    Lagos seals church, others over noise pollution

    The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), on Wednesday, said it had sealed off some churches alongside recreational centres over noise pollution in the state.

    LASEPA made this known through a statement on its X handle.

    “In a bid to address noise pollution and other environmental violations, LASEPA took action, closing down several establishments across different parts of the state.

    “This enforcement drive, focusing on areas like Ogudu, Gbagada, Iyana Ejigbo, Isolo, Ajao Estate, Oshodi, Ilasamaja, and Okota, is part of LASEPA’s continuous efforts to uphold environmental standards and safeguard public health.

    “The affected establishments include Honourable Lounge & Lodging, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Celestial Church of God, OMA Night Club and Lounge, Bridge Spot Bar.

    “Others are Okiki Event Centre and Hall, Emota Paradise Hotel (Phase 2), CF Hotel & Suites, House 27 Hotel & Suites, Echo Spring Hotel, and Smile T Continental Hotel,” the statement read.

    The statement added that the establishments were found guilty of breaching environmental regulations despite multiple warnings from LASEPA.

    The statement reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance policy on regulatory non-compliance, adding that  the agency would not permit disregard for regulations.

    The statement urged all businesses to recognise the environmental obligations and work alongside the state government to foster a cleaner, more sustainable Lagos.

    Emergency responders extinguish fire at Lagos Church

    Emergency responders have succeeded in extinguishing an inferno that engulfed the Household of David Church located at Surulere Industrial Road, off Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos.

    Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the incident to newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos.

    Farinloye said that the fire, which started at about 0011 hours at the rear end of the church, was not noticed by the church workers but by passersby who drew the attention of the indoor workers to the incident.

    “No injury or casualty was recorded,” Farinloye said.

    He said that the church was preparing for a five-day crusade beginning from Wednesday and ending on Feb. 4.

    He said that the premises, said to have been leased and insured, was hired by the Church.

    “It was found out that due to the expected turn out of congregants for the crusade, the Church workers had been undergoing training by Fire Service to prepare for any eventualities.

    “Agencies on ground are NEMA, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, State Fire Service and the Nigeria Police,” Farinloye said. (NAN)
