iPhone X Mobile for launch today in Lagos

The iPhone X Mobile phone will be launched in Lagos today.

The mobile device, experts say, is arriving Nigeria at a good time when users will have the great experience it gives its users.

Over the years, the iPhone has become an exciting device to share stories and personal experiences, and this can only get better with the new iPhone X.

Mobile phones have become the most common gadgets and, usually, those with the means would prefer to build a relationship with brands with excellent storytelling techniques.

The new phone is a typical example of how brands relate to customers through storytelling, by developing a relevant connection built on functionality.

It caters to specific demands and creates lasting and healthier experiences for the users.

Within the tech space, the iPhone series have been very consistent in production, and more often than not, the brand meets consumers’ expectations.

The new iPhone X is the ideal device for tech-savvy, upwardly mobile individuals and business owners.

The super retina display features a 2436 x 1125 resolution with 458 pixels per inch, the highest resolution and pixel density Apple has introduced in an iPhone.

It offers true tone technology, which uses an ambient light sensor to adjust the white balance of the display to match the ambient lighting in any room.

The phone is the sort of future all users dream of.

  • Safety policy statement coming in Lagos

The Lagos State Safety Policy Statement will be signed next year, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has said.

He said the policy was part of initiatives to ‘’effectively address emerging safety challenges inhibiting the Lagos mega city vision’’.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Tunji Bello,  at the unveiling of the rebranding of Lagos State Safety Commission, Ambode said the policy would help in  developing knowledge-based communities, using mechanisms that appreciate local laws, cultures and international best practices.

The rebranding, he said, entailed the establishment of a safety training institute.

The institute, he said, would phase out quack consultants who operate under the pretext of government backing.

“This unique identity will help in abating the activities of impostors who have formed the habit of extorting money from the public under the guise of working for the government. It will ensure Lagosians are not defrauded.

“I urge Lagosians to support the rebranded commission in every way possible especially by giving timely information on activities likely to jeopardise safety,” he said.

The Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr Oluseye Oladejo said prevention and detection of potential risks of mishap were central to the state’s security measures.

The rebranding idea, according to him, would create more awareness and deepen the commission’s cooperation with the public.

He said: “We intend to embark on massive advocacy that will cut across all the sectors to ensure we are all on the same page as regards prevention of mishaps.

‘’The important thing is not to apprehend people. We need to create that awareness. The safety business is not a revenue generating venture but to ensure that we stay safe because staying safe is cheaper than imposing fine for infractions.”

Lagos Safety Commission Director-General Hakeem Dickson said the rebranding would eliminate disaster through zero-tolerance for safety threats.

Stakeholders, he said, would from next year sign a safety commitment pact for workers’ protection.

“If they leave their home safe, they must be able to go home safe. We would project to people the measures they need to be safe in advance, and ensure utility safety becomes a culture for all. Being proactive simply means prevention is better than cure. The badge indicates you possess the authority to preach safety. We are also going to have consultants who will be registered practitioners,” Dickson said.

  • NYSC launches job portal in Lagos

The Director-General (DG) National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig Gen Suleiman Kazaure on Friday launched the national CV bank and job portal in Lagos.

The portal, nyscjobs.org, which was developed by the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) of the NYSC in conjunction with Diamond Bank, Dragnet, Blogme, Gr8tjobs.ng, and Sigma Pensions, allows corps members to upload their curriculum vitae (CV) and employers to post vacancies and screen candidates.

Corps members can also post short videos to sell their skills to employers.

Kazaure said it was part of the NYSC’s programme to promote employability after the one-year scheme.

“Despite the obvious difficulty of securing white collar jobs and the overriding benefits of self-employment, a good number of our graduates are still inclined to trying their lucks with paid employment. This is why management considers it appropriate to buy into the idea of helping corps members to package themselves for employability in the highly competitive labour market.

“The portal we are launching today will, among other benefits, serve as a platform for corps members to get information on job vacancies and market themselves to protective employers, serve as a large pool for employers searching for suitable candidates, and provides means of verification of credentials.”

In her keynote speech, CEO Uconnect/Gr8tjobs.ng, Mrs Omomene Odike, said the initiative would provide employers with a creditable platform to find new graduates at the click of a button.

She underscored the need for the three stakeholders with access to the portal to do their parts to make the initiative work as planned.

“This portal will eliminate waste of time and paperwork. But all three stakeholders must play their parts – the corps members must upload their CVs, the NYSC must sustain the portal, and the employers must post job vacancies. Technology does not work on its own. It is people that make technology work,” she said.

She advised corps members to stay competitive in the labour market by getting relevant technical and soft skills not taught in school.

Managing Director of Dragnet, Mr Baba Ikazaboh said the portal allows employers to filter candidates by location, gender, qualification and other indices.

He added that it was a cost-effective way for small scale employers to screen candidates without paying expensive fees to HR firms.

Lauding the initiative and partnership, head, Retail Banking, Diamond Bank, Robert Hill, said the portal was good response to what young people want based on research by the bank.

“The youths are really important to us. We cannot ignore 60 per cent of the population. They are the people we need to be helping. It is great to see the NYSC helping youths to showcase themselves,” he said.

  • Expert tasks FG on renewable energy

Expert tasks FG on renewable energy

A Renewable Energy Expert, Mr Yomi  Kolawole, has urged the Federal Government( FG ) to create more business atmosphere that would enable the spread of renewable energy, to tackle communities without electricity.

Kolawole, who is also Chief Executive Officer, Topain Energy Solution Ltd., Lagos, gave the advice in an interview on Friday in Lagos.

He said that it was important to have a suitable atmosphere to accelerate the spread of renewable energy, adding that the hydro power plants had not been able to bridge the energy needs sufficiently.

“To expedite the spread of renewable energy, government should grant five years or more tax rebates for importers and assemblers of Nigerians in the sector.

“However, government should pass a law to compel Nigerians to patronise local producers in order to boost the sector adequately,’’ Kolawole said.

He noted that the importance of renewable energy could not be over emphasized because of its environmental friendly nature.

The expert added that it was disturbing that in spite the potential of renewable energy in the country, the nation’s economy could not distribute beyond 10,000 Megawatts of energy.

“We must begin to take the immense advantage of sunlight, especially in the Northern part of the country to boost our solar energy needs.

“Even the possibilities of wind energy are not yet harnessed enough to reduce the electricity lag in spite the potential of the sector and the presumed prospect.’’

Despite efforts by the Federal Government to provide electricity in the country, the World Bank had said that over 80 million Nigerians had no access to electricity.

The World Bank Country Director, Nigeria, Mr Rachid Benmessaoud, stated this at the 4th Action Learning event on Upscaling Mini Grids for low-cost and timely access to electricity.

The occasion was organised by the Rural Electrification Agency, REA, in Abuja.

  • Total Upstream, NiBUCAA take HIV/AIDS campaign to Lagos schools

Total Upstream, NiBUCAA take HIV/AIDS campaign to Lagos schools

To increase awareness on the universal health coverage goal and commemorate this year’s World AIDS Day, Total Upstream companies in Nigeria and Nigeria Business Coalition Against AIDS (NiBUCAA) have launched a campaign for secondary schools in Lagos State.

The campaign is aimed at helping youths – secondary school pupils to develop life skills that will enhance healthy behaviours, empowering the girl-child with skills on family life education, and equipping them with information on reproductive health-related issues.

At the event at Dairy Farm Secondary School, Agege, Managing Director, Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Nicolas Terraz: “The theme for the World AIDS Day is: right to health. At Total, we cannot agree more. Just as all children have a right to education, we all also have a right to health. HIV/AIDS disease has been a great dilemma globally over the past decades. It is a concern that, up till now, the prevalence rate remains high due to the negligence and ignorance of the public.

“The truth about HIV/AIDS is that it is not only a health challenge, but it is a developmental challenge as well because young people suffer the most infection rates. And as long as young people are the worst affected by the epidemic, the prospects for Nigeria remain bleak.”

Terraz added: “The youth have a great role to play in heightening awareness and the prevention of this pandemic. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), prevention is not only better than cure, but cheaper and prevents complications.’’

Nigeria Business Coalition Against AIDS Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Gbenga Alabi, called for more efforts in ending HIV by 2030.

“Every December 1 presents us with an opportunity to reflect on how far we have gone in addressing the challenges of HI/AIDS pandemic. Hence, the school setting provides a great opportunity in shaping students’ behavior and their thoughts.

“Recent prevention gaps have identified the need for all countries to intensify efforts in HIV response  to end AIDS by 2030. The universal and inalienable right to health provides everyone with the right to realise the highest attainable standard of health without discrimination or stigma. Though HIV and AIDS is still very much around, but together the path towards winning the fight is bright if we can tailor the response to individual/group needs in our various programming.”

Justifying the need to engage the pupils, Alabi said adolescents are victims of rising HIV-related deaths. He urged the pupils to join the Anti-AIDS Club to be established at Dairy Farm Secondary School, Sanngo Senior Secondary School and Keke Senior Secondary School.

“Adolescents are the only age groups where AIDS –related deaths are rising daily occasioned by sexual exploitation, abuses and sometimes subjected to rape and other sexual violence. This school based project will empower students with reproductive health related information, empowering the girl-child with assertive skills as well as life building skills. In addition, anti-AIDS Club will be established in the beneficiary schools for reasonable coverage, effective participation and sustainability.”

HIV and AIDS tool kits were presented to the beneficiary schools- Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School, Sanngo Senior Secondary School and Keke Senior Secondary School all situated in Education District 1 of the state.

At the event were officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Health led by Mrs. Adeyoju, Mr. Ayodele Adeyemi of Education District 1, where the beneficiary schools are located, representatives of Technical Partners to Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited – NAPIMS, Petrobras, Sapetro and CNOCC – principals and teachers of the beneficiary schools.
