  • GLO LAFFTA FEST BRINGS KADUNA ALIVE

    CONTINUING in its tour of the country, comedy show, Glo Laffta Fest, made a stop at the Northern city of Kaduna, bringing with it all the thrills and glamour.

    Guests led by the former Governor of Kaduna State, the Dallatun Zazzau, stormed Castle Event Centre, venue of the show.

    Artistes who entertained the audience included Kaduna’s leading light in comedy, Saeed Muhammad, popularly known as Funky Mallam and comic stars such as I Go Dye, Gordons, Acapella, De Don and Senator.

    I Go Dye, Acapella, Senator and De Don were particularly exceptional on a night of uncommon laughter and merriment, conducted by some of the industry’s masters.

    De Don shared a funny story of his experience with a beggar in America when he last visited.

    I Go Dye touched on a variety of topics, including sharing his own perspective on why Nigerians are being deported from other countries. The reason, he jokingly opined, is to be found in the wording of the passport’s preface.

    To pep up the show, Kannywood star, Sani Danja, made an appearance, receiving a rousing reception. He was accompanied by Nollywood legend, Kanayo O. Kanayo and accomplished Nollywood comic, Victor Osuagwu.

    The delectable duo of Nollywood actresses, Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Uche Jombo compered the show while DJ Xgee provided danceable tunes to the delight of the audience.

    Other dignitaries at the event were, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero and his wife, Hajia Fatima Mukhtar Yero and Representative of the current governor of the state and Special Adviser to the Governor on Creative Art, Hajia Halima Idris, Air Vice Marshall Chris Okoye and his wife, Faith Okoye; Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Daniel Amuze Danauta; Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Dr. Manzo Daniel, chief executive officers and private sector heavy weights, among others.

    Glo takes ‘Laffta Fest’ to Uyo

    Living up to its promise of providing unlimited fun, humour and dance, Glo Laffta Fest, penultimate Sunday, held the residents of Uyo spellbound.

    Held at the Emerald Event Centre, Uyo, the show featured six top comedians who entertained the audience to no end.

    The show was flagged off by Patrick Onyeke, popularly known as Mr. Patrick, renowned for his thought provoking online skits, who treated the audience to a series of slap-stick humour and wisecracks.

    An On-Air-Personality and entrepreneur, Acapella, was the next act and he posted the best performance of the night sharing hilarious personal anecdotes that got the audience reeling in laughter with his top notch delivery.

    Daring Dan D’Humorous who has been a regular on the Glo Laffta Fest show also had a very good outing and his vintage performance was followed by Gordons, Bovi and Basketmouth, who headlined and brought the show to a close.

    Earlier, well-dressed Uyo residents arrived the venue of the show as early as 2pm, creating carnival-like atmosphere and the deejay, DJ Lambo welcomed them with delightful music.

    The show also featured guest appearances by Kanayo O. Kanayo, ‘homeboy’, Bishop Imeh Umoh, popularly known as Okon Lagos and RMD which greatly delighted their fans.

    Up – and – coming acts, such as General Odey, Emmaralo, British Pastors who travelled from their base in Aba, and MC Josy, among others whetted the appetite of attendees before the main acts.

    Among those who graced the show were the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, a member of the House, Nse Ntuen, a political stalwart in the state, Paul Ekpo, Commissioner  for Transport and Petroleum Resources, Orman Esin and a Special Adviser to the Governor, I.E Ekong, among others.

    Other cities that will host the show in the weeks ahead include Ibadan, Awka, Ikeja, Ikorodu, FESTAC, Ajah, Asaba, Aba, Suleja, Kubwa, Ibadan, Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta, Ekpoma, Kaduna, Akure, Lokoja, and Anyigba.

    Glo takes Laffta Fest to Yenagoa

    Telecom service provider, Globacom, last Sunday treated residents of Yenagoa, Capital of Bayelsa State to another edition of its comedy show tagged Glo Laffta Fest.

    Defying the rains, fun-loving residents of the city trooped out in numbers to witness performances by top comedy icons.

    The show has been receiving rave reviews as the country’s biggest comedy show so far.

    The show opened with up and coming acts such as home boy, Emmanuel Debegene, aka MC Emmaralo; Don Wizzy, British Pastors, Barrack King and G-Bones who set the mood for the more resourceful comedians who later performed.

    De Don, who is a Lagos-based comedian and on-air-personality, was the first of the celebrated artistes to mount the stage, followed by Seyi Law, who was making his first appearance on the show.

    Next in line was Senator, the Delta State-born comic who gave Bayelsa women something to cheer about when he joked that they are so street-wise that no man could take advantage of them even if they (the women) were drunk.

    Other performers include Dan D’Humorous, 2CanTok as well as Gordons who was the indubitable lord of the night.

    The exciting show was anchored by Nollywood star actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie.

    In a dance competition which was one of the highlights of the show, Gift Osareme got the crown and a goodie bag for her performance while  Simeone Soroghaye, a worker and part-time student walked home with the winning prize in the male category.

     The presence of Nollywood actors, Kanayo O. Kanayo and Angela Okorie, who were celebrity guests at the event, provided additional excitement at the show.

    Comedians live up to ‘Waffi’ spirit at Warri Glo Laffta Fest

    The Warri edition of the Glo Laffta Fest comedy show which held penultimate Sunday at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Warri, was nothing but a re-enactment of the ebullient Waffi spirit of the oil rich town, as the comedians on duty received  a rousing ‘Waffi’ reception from the mammoth crowd which spilled outside the hall.

    Led by the Warri-born joke merchant, Bovi, comedians such as Gordons, Dan D’Humorous, De Don, Frank D Don and Arinze Baba, were cognisant of the rule of ‘Waffi’ engagement that the crowd would never tolerate any dull moment.

    Playing the home advantage card, the Warri crowd reserved a special “Waffi warm reception” for its own people including Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), who is of Urhobo and Itsekiri descent,  Bovi, who shares Abraka and Ukwani blood, Gordons and De Don.

    The crowd also warmed up to Arinze Baba, Asaba boy, Frank da Don and Dan D’Humorous. However, Arinze Baba gave the most dramatic session as he laced his performance with music. His brilliant rendition of Osondi Owendi, a track by the late Chief Osita Osadebe, got him a standing ovation as he exited the stage. The show also featured up and coming acts, including fast-rising Warri-based comic, Emmanuel Debekene, popularly called Emmaralo, Kelvinsapp, Young Chief and Ericardo who all gave a good account of themselves.

    Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, was also present.

    A high point of the night of fun piloted by delectable actresses, Mercy Johnson and Ebube Nwagbo, was the calling up on stage and presentation of goody bags by Globacom to mothers who wore green attires midway into the show.

    Subscribers who participated in dance competitions were also rewarded with goody bags. In the ladies category, Janet Nwachukwu, Lilian Ukwamefune and Hope Ogodogun emerged winners while  Kelvin Sunday, Godson Ogaga and Emmanuel Sunday won in the men’s category.

    Warri was the fifth stop in the nationwide comedy show that has held in Port Harcourt, Abuja, Enugu and Owerri. Over the next five months, Glo Laffta Fest will go to other major cities including Awka, Ikeja, Ikorodu, FESTAC, Ajah, Asaba, Calabar, Aba, Suleja, Kubwa, Ibadan, Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta, Ekpoma, Kaduna, Akure, Lokoja, and Anyigba.

    Glo Slide & Bounce, Laffta Fest hold in Benin, Surulere

    The ongoing twin shows, Slide & Bounce musical concert and Laffta Fest comedy show, sponsored by national telecommunications operator, Globacom, will arrive Benin City, Edo State, and Surulere, Lagos State, on September 19 and 20 respectively.

    The shows, which have been running since the last three weeks, have been held in different locations, namely, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Victoria Island, Benin, Ikorodu and Abeokuta, attracting over 30, 000 Glo subscribers.

    The Benin edition of Glo Slide & Bounce music concert will hold at the Best Western Hotel, while Glo Laffta Fest will happen at the Eagle Club, Surulere, on September 20.

    Award-winning artistes and top Glo ambassadors, including Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly called D’banj, the Ojuelegba crooner, Wizkid, Mavin Records protégé, Korede Bello, and Burna Boy will entertain at the Slide & Bounce concert.

    OC Ukeje, Nollywood’s finest actor and Glo ambassador, will spice up the event by making a guest appearance, while humor merchant, Okey Bakassi, will anchor the show.

    Similarly, Glo Laffta Fest at the Surulere edition will feature top comedians, such as Basket Mouth, Julius Agwu, Gordons, Salvador (from Uganda), Dan D Humourous, 2 Can Talk and  MC Casino,  with  Wande Coal and Korede Bello on the band stand.

    According to a statement released from Globacom’s headquarters in Lagos, both shows which had been to six locations, will tour the other cities around the country, including Abuja, Ijebu-Ode, Egbeda and Ikeja.

    It added that subscribers wishing to attend the Laffta Fest show should use up to N3,000 before the event and send ‘LOL SURLERE’ to 33001.

    Glo takes Laffta Fest to Abuja

    IT was a humour fiesta on Friday, October 25 at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, when Globacom staged its comedy show, Glo Laffta Fest, in the city. Held at Thisday Dome, the show brimmed with enthusiastic crowd as 16 of Nigeria’s finest and international comedians combined with the nation’s biggest musicians to thrill Abuja residents.

    Anchored by popular comedian Basketmouth, the event, tagged Invasion LOL, featured artistes comprising four Americans, one South African, one Ugandan and 10 top Nigerian entertainers from Nigeria’s comedy and music circle.

    Sensational singer, Omawumi, set the ball rolling with her usual energetic performance spiced with her dexterous dance steps, with her rendition of her hit track, Adebisikonga, driving the crowd into frenzy.

    MI also delivered unbeatable performance to show why he is Africa’s Rapper Number One. Also on the bill were Wande and PSquare. In between the musical sessions and performances by the foreign comedians, the top Nigerian comedians on parade such as Akpororo, Gordons, I Go Save, Buchi, Funny Bone and Bovi gave a good account of themselves.

    The international on the bill include Robbert Powell, Donnivan Jordan, Tony Roberts and Deray Davis. Donnivan said, based on the falsehood they had been fed in America, he arrived Nigeria expecting to ride a camel but was stunned when his guests provided him with a glittering Range Rover.

    Explaining the basis for the show, the anchorman, Basketmouth, said that Globacom, “being the only network that cares about giving back to the people, put this show together to appreciate Nigerians that have stood behind the company in the last 10 years”.
