    Lagos by-election: We will support any winner on condition – Surulere residents

    Some voters in Surulere area of Lagos have said that they will support any candidate who wins election to the House of Representatives if he will sustain and do more development projects in the area.

    They spoke on a separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Saturday.

    Mrs Ruth Adesanya observed that there had been constant and tremendous rehabilitation of infrastructure in Surulere area that should be continued by any winner

    Adesanya urged Nigerians to have a positive attitude to casting of votes during any election as the only way of choosing credible leaders.

    Another voter, Mr Adekunle Lamidi, said that he had relocated from Surulere to Ikorodu but he had to come to the constituency to vote.

    “In spite of my relocation, I still arrive in time to vote because many people are enjoying the good work and the development in Surulere,” Adekunle said.

    A voter from ward G unit 1, Mr Alex Amos, however said that although the turnout was not encouraging, voters would make a good choice who would bring their desired goals in development.

    But a mobile court coordinator in Lagos, Mrs Arinola Ogbara-Banjoko, said it was not expected to witness crowd during a by-election.

    Ogbara-Banjoko said that residents were resolved to support the election by calling others to come and vote.

    “Some people are not aware that election was going until they were stopped by security men

    “To a large extent, the election was free , smooth and orderly,” Ogbara-Banjoko said.

    A senatorial leader, in Ward G, Surulere, Mr Tunde Odunuga, said that the election was peaceful.

    He noted that the residents had resolved to support any winner that would bring more development to the area.

    Lagos by-election: Sen. Eshinlokun-Sanni urges faith in Tinubu

    Sen. Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni (APC -Lagos), on Saturday urged Nigerians not to lose faith in President Bola Tinubu’s administration in spite of current economic challenges in the country.

    Eshinlokun -Sanni, who represents Lagos Central Senatorial Zone, made the  plea while speaking with newsmen on the ongoing Federal House of Representative, Surulere Constituency 1 by-election in Lagos State.

    According to him, the current economic hardship faced by Nigerians is a phase that will soon pass.

    “l urge the people not to loose faith but believe in the Tinubu administration for the best.

    “This is a phase that won’t last. Though tough times don’t last but tough people do and l assure you all that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”

    Eshinlokun-Sanni, whose senatorial district covers Surulere Local Government Area,  said that reports from the poll showed that people conducted themselves peacefully.

    He also commended the Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC) for conducting a free and peaceful election.

    He advised whoever emerged winner to impact his community positively by taking cue from the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila,  who was the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, representing  the constituency.

    According to him, the former speaker impacted the people of Surulere greatly, hence his re-election for five terms.

    He, however, expressed confidence that the APC candidate in the poll, Mr Faud Laguda, would emerge winner.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 12  candidates of different political parties are scrambling for 121,111 votes of registered voters with Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the election.

    The seat became vacant due to the resignation of the former occupant, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who after winning, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as his Chief of Staff.
