    Lafarge Africa to train 1,000 PWDs

    Lafarge Africa Plc, a building solutions company renowned for creating a greener planet through innovation and operational excellence, has commemorated International Day of Persons with Disabilities  with the participants of its Disability-to-Ability (D2A) Programme.

    It was in partnership with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) and Tunde Onakoya,  Founder, Chess in Slums Africa, and Guinness World Record Holder for the longest marathon chess game.

    The D2A Programme, themed: “Ability Reimagined,” which kicked off  is designed to train 100 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and equip them with market-relevant vocational and entrepreneurial skills that open pathways to employment, business development, and long-term self-reliance. Participants will receive hands-on training in four key areas: Laptop and Phone Repairs, Make-Up and Gele, Wig and Braids Making, and Shoe and Bag Making.

    To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, the programme was implemented across two hubs; Ikeja (Lagos West) and Ikorodu (Lagos East), allowing beneficiaries from different parts of the state to participate fully.

    Speaking at the event, the Director of Communications, Public Affairs & Sustainable Development, Lafarge Africa Plc, Viola Graham-Douglas, described the initiative as a reflection of Lafarge’s commitment to inclusivity, empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods. She expressed her appreciation to the partners for championing inclusion and supporting the success of the programme.

    Graham-Douglas explained that beyond technical skills, the programme will expose participants to entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and mentorship sessions coordinated by LSETF, ensuring that beneficiaries are not only skilled but also ready to thrive as business owners or professionals in their chosen fields.

     “This programme is very important to us at Lafarge and underscores our commitment to our communities. We don’t just produce building solutions, we build society, homes, and empower people to be the best that they possibly can be”, she said.

     “Everyone has a right to dignity, to make a living, and we believe in real opportunities. A society is not governed by the policy, it is governed by people, committed people, people who really want to make a difference. We really want to make a difference in people’s lives and an inclusive society is one where everyone can make a living and give back in their own way,” she added.

    In his speech, the program partner, Tunde Onakoya lifted the spirits of the participants, citing his personal story and how playing chess and reading books gave him the opportunity to travel the world despite his condition. He charged the beneficiaries to believe in themselves and take utmost advantage of the Lafarge D2A programme as a valuable opportunity. He encouraged them to be diligent with their God-given skills and use them as a blessing to the world. He commended Lafarge for providing such an opportunity that empowers people living with disabilities.

    Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Mrs. Feyisayo Alayande, joined other key stakeholders at the event to engage the beneficiaries in a speed mentoring session.

    Also speaking, the General Manager, Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, who was represented by Dr Adekola Oluwafunmilayo, Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, LASODA emphasized that the responsibility of building an inclusive society does not lie with the government alone but  is a shared task that requires collaboration, compassion, and consistent effort from every stakeholder.

    She commended the partnership of Lafarge Africa Plc and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) for the impactful entrepreneurship training, which has over 100 beneficiaries. “By supporting business registration and providing starter toolkits at the end of the training, you are empowering these individuals to begin their entrepreneurial journeys with confidence and clarity. This is the kind of thoughtful support that truly transforms lives, and we at LASODA sincerely appreciate your commitment” she concluded.

    Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading innovative and sustainable building solutions company and manufacturers of a range of cement brands, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability demonstrated by the rehabilitation and preservation of a cultural and historical heritage – the Independence Memorial Obelisk at the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.

    The rehabilitation focused on structural strengthening, aesthetic renewal, accessibility upgrades, and restoration of symbolic carvings and historical inscriptions, while preserving the monument’s original design and significance.

    Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, the Group Managing Director/CEO of Lafarge Africa Plc, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, noted that the rehabilitation of the Independence Memorial Obelisk reflects the company’s contribution to Nigeria’s infrastructure renewal through sustainable building practices.

    Alade-Akinyemi explained that the project also demonstrates Lafarge’s commitment to sustainability, as the renovation incorporates the use of Ecoplanet Elephant, its eco-friendly cement solution that delivers structural durability with at least 30% fewer carbon emissions, underscoring the company’s ambition to build for the future without compromising environmental responsibility.

We are deeply honoured to play a role in preserving this national treasure.     Also speaking at the event, Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, noted that preserving historical assets like the Obelisk is essential to nurturing a culturally aware nation, particularly now that Nigeria is placing greater focus on the intersection of history, innovation, and sustainable development.

    Oduwole, commending Lafarge Africa for its commitment to safeguarding historical monuments while supporting national development, noted that, “Lafarge’s unwavering commitment to Nigeria is undeniable. The Obelisk stands as a powerful symbol of our nation’s hope and optimism. As Nigeria’s story continues to evolve and rise, we must all embrace the responsibility to build with intentionality, pride, and a deep respect for our heritage,” she said.

    In his speech, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu represented by the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts & Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, stated, “The Obelisk stands as a powerful symbol of heritage and sustained development—reflecting the strength of our diversity and the enduring hope of the Nigerian people. It embodies the values of unity, peace, progress, and nationhood, while enhancing cultural preservation and boosting tourism.

    In her remarks, the Managing Director, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lucia Shittu said, “The Obelisk, standing proudly within the 14.6-hectare expanse of Tafawa Balewa Square, is more than a monument, it is a living testament to Nigeria’s journey toward independence and democracy. As the site where the Union Jack was lowered, it holds deep historical significance and continues to inspire national pride and reflection.”

    Lafarge Africa grows net profit by 246% to N207.8b in nine months

    Lafarge Africa Plc recorded significant growths across key performance indicators in the third quarter, with net profit rising by 246 per cent to N207.8 billion within the period.

    Interim report and accounts of Lafarge Africa for the nine-month period ended September 30, 2025 showed that total revenue grew by 63 per cent from N479.49 billion in third quarter 2024 to N780.48 billion in third quarter 2025. Cost of sales increased from N241.73 billion to N324.36 billion. Administrative and selling expenses rose by 48 per cent from N109.74 billion to N162.03 billion. Net profit after tax rose from N60.08 billion in third quarter 2024 to N207.78 billion in third quarter 2025.

    Chief Executive Officer, Lafarge Africa Plc, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi said the company’s strong performance reflected higher sales volumes, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced currency stability.

    According to him, the nine-month results built on the momentum from previous quarters, with the latest results further highlighting the group’s cost discipline, strategic market positioning, and operational excellence.

    He pointed out that within the three-month period ended September 2025, the company specifically saw 43 per cent increase in sales, a double of 107 per cent growth in operating profit and net profit after tax of N75 billion.

    He said: “For the nine-month period, net sales and operating profit grew by 63 per cent and 129 per cent, respectively. These results reaffirm Lafarge Africa’s resilience, supported by sustained volume growth, efficiency gains, innovative products, and a relatively stable operating environment.

    “Our collaboration with Huaxin Cement Group enables us to deepen technical expertise, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen supply reliability. Huaxin’s 115-year global legacy in cement manufacturing is a major strategic advantage for Lafarge Africa”.

    Alade-Akinyemi said the company remains optimistic on future performance noting that the building materials segment is expected to maintain strong growth momentum through year-end.

    He said Lafarge Africa is committed to sustainability and would further deepen its footprint in the use of alternative fuel, Ecocrete and Ecopanet solutions to accelerate green growth in the Nigerian cement industry.

    He said: “Our focus remains on seizing emerging opportunities, driving sustainable growth, and delivering longterm value to all stakeholders”.

    He expressed appreciation to shareholders, customers, partners, and employees for their continued confidence and commitment, emphasising that their collective support has been instrumental to the company’s sustained growth.

    Lafarge Africa operates cement plants in Ewekoro and Sagamu, Ogun State; Ashaka, Gombe State, and Mfamosing in Cross River State, alongside Ready-Mix operations in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

    Lafarge Africa unveils low-carbon ready-mix concrete

    Lafarge Africa Plc has  launched EcoCrete, Nigeria’s first low-carbon ready-mix concrete. The innovative product was unveiled at the Lafarge’s Abuja Ready-Mix (RMX) plant.

    EcoCrete delivers a minimum of 20 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional CEM I concrete, without compromising on strength, durability, or performance.

    At the launch graced by industry regulators and key stakeholders, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa Plc stated that Lafarge’s Abuja Ready-Mix plant has now been converted to 100 per cent EcoCrete production, making a bold step in the company’s journey toward excellence, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

    “Over the last year, we have introduced products like Ecoplanet Elephant and Unicem cement, each one a step forward in our journey toward excellence, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

    Today, with the introduction of our low-carbon Readymix solution, EcoCrete, we take another bold step forward.

     “As part of the first phase of this ground-breaking rollout, which will enable the availability of the product, we have fully converted the Lafarge Abuja Ready-Mix (RMX) plant to 100% EcoCrete production. This is a demonstration of our commitment to scale sustainable solutions, to push the boundaries of what is possible in construction, and to align our business with the aspirations of our customers, our communities, and our planet. We are proud to be shaping an industry where growth and responsibility go hand in hand,” he stated.

    In his keynote address, Special Adviser to the Hon. Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy on Climate Finance & Green Growth, Temitope Akinyemi, commended Lafarge for leading sustainable innovation in the industry, stressing that the launch of EcoCrete aligns with Nigeria’s green growth strategy. He said: “The launch of this product today is very well aligned to Nigeria’s Green Growth Strategy, which prioritises both our developmental needs and our environmental responsibility. Lafarge Africa has once again demonstrated vision and leadership in pioneering EcoCrete, a next-generation innovation that delivers strength, durability and reliability that we all require, while reducing CO2 emissions.

     “Also, this aligns with our global climate commitments, and also Nigeria’s journey towards our next-gen economy. Today, as we launch EcoCrete, we also launch a bold message that Nigeria is ready to lead in sustainable construction, to innovate and to prove that economic growth and environmental stewardship can go hand-in-hand.”

    Speaking at the launch, Xu Gang, Vice President for International Business, Huaxin, said EcoCrete is a product of global expertise and local ambition, adding that the conversion of Abuja plant signifies Huaxin’s commitment to the Nigerian market. “Today’s milestone is a testament to what can be achieved when global expertise meets local ambition. To build the future, we need to decarbonize the construction industry, promote circular economy principles, and deliver products that meet the highest standards of performance and environmental responsibility.

     “At Huaxin, we believe that sustainability must be embedded in every stage of the value chain—from sourcing raw materials to production, distribution, and application. We are proud to see the Abuja Ready-Mix Plant fully converted to 100% EcoCrete production. It demonstrates our confidence in Nigeria’s construction sector and our commitment to supporting its growth in a responsible and resilient manner,” he said.

    Also speaking at the launch, Director General/Chief Executive Officer, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Prof Innocent Bariate Barikor, said the agency looks forward to collaborating with Lafarge on more sustainability initiatives. “NESREA congratulates Lafarge on the historic launch of EcoCrete, a groundbreaking innovation that showcases the company’s commitment to sustainability in construction solutions. This development aligns with our agency’s mandate to maximize natural resources, reduce environmental impacts, and promote resource efficiency.”

    “We commend Lafarge’s environmental stewardship and look forward to collaborative efforts that ensure EcoCrete’s safe and sustainable use across the industry. NESREA is excited to partner with Lafarge and other stakeholders to deliver immeasurable environmental and social benefits, supporting Nigeria’s national development goals and decarbonization agenda,” Barikor said.

    Lafarge Africa, innovative and sustainable building solutions firm and manufacturer of cement brands, has inaugurated the Freedom Plant, a ReadyMix facility in Lekki, Lagos.

     The launch represents another milestone in the company’s commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that power infrastructure development and economic growth.

    The facility is equipped with automated batching system that enables seamless remote data transfer and modification, with capability to manage and operate the plant from any location worldwide via secure Internet access.

    In alignment with Lafarge Africa’s sustainability agenda, the facility incorporates advanced features that enhance energy efficiency, minimise emissions, and integrate production of eco-friendly products and solutions.

     Mr. Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, group managing director, noted: “The launch further increases and strengthens our commitment to ‘Building Progress for People and the Planet.’ For us, this facility is not just about production, but about expanding frontiers of innovation and sustainability in our operations, meeting Nigeria’s demand locally, and empowering our people through job creation and skill development,” he said.

    Mr. Derek Williamson, head of Aggregates and ReadyMix, highlighted the strategic significance of the plant in strengthening the company’s footprint in Lagos. “This development complements our business extension strategy. Currently, we have footprints in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos,” he said.

    “With an increased capacity of three silos which allows the facility to hold sufficient cementitious material for more than two days, Freedom Plant will boost our production volumes, improve customer service, and ensure product availability to meet demand in Nigeria. It would also enable us to supply our EcoCrete material with the full range of ReadyMix products and Value Added Solutions in our portfolio,” he said.

    Located to serve the local market within a 5-kilometre radius, the Freedom Plant also provides operational support to Lafarge Africa’s existing facilities in Oniru and Lekki Phase 2. Together, these plants are designed to deliver more customer-focused solutions, a model that will be replicated as the company continues to expand its footprint across Lagos.

    The commissioning ceremony brought together government officials, customers, partners, employees, and other stakeholders, who gathered to celebrate the company’s continued leadership in sustainable building solutions.

    Lafarge Africa posts  N269b in Q2

    Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading innovative and sustainable building solutions company and producer of a range of cement brands, has recorded N268.63 billion  revenue from sales for the second quarter of this year.

    This revenue represents an increase of 70% from N157.80 billion that was recorded in the corresponding period in 2024.

    A breakdown analysis of the unaudited result revealed that operating profit for the company in the second quarter of the financial year also grew from N47.70 billion in the corresponding period in 2024 to N120.61 billion, representing a 153 % significant increase.

    The rise in operating profit was largely due to topline growth and operational efficiency of the company.

    According to the provisional results released by NGX, Profit After Tax for the second quarter rose by 248% from N24.16 billion in 2024 to N84.03 billion in the corresponding period in 2025. This rise could be attributed to strong Operational performance, relative stability of the naira with no significant FX losses.

    The Chief Executive Officer, Lafarge Africa, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, in a statement, explained that the exceptional performance recorded by the company in Q2 was driven by innovative product offerings, strategic operation and distribution efficiency.

    “Following our impressive Q1 results, Q2 performance showcases the strength of our team, market positioning, operational efficiency, cost management, and dedication to value creation.

     ‘’We achieved excellent financial results in Q2, with Net Sales growth of 70%, Operating Profit up 153%, and Profit After Tax growth of 248%.

    This strong performance closes H1 with a sales and operating profit growth of 75% and 144% respectively.

    This performance is driven by our innovative product offerings and strategic operational Initiatives,” Alade-Akinyemi said.

    He noted that the company remains mindful of the ever-evolving macroeconomic conditions, and is confident to continue to deliver value by focusing on its strategic priorities, while leveraging innovation and green growth, in line with its sustainability ambitions.

    “I am deeply grateful to our exceptional team, valued customers, and loyal stakeholders for their unwavering contributions and support of Lafarge Africa. Despite the challenging macroeconomic environment, your commitment continues to inspire us and strengthen our confidence in the future,” he added.

    He said that despite challenges posed by macroeconomic activities on purchasing power, the building industry is projected to sustain its growth trajectory with the company reaping the benefits.

    Commenting on projections for the second half of the year, he expressed optimism of a positive outlook, anticipating that the market will maintain a growth rate consistent with the trend from the first half of the year.

    “We will continue to capitalise on volume opportunities across our markets while diligently managing our costs. Our commitment to sustainability remains steadfast, as we pursue our strategy of ‘Accelerating Green Growth’ through innovative building solutions that enhance stakeholder value,” he said.

    To mark this year’s World Malaria Day, Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading innovative and sustainable building solutions company and manufacturer of a range of cement brands, has organized medical outreaches  across its host communities in Lagos, Mfamosing, Ewekoro, Ashaka, and Sagamu.

    The event was under the theme: “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite”.

    The medical outreach, which recorded a huge turnout across all host communities, was organized to raise awareness on malaria prevention and provide direct support through free testing, medication, and the distribution of insecticide-treated nets.

    In Lagos, the company partnered with Leadway Health at Oregun Flagship Primary Health Care Centre, Ikeja, Lagos State, where the Occupational Health Coordinator, Lafarge Africa Plc, Dr. Chimaobi Okoronkwo, emphasized the significance of proper malaria diagnosis and treatment.

    Dr. Okoronkwo, demonstrating the correct way to use insecticide-treated nets stressed that “nets are not for decorations but life-saving tools that must be used consistently, especially at night.”

    Reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting communities in their fight against malaria,

    Head, Sustainability and Sponsorships, Lafarge Africa Plc, Gabriel Pollyn, stated that the company remains dedicated to fostering a healthier, more sustainable future for all Nigerians by providing necessary support that would address pressing health issues such as malaria.

    Also speaking, during the outreach, the Community Health Officer, Oregun Flagship Primary Health Care Centre, Mrs. A.O Olaniyan explained that it has become imperative for stakeholders, healthcare professionals and individuals to give adequate attention to combating malaria stating everyone has a critical role to play in preventing the disease. Olaniyan shared key malaria prevention tips, including avoiding stagnant water and the use of mosquito nets. She urged individuals to seek proper medical care rather than self-medication.

    With healthcare as one of its pillars, this outreach by Lafarge Africa is one of its numerous initiatives to support the health and wellbeing of the members of its host communities across Nigeria.

    Lafarge Africa Plc recorded 837 per cent growth in net profit in the first quarter as record sales growth boosted the cement group’s net profit to N48.64 billion.

    Key extracts of the interim report and accounts of Lafarge Africa for the three-month period ended March 31, 2025 showed that sales revenue rose by 80 per cent to N248.35 billion in first quarter 2025 compared with N137.77 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2024. Operating profit doubled by 137 per cent from N30.24 billion in first quarter 2024 to N71.66 billion in first quarter 2025. After taxes, net profit jumped by 837 per cent from N5.19 billion in first quarter 2024 to N48.64 billion in first quarter 2025.

    Chief Executive Officer, Lafarge Africa, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said the strong performance recorded by the company was as a result of the introduction of new innovative products and operational excellence.

    “We achieved solid financial results in first quarter, a strong performance driven by our innovative product offerings and strategic operational Initiatives. This is further evidence of our strong market positioning, operational efficiency, cost management, and dedication to value creation,” Alade-Akinyemi said.

    He outlined that the launch of Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC) demonstrated the company’s innovation drive and greener planet ambition.

    He added that the forthcoming launch of the Elephant ECOPlanet product is aimed at significantly reducing its carbon footprint in the industry.

    He said: “Lafarge Africa continues to drive the usage of Calcined Clay, a low carbon raw material, in its cement manufacturing process, to further drive reduction of our CO2 emission and carbon footprint”.

    He assured that the company would remain resilient by leveraging innovation and green growth, in line with its sustainability ambitions, while also delivering continuous value to our stakeholders.

    He expressed appreciation to customers, and stakeholders, for their continued support despite the macroeconomic headwinds being experienced in the industry.

    Alade-Akinyemi reiterated the commitment of the company to strengthening its leadership position by offering environmentally friendly building solutions while driving long-term profitability.

    He affirmed that the company will continue to maximise volume opportunities across our markets and actively manage our costs while remaining committed to our sustainability ambitions and strategy of ‘Accelerating Green Growth’ through innovative building solutions and delivery of stakeholder value.

    In its quest to reward customer loyalty, Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading manufacturer of a range of cement brands, hosted its 2024 Customer & Transporter Awards in honour of the outstanding achievements of its esteemed trade partners and customers.

    The event, held in Lagos, brought together industry leaders, trade partners, and stakeholders to celebrate a year of remarkable excellence and to strengthen collaborations for future growth and success.

    Tagged, “Growing Beyond Limits,” the event demonstrates Lafarge Africa’s commitment to pushing boundaries, driving innovation, and reinforcing partnerships that contribute to the company’s success.

    In his welcome address, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, Group Managing Director/CEO, Lafarge Africa Plc, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the company’s partners.

    Also speaking at the event, the duo of Gbenga Onimowo, the Commercial Director, and Similarly, Osaze Aghatise, the Logistics Director, reiterated the company’s commitment towards delivering exceptional service.

    The evening concluded with the announcement of various award categories and their respective winners.

    The star prize for the national volume champion was presented to Etim Okon of Batoframoj E. Enterprises, who also received a brand new 2025 Toyota Prado just as Igwe Ezeumeh Cosmas Chizoba of C.C. Umeh & Sons Ltd, the 1st runner-up national volume award, carted home a 2025 Toyota Fortuner, while Elder Ubong Obot of Ubotex Nig. Ltd, the 2nd runner-up national volume award, was presented with a brand new 2025 Toyota RAV4.

    Besides, Prince Sunny Nwodo of Global SNCO (WA) Limited, Emeka Umeoduagu of U. Mekason Trading Stores, Alhaji Rasheed Olota of Global 50:50 Concept Nig. Ltd, Echezona Unegbe of Unegbe Ventures Ltd, Engr Emeka Azubike Odogo of Goldpine Integrated Services, Olufolake Agbaje of Maseliz Enterprises and Oduwole Aderonke of Vicross Enterprises were all recognised as national volume award winners

    Olayiwola Kazeem of Kaysky Nigeria Limited was honoured as the best overall transporter of the year. Julius Ben Construction and Abdlas Logistics Nigeria Limited were also recognised as regional transporter champions for the East and West regions, respectively.

    Speaking on the win, Etim Okon expressed heartfelt appreciation and how the award is also a reminder of their collaboration with the brand paying and he also mentioned looking forward to greater achievements with the brand.
