Adams, who represents Eti-Osa Constituency I at the Assembly, said this while reviewing the bill which had on Wednesday got inputs from stakeholders and his colleagues.

According to Adams, the bill seeks to create a railway corporation to oversee the activities of the train services, ensure safety and improve transportation in the state.

Within just a year of his first term, he has gained widespread admiration from his constituents, delivering the dividends of democracy in ways they haven’t experienced before.

At the 9th stakeholders’ meeting across Lagos State, Hon. Sannu met with a large turnout of constituents eager to engage with their representatives and discuss ways to further develop the constituency.

The meeting, which took place at the Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Secretariat in Iworo, Badagry, focused on the critical issue of food security.

During the event, Hon. Sannu stressed the importance of prioritising food security to ensure a sustainable future for the state.

He pointed out that food insecurity is a complex issue that requires the joint efforts of both the government and citizens to resolve.

The theme of this year’s stakeholders’ meeting, “Ensuring Food Security for Sustainable Future: Youth Participation and Home-Grown Farming,” aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals aimed at eradicating poverty.

Hon. Sannu emphasised that food security remains a top priority for lawmakers in the assembly, and called for increased youth involvement in farming and local agricultural initiatives.

The lawmaker’s call to action reflects his deep commitment to the well-being of his constituents and his proactive approach to addressing pressing challenges facing Lagos State.

He said: “We at the Lagos State House of Assembly are committed to making Lagos a food-producing state and not just a consuming state in the agriculture value chain to tackle the present-day reality of food insufficiency.

“Our commitment is exemplified through transformational laws and policy supervision in the agricultural sector,” he said, noting that with the collaboration of the Assembly, the government of the state has made giant strides in the agriculture sector.

He highlighted several agricultural initiatives, including the establishment of the 34-hectare Ikorodu Fish Farm Estate, which can produce and process 10,000 tons of fish annually in collaboration with 400 fish farmers in the state.

He also mentioned the AGRIC-YES programme, as well as the Oke-Aro and Gberigbe Pig Farm Estates, which currently partner with 1,200 farmers and have the capacity to house and process 88,000 mature pigs each year.

“It is important to reiterate that, as lawmakers, we have also created an enabling environment for farming activities to thrive in the state, particularly through the passage of anti-open grazing of livestock Law in September 2021.”

Offering solutions to the issue, the amiable and insightful lawmaker emphasized that to achieve food sufficiency, farming capacity must be expanded, and residents should also consider engaging in animal husbandry.

  • Buhari’s address exudes courage — Lagos lawmaker

Buhari’s address exudes courage — Lagos lawmaker

A Lagos lawmaker, Mr Tunde Braimoh, said on Monday that President Muhammadu Buhari’s national broadcast exuded courage and statesmanship.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Braimoh said that Buhari’s declaration that Nigeria’s unity was already “settled and not negotiable” portrayed him as a president still in charge.

The lawmaker said: “The President’s speech is an apt response to the insensitive and mindless cravings of some self-serving citizens from certain sections of the country to compromise Nigeria’s unity and strength for untenable and unreasonable purposes.

“Unity is the forerunner of peace and peace is the harbinger of progress.

“Without unity and peace, the much desired and long overdue progress and prosperity of Nigeria will continue to be elusive.

“The President in his speech minced no words, neither was he equivocal nor vacillating in stating clearly that terrorism, insurgency and sundry criminal acts under whatever guise will no longer be tolerated.”

Braimoh, who is the Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Strategy, Publicity and Security, said that the absence of peace and unity would not augur well for the country and its people.

“At the end of the day, perception is very important. Of what attraction can a country plagued by wanton and spurious ethnic determination caprices be to any serious foreign investor?

“Without ample and adequate direct foreign investment, what happens to our already depleted Gross Domestic Product?

“I salute the courage and statesmanship of Mr President in that decisive speech, which depicts he’s actually in charge and not sick again,” the lawmaker added.

According to him, government is run by courage and not by sentiments.

Braimoh, representing Kosofe II at the Assembly, noted that the return of the President was a good omen for the country, especially for the masses that stood by him while he was away.

“Now that the President is back, a lot of grounds must be covered to reciprocate the love and confidence reposed in him by the citizenry,’’ he said.

The lawmaker, therefore, urged the President to fulfil his campaign promises.

Buhari left the country on May 7 for medical treatment in London and returned on Saturday.

  • Lagos lawmaker urges police to arrest Oyo lawmaker’s killers

A MEMBER of Lagos State House of Assembly, Segun Olulade, has urged the Police to investigate the gruesome murder of a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gideon Aremu, to bring the culprits to book.

Olulade, who represents Epe Constituency 2 in a statement issued yesterday, expressed outrage at the murder of the lawmaker, who represented Orelope Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly.

According to him, the murder of late Aremu would send a wrong signal to the local and international community about the state of security in the country. “If a lawmaker can be gruesomely murdered with ease, then how safe are the people who are not politicians?

“The police and other security agencies must intensify their crime prevention and detection activities. If police can foil assassination attempts and unravel cases of murder within reasonable time, it will serve as disincentive and deterrent to those who perpetrate evil deeds.

“The security agencies must quickly move against the killers of late Aremu and others who may be behind this gruesome killing before they have the opportunity to cover their tracks. I want to also appeal to the people to help the police in their investigation,” the statement reads.

Olulade commiserated with the family of the deceased, the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Oyo State Government. He prayed that God should grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Aremu was reportedly shot to death in his residence at Alaakia area of Ibadan on Friday night.

  • We’ve lost a gem, say Oyo Speaker, Lagos lawmaker

We’ve lost a gem, say Oyo Speaker, Lagos lawmaker

Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker Mrs. Monsurat Sunmonu said the country has lost a gem.

In a statement yesterday, she described Alhaji Abdulazeez Arisekola-Alao’s death as “sad, shocking and a great loss”.

Mrs. Sunmonu said deceased contributed immensely to the state’s development.

She said besides being a philanthropist, who touched many lives with his wealth and position, he also contributed to the propagation of Islam.

The Speaker said the vacuum left behind by his death would be difficult to fill.

Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity, Segun Olulade described the late Arisekola-Alao as “a legend”.

He said: “Chief Arisekola was a detribalised man, as he gave his daughter in marriage to the son of Chief Emmanuel Iwwuanyanwu of Imo descent. Alhaji Arisekola-Alao was a household name. I grew up knowing him as a man at the centre in almost every aspect of human life. I cannot count how many national burning issues he mediated in for the peace and stability of the polity.

“His generosity knew no bound. He was always calm, simple and soft spoken. He maintained a good relationship with all and his friends cut across several segments, from royal caucus to religious leaders, businessmen, diplomats and statesmen in Nigeria and beyond. He was elegant in all ramifications with a reputation beyond the shores of Nigeria. I am sure the nation will miss him.

“I condole with his family, the Yoruba Muslim community, Yorubaland and the nation. It is my belief that people from our generation will pick many good examples from the legendary life he lived and the national unity he stood for.

“I believe strongly that nothing will be too big to immortalise the late Arisekola-Alao, who was among the few legends of his generation.”
