    Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club distributes educational materials to pupils 

    In commemoration of International Literacy Day 2024, the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club in collaboration with Lagos Elite Lion Club and Ikeja Lions Club recently organised a three-in-one activity including tree planting exercise, free medical check-up and distribution of educational materials to pupils.

    The event which held at Anifowose Primary School, Ikeja area of Lagos, underscores the clubs’ commitment to eliminating the barriers to education for children.

    Items including branded exercise books, bags, white cotton socks, teaching materials, stationeries for pupils were distributed. 

    Also, medical check-up for teaching and non-teaching staff and tree planting exercise were carried out. 

    In his address, the president, Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club, Lion Victor Aylor said: “We are carrying out this back-to-school initiative in a bid help pupils with writing materials as they begin another academic year. 

    “We did our needs assessment, and we discovered that Anifowose Primary school lacked educational support and some of the pupils have no writing materials and they lacked stationeries; so we decided to come and surprise them with different educational items.

    “We are also planting trees to beautify the compound. Also, our medical team is on ground to check the health status of teachers and non-teaching staffs. 

    “So far, our club is five years being chartered. It is fifth year in practice, and we also make sure we give and add value to the society. Our mission is to empower the society with team work. We are working as a team in the club and we are also empowering the community with the little that we can gather. This is a self-funded project, we pulled up our resources together to make it happen.”

    Also, the Charter President, Lagos Elite Lion club, Lion desmond said: “We are happy to be partaking in this project. Today’s activity is impactful, and we are happy to key into the vision. Our next project will be visiting orphanages, and we are working in hand with Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club.”

    In their remarks, the headmistress of the school, Mrs. Hamzat Sola Janet and the assistant headmistress, Mrs. Awe Christianah Olabisi in their seperate remarks lauded the initiative which is aimed at bolstering educational support for their pupils. 

    They thanked the organisers for providing essential learning materials to their school. 

    One of the students, Lucky who is the head boy of the school, applauded the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club for the laudable initiative 

    He said: “These items are very useful and important to my education and that of my colleagues. Thank you Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club. God will continue to bless the club, immensely. 

    Another student, Dada Emmanuella noted that the items she got gave her joy, stressing that the gesture of the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club is truly in line with the commemoration of the international literacy day.
