Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Lands Bureau, Bode Agoro, is likely to become the new Head of Service (HoS), indications emerged yesterday.

This follows the voluntary retirement of the current HoS, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who will be taking up a new appointment as Principal Secretary to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Muri-Okunola, in a letter he signed, said his service will be ending on September 29. He was HoS for five years.

The letter reads: “My dear colleagues in the Lagos State Public Service. It is with a mixed heart that I inform you that my civil service career comes to an end on September 29. “It has been a really fulfilling journey and experience, one that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I want to thank the entire public service for your support during the entirety of my tenure as your servant-leader. You made me shine. You helped me clear the doubts of the naysayers. You gave me confidence and inspired my modest but fulfilled service. I appreciate you all individually and collaboratively as a family. We took the Lagos State Public Service to become the most vibrant and excellent public service in Nigeria in particular and sub Saharan Africa in general as the most professional workforce.

“I move on to serve the man who inspired and brought me into public service, and to take it as a career which eventually took me to the zenith. I will be taking on a new role in The Presidency to assist and contribute my quota in achieving The Renewed Hope agenda of our President and Commander In Chief, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I feel humbled and privileged to be taking on this new challenge and pray that The Almighty Allah will enable me in the discharge of this solemn duty to our nation.

“I count on your continued support, cooperation and prayers. Finally, I want to congratulate whoever emerges as my successor, and the 22nd Head of Service Of Lagos State Government and to request you to give him or her all the support and more than ever, to grow and take our proud public service to greater heights.”

  • Lagos HoS frowns at violation of council laws

The Lagos State Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, has frowned at  the continued  violation of the laws guiding  local government  administration in the state by the council staff.

Muri-Okunola was particularly displeased that council workers have refused to desist from naming one street after two persons.

”Let me tell you that it would no longer be business as usual  as we would not hesitate to deal with those found wanton.

‘’Be assured that things are going to start changing in the local government system”, he warned.

Muri-Okunola spoke at a three-day leadership retreat for the heads of department, heads of unit and NULGE state executives organised by Establishment, Pension and Training Office and the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees  (NULGE). The  theme was: Leadership skills and effective service delivery.

The Head of Service, who was represented by Dr Taiwo Salam, charged the heads of department and heads of unit  to avail themselves of the laws guiding local government administration in the state.

He listed such laws, which he said could not be ignored to include: Public Service Rules, Financial regulations and Procurement Laws.

He said Governor  Sanwo-Olu-led administration is committed to investing in capacity building to bring about quality service delivery in local government areas.

He said: “Knowledge is what man  will receive until he dies; you will recollect that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu  was once a commissioner in the Establishment and Training and one of the acronyms of the theme is to develop human capacity and on this note he will not leave any stone unturned now that he is the governor.

‘’We as employers of labour  need to ensure that those coming on board are people of virtue and we should also ensure that we don’t stop there but we should continue with the train the trainers by training those that are employed so that they will also be on the same page with us.”

The Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission, Folasade Faseun, who noted that theme of the retreat was in line with the present administration development policy, assured that there would be a change in service delivery in the local government after the retreat.

She said:  “The theme of this retreat is apt and particularly in line with the development policy of this present administration.
