  • ‘Insurgency is becoming a business venture’

The Senior Pastor, Crown of Christ Victory Church Lagos, Prophet David Ayilara, speaks with Ibrahim Adam on the state of the nation. Excerpts:

What is your message to the government?

They should have the fear of God. They should remember that some people were in that position before them and one day they will also leave that position and this earth. They should do the needful because the blood being shed everyday will cry for vengeance according to the Bible.

It will not be on those that killed them alone but the people that permits the killings too. They should seek for wisdom of God and they should also desist from greediness because this has led us to the problem of corruption.

What do you have to say on the current state of the nation?

My message to the Christians is also the same to those who are not Christians. Our God is not a God of confusion. God is a God of unity and love. The Bible says he that does not love does not know God.

When you say you love, it is a pity people don’t understand the definition of love. What majority take to be the meaning of love is not love. Love is not kiss me I kiss you. Love is not greet me and I greet you.

There was a statement by former President Goodluck Jonathan that there are Boko Haram members in the corridors of the Presidency. This means there are people there backing Boko Haram and they are trying to destabilise whatever he is trying to build. There is no leader that wants the people dead. But a tree cannot make a forest. If we join hands with the President and leaders in the country, things will go well in Nigeria.

Christians have been praying and I have been praying for Nigeria. We have prayed a lot and it is time for action. I am not saying we should stop praying but we have prayed and action should be the next thing.

We cannot be praying and behaving contrary to our prayers and expect God to answer us. I believe there can be peace in Nigeria if we can back our prayers up with action.

What do you mean by action after prayer?

What I meant is that like we are having soldiers fighting for us trying to defend the country. We should listen to their agitations if truly we want to fight insurgency. There are things they are complaining about which we all know.

They complain of their food, the firearms and almost every family has one or two persons in the army.

If truly we want to win, we need to listen to those people because it seems to some people that insurgency has become a business. If care is not taken, nobody will be safe in few years to come. Nobody should think we have a fenced house. We have to think of all this this things to allow peace to reign so that every person will not suffer at the end

What is the 72 -hour marathon prayer all about?

It is a programme we do once in a year. This year’s programme is coming up by 14- 16 of August with the theme ‘Breaking the seal’ taken from Revelation 5. When you read it, you understand the word sickness and this demonic power used it. It is only one person that can break it, which is our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible says in that revelation that you are looking for someone to open the book and to break the seal. The Bible also says there is nobody worthy here on earth and in heaven but Jesus Christ that has sacrificed himself for mankind.

So, this year according to the Lord, every soul that has been holding individuals from fulfilling their destiny, be it the seal of barrenness, poverty, singlehood, mental illness and every kind of demonic seal shall be broken because it is the power of God and not the power of man because there is no man that can do it except God.

This is not the first time and we know the Lord that has been performing miracles in the years back will do more this year. We are going to be having breaks as the programme progress. We have afternoon session from 12- 3pm.

The night session is from 11pm- 3am because we are also considering people going to work. Those who can fast at a stretch can do that but it is not compulsory for them. It will be better to check your health before fasting.

    What inspired the prayer session?

We don’t do except the Lord says do this. Because whatever you do and the Lord is not in it, it will not yield results. The Lord told me 15 years ago that we should be having the prayer meeting once in a year. I don’t believe in copying any church or any pastor but I believe in hearing the voice of God and obeying it.

“It is imperative to reiterate the essence of abstinence from risky road use behaviour and total adherence to all traffic laws as prescribed by extant traffic laws,” Chukwurah said.

  • Ambode denies links to N9.9bn frozen bank accounts

The immediate past governor of Lagos State Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, said on Friday that he has nothing to do with the bank accounts frozen by a federal court on Tuesday over an alleged N9.9 billion fraud.

He said no account of his contained N9.9 billion, let alone being frozen by the EFCC.

A federal judge had ordered the temporary freezing of the accounts domiciled in Zenith Bank, Access Bank and First City Monument Bank, following an ex parte application brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

According to the EFCC, N9.9 billion was paid from the state government’s accounts into the FCMB account opened on September 17, 2018, and operated by Adewale Adesanya, the permanent secretary in the Office of the Chief of Staff to Mr Ambode.

Mr Ambode served as governor between 2015 and 2019.

The accounts ordered frozen by the court, he said, belong to the Lagos State Government and not him or any individual.

“Those accounts were opened in the course of normal operations by the Lagos State Government for its administrative purposes and not for the former governor’s personal transactions as was being wrongly insinuated and have been operated to ensure smooth operations of government activities by previous and present administrations,” he  said in the statement issued by his media aide, Habib Aruna.

“The former governor was not and will never be involved in any unauthorised use of government property and resources.

“We strongly believe that after four demanding years as Chief Executive of Lagos State, Mr Ambode is entitled to some deserved rest with his family and loved ones without the unwarranted attacks on his well-earned reputation.”

Mr Ambode said while he did not intend to join issues with the anti-corruption agency, especially as there had been no communication between them on the issue, it is pertinent to clarify what he believed was a misleading import of the press statement on Tuesday.

The statement added that the former governor believed that at this time in the nation’s polity, all hands must be on deck to support “our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), both at the state and national levels in order to continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to Lagosians and Nigerians respectively.”

  • NURTW officer faults Lagos chair on endorsement of successor

A senior member of the National Executive Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), representing Lagos State, Chief Alamu Otegbeye, has decried the endorsement of a new chairman in the state.

At a news briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, he said it was the responsibility of the NURTW’s National Administrative Council, in collaboration with other members of the union, to decide who becomes the next chairman of NURTW in Lagos State, and no one could assume the office through the back door.

Otegbeye, who is also one of the founding members of the Elders’ Forum, Lagos State Council of the union, described as laughable, how the outgoing Lagos State Chairman of NURTW, Tajudeen Agbede, recently endorsed Michael Odugunle, alias Ajilo, to take over from him.

He urged some factional members peddling a rumour that Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, was planning to cause mayhem in the state to desist from such character assassination.

Otegbeye said the allegation was unfounded and a figment of the imagination of those bent on dividing the union because of ulterior and selfish motives.

“MC Oluomo is one of the respected members of NURTW. He has been promoting the union within and outside the state. He is someone who has the welfare of the members at heart. So, there is no way such a person will be plotting evil against same members,” he said.

Stressing why the endorsement by Agbede cannot stand the test of time, Otegbeye said the state chairman had no right to install his successor.

He said it was mandatory by the constitution of the union to follow the laid down rules and regulations in choosing a new chairman.

Said he: “Without the dissolution of the state executive council, no one has a right to take over the office. No state chairman has a right to choose incoming chairman because the present state executive’s tenure will expire by the end of this month.”

Otegbeye added that no elder of the union in Lagos was in support of Agbede’s move to install a stooge as the next chairman.

MAN President, Engr. Mansur Ahmed, said vibrancy in businesses has to do with local content. According to him, the business record of last month showed an appreciable improvement, stressing that this calls for celebration.

He said the index of the manufacturing sector is growing very fast in tandem with building materials, financial services sector and oil and gas.

The guest lecturer, Prof. Olawale Ajai of the Department of Political/Social and Legal Education, Lagos Business School,  blamed the woes of the country on the falling standard of  education. This, he said, has made productivity rate very low. This, he said has affected the human capital and production in the country.

He said for example, the academic system in the 80’s was 6-3-3-4 which has changed to 9-3-4 system due to collapse of instructional infrasture that has also affected the growth of the children.
