to godliness.

    Chairman of the Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation, Nonso Chuifo, who described the day as ‘special’, also expressed satisfaction with the sanitation. He thanked the traders for their obedience. On closure of the market by the  government for environmental infractions, Chuifo said there are plans to nip it in the bud in future.

    General Secretary, Africanus Ogudoro, said the exercise was continuous in tandem with their  objective to make the market clean as encaspsulated in Governor Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES Agenda.

    Praising Sanwo-Olu for doing a good job, he said the market’s association would continue to partner him for good governance.

    He however tasked the governor on the excessive taxes on markets and traders, urging him to reduce it to keep their business afloat.

    Lagos reopens Ladipo Market

    Lagos State Government has reopened Ladipo Market, Mushin, after meeting the most essential criteria set for reopening of sealed markets.

    Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, said business activities would begin at the popular spare parts market, after its recent closure for various environmental infractions.

    He noted that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu prioritised clean environment, public health and safety, in line with the THEMES Plus agenda, which informed the recent drive to enforce strict compliance with waste management best practice across markets in the state.

    The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to environmental sustainability and public safety, particularly within markets and around business facilities, stressing that the  goal was to ensure all markets in Lagos State followed laid down environmental rules, resulting in a safer and healthier business environment for buyers and sellers.

    Gbadegesin urged the traders to support the efforts of the state government, by adhering  to the environmental laws, as markets that fell foul risked closure indefinite closure

  • LAWMA threatens to shut Ladipo market

    The  Ladipo Auto-parts Market in Mushin, may be shut  till further notice because of its dirty environment, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has warned.

    Spokesman Obinna Onyenali said the authority’s attention had been drawn to the unwholesome environmental practices by the traders.

    Such practices, he said, had resulted in indiscriminate dumping of waste and degradation of the environment.

    Onyenali said the authority was doing everything to ensure that trading was conducted in a clean and safe environment.

    LAWMA’s trucks, he said, were being deployed for timely  waste evacuation and sweeping of the markets.

    “However, these efforts are being tainted by the activities of mischievous persons who will rather dump their waste indiscriminately on the roads than patronise their assigned Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators.

    “LAWMA condemns in strongest terms this unwholesome act being perpetrated by traders at Ladipo Market, as it exposes the environment and people that do business there to health dangers.

    “The authority takes this opportunity to urge traders at the market to turn a new leaf or face the consequences of the law.

    “If these acts against the environment continue unabated, the market will be shut till further notice,” Onyenali said in a statement.

  • We may shut Ladipo Market over waste management – LAWMA

    The Lagos Waste Management Authority ( LAWMA ) said on Friday that it might close Ladipo Market in Mushin, till further notice, if the waste situation continued unabated.

    LAWMA’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Obinna Onyenali, said that the attention of the authority had been drawn to the unwholesome environmental practices being carried out by traders at the Ladipo Market.

    Onyenali said that such practices had resulted to indiscriminate dumping of waste and degradation of the environment.

    He said that the authority had, in recent times, doubled its efforts to ensure that business transactions in all Lagos markets were conducted in a clean and safe environment.

    According to him, the authority has doubled its efforts through timely deployment of trucks for waste evacuation and sweeping of the markets.

    “However, these efforts are being tainted by the activities of mischievous persons who would rather dump their waste indiscriminately on the roads than patronise their assigned Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators.

    “LAWMA condemns in strongest terms this unwholesome act, being perpetuated by the traders of Ladipo Market, as it exposes the environment and the people that do business there to various health dangers.

    “The authority seizes this opportunity to urge the merchants at the market to turn a new leaf or face the consequences of the Law.

    “If these heinous acts against the environment continue unabated, the market will be shut till further notice, ‘’ he said in a statement.

    Onyenali said that LAWMA wanted all markets to comply with the Environmental Laws of the state, which was essential for building a cleaner and healthier environment that everyone would be proud of.

    “The Authority appeals to all residents in the state to always imbibe the habit of effective waste management by bagging their waste for easy evacuation by their assigned PSPs,’’ he said.

  • Five charged with breach of the peace at Ladipo market

    Five persons were yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, for alleged breach of peace and theft of property and cash valued N1.1million at Ladipo Market.

    Four of them Kingsley Ike Ogunor, 50, Ukpabia Raymond, 56, Steve Ijeoma Paul, 53, and Onyeka Igwe, 41, were present in court for their re-arraignment before Chief Magistrate F.F. George.

    The fifth defendant, Chidi Ebere Obi, 38, was absent.

    According to the charge No P/20/2017, the five and others at large on March 18 at about 1pm at Ladipo Market conspired to commit felony to wit: threatening violence, malicious damage, assault occasioning harm, grievous harm, wounding, stealing and conduct likely to cause the breach of the peace and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

    They were also alleged to have threatened violence with intent to intimidate Monday Lawrence and other traders of Laipo Market, wilfully damaged the shop office and wine of Mrs Tolulope Obi, unlawfully assaulted Tolulope Obi, Emeka Ite Una and Peter Nwou, causing them bodily harm and inflicting permanent bodily wound on Peter Nwosu and Emeka Ite Una on April 2, 2016 and December 22, 2016.

    The defendants were also alleged to have stolen wines, set of gold jewellery and other valuables valued N358,500 and N785,000 cash, totalling N1,143,500, property of Mrs Obi. They were said to have conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace of Ladipo Market, through bloodletting.

    The defendants pleaded not guilty.

    Their counsel, Mr. O. Okiigbe apologised to the court on behalf of the absent Obi.

    He told the court that Obi was ill. He pleaded for bail for the other. On same terms as that of another magistrate before who they were earlier arraigned.

    Prosecuting police Inspector Haruna Ibrahim urged the court to issue a bench warrant for Obi’s arrest.

    He argued that there was no evidence of Obi’s illness before the court.

    Chief Magistrate George declined his request because Obi was not properly before her.

    She said until the accused personally appears to plead to charge it would not be proper to order his arrest.

    She adjourned till June 29.
