    ‎Commissioner commends LASPA staff, pushes for more innovative parking solutions ‎

    ‎The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed commitment to deploying data-driven and technology-enhanced solutions to tackle parking challenges across the State. This initiative aims to improve traffic flow, enhance productivity, and promote orderliness on Lagos roads.

    ‎Speaking at the annual staff retreat of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), held on Friday in Ikeja with the theme “From Parking pains to productivity gains”, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, commended LASPA staff for their resilience and professionalism despite the demanding nature of their work, which often brings them into conflict with members of the public.

    ‎According to the Commissioner, effective parking regulation remains a vital component of urban traffic management, and LASPA has continued to discharge its duties with commendable commitment.

    ‎“You are doing well because your work often puts you at loggerheads with the public. However, you have continued to carry out your duties professionally and without deterrence.

    ‎”A well-managed parking system is essential to a city like Lagos — it reduces congestion, improves traffic efficiency, boosts business productivity, and creates a more organized urban environment,” he said.

    ‎Osiyemi emphasized the need for a coordinated data management framework and the adoption of digital innovations to replace manual enforcement processes. 

    ‎He added that the State’s vision is to transition Lagos into a modern, technology-driven smart city with seamless mobility and efficient service delivery.

    ‎The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, commended the efforts of LASPA in the parking  management system of the State.

    ‎While speaking on the topic “Streamlining Our Enforcement Operations For Sustainable Growth” during the panel discussion session, Hon. Giwa, noted that dedicated, discipline and collaboration are essential to achieving success.

    ‎In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, called on members of the public to support government initiatives, rather than obstruct, law enforcement officers on assignment.

    ‎He informed that commercial drivers and traffic violators often feel emboldened by public sympathy, leading to unruly and unsafe practices.

    ‎Musa added that anyone who attacks a law enforcement officer in Lagos would face serious consequences, noting that offenders in the past had been made to face the full weight of the law.

    ‎He reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering synergy among relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to achieve seamless operations in parking management.

    ‎Earlier in her address the General Manager,  LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, announced plans by the Agency to commence the pilot phase of on-street parking in key areas such as Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ikeja, Surulere and would later extend to other axis of Lagos.

    ‎Adelabu explained that the advocacy for on-street parking had been ongoing for the past two years, adding that enforcement would commence next year to ensure free movement for both pedestrians and motorists across Lagos.

    ‎She further stated that beyond technology and regulation, LASPA is intensifying public sensitization on pool driving and shared mobility, as part of measures to decongest the roads and promote sustainable transportation.

    ‎The LASPA boss added that the retreat provided a valuable platform for staff to review the year’s performance, share insights, and strategize on innovative approaches to transform parking management from a source of friction to a catalyst for efficiency, productivity, and economic growth in Lagos State.

    ‎The retreat featured talks and a short quiz on LASPA’s core values as well as an Ethics quiz facilitated by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on LASPA, Mr. Deen Sanwoola and the Director, Budget and Planning, LASPA, Mrs, Abimbola Lawal respectively.

    Seven arrested over attack on LASPA officials

    Seven persons have been arrested over the recent attack on officials of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) in Ajah, and Epe areas of the state.

    The suspects, made up of staff and security personnel of the facilities, are being detained at the Badore Police Station, Lekki, pending the conclusion of preliminary investigations before prosecution in court.

    General Manager of LASPA Mrs Adebisi Adelabu said the agency would ensure the perpetrators were prosecuted.

    She condemned the attack on government officials performing their lawful duties and warned that those found guilty would face the full weight of the law.

    Quoting Chapter 17, Section 117 of the Criminal Code, she said, “Any person who obstructs or resists any public officer while engaged in the discharge of duties of his office under any law or regulation commits a felony and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for three years or to a fine of two hundred thousand naira.”

    Mrs Adelabu explained that the agency’s team was on a routine compliance check when they were attacked, resulting in injuries to some officials.

    She noted that state parking regulations require every organisation and commercial centre to obtain parking permits from LASPA for proper parking management.

    She warned that any further assault on LASPA or other government officials would attract sanctions not only against the attackers but also the landlords and tenants of the premises where such acts occurred.

    Seven arrested over attack on LASPA officials in Lagos

    Seven people have been arrested in connection with the recent attacks on officials of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) during enforcement exercises at commercial centres in Lagos.

     The incidents took place at Better Mart, Badore Road, off Addo Road, Ajah, and Ashley Mall in Epe, where LASPA personnel and other state government officials were allegedly assaulted by staff and security guards of the establishments.

    According to LASPA’s General Manager, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, the suspects are currently being detained at Badore Police Station, Lekki, while preliminary investigations continue ahead of prosecution in a competent court.

     Adelabu condemned the attacks, warning that severe consequences await those who obstruct or assault government officials on duty.

    She cited the Criminal Law of Lagos State, which prescribes up to three years’ imprisonment or a ₦200,000 fine for such offences.

     She explained that LASPA’s team had been carrying out routine checks to ensure compliance with State Parking Regulations, which require all organizations and commercial centres to obtain parking permits from the agency. The attack, she added, resulted in injuries to state officials.

    She also warned that any further assault on LASPA personnel or other government workers would attract punishment not only for the perpetrators but also for landlords and tenants of the premises where such incidents occur.

    The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) will commence enforcement on indiscriminate parking of vehicles on Lagos roads from Monday, 28 July, 2025.

    ‎The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, dropped the hint at the weekend during the monthly walk for fitness exercise organised by the Office of the Head of Service for July.

    ‎Agoro, noted that it would be better for LASPA to start the enforcement on indiscriminate parking of vehicles within the State Secretariat in Alausa and the Old Secretariat in Ikeja before extending it to other parts of the State.

    The Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office (PSO), Mrs. Olasunkanmi Oyegbola, reinforcing the charge, called on Civil Servants to imbibe the model parking culture by supporting LASPA.

    She urged them to take the message to their colleagues and friends adding that no victim of the enforcement by LASPA should contact the Office of the Head of Service or the Permanent Secretary for help.

    ‎in her sensitisation brief the General Manager, Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, informed that 

    compliance with the parking regulations plays a critical role in achieving a more organized and greater Lagos for both motorists and pedestrians.

    She commended the State Officials for their support and collaboration with LASPA, in the drive for a better parking culture and emphasized that LASPA, would be commencing enforcement on indiscriminate parking on Lagos State roads.

    While urging Lagosians to ensure full Compliance with the State Parking regulations, she noted that the essence of the enforcement is to mitigate against all forms of traffic congestion make the roads safer for motorists as well as pedestrians and increase business turn around time.

     Adelabu assured that LASPA is resolved in the actualization of its mandate for the introduction of a model parking culture and will not tolerate any act of non compliance with the State Parking Regulations.

    As part of efforts to mitigate traffic congestion on Lagos roads and further promote a model parking culture, the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), has concluded arrangements to commence enforcement on event centres, hotels and night clubs across the State without valid parking permit. 

    The General Manager, LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, gave the hint on Monday, stressing that it is mandatory for all event centres, hotels and night clubs operating in Lagos State to ensure compliance with the State Parking Regulations and obtain the necessary parking permit.

    Adelabu noted that part of the provisions of the Lagos State Parking Authority laws is that all business/service providers and operators in the hospitality industry should register with LASPA and obtain a valid parking permit for effective parking control and management of traffic.

    She informed that the importance of effective parking management in curbing traffic congestion and maintaining safety and order on the State roads, especially in areas with high vehicular and pedestrian traffic, cannot be over emphasized.

    While stressing that LASPA, has held various engagements with the management of the different associations in charge of hotels, night clubs and event centres in Lagos State, to sensitise them on the need to comply with the state parking regulations, she however, informed that many of them are still defaulting.

    She urged all owners and operators of hotels, night clubs and event centres, to take this warning as a final notice to ensure full compliance as the Authority will soon commence a comprehensive enforcement on defaulters of the State Parking 

    Regulations. 

    Adelabu further emphasized that LASPA will not tolerate non-compliance with any of the parking regulations adding, that any facility that continues to operate without a valid parking permit will be sanctioned.

    LASPA warns against destruction of parking signages

    The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has charged residents to desist from the indiscriminate destruction of the various road signages installed for the effective management and parking control in the State.

    ‎The General Manager, LASPA, Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, gave the warning during a chat with reporters, noting that some of the road signages erected across the State for an improved parking culture as well as the safety and benefit of motorists are been vandalized.

    ‎She informed that the signages which are strategically installed across the State at different road locations are used in regulating parking activities, ensuring traffic flow and enhancing public safety.

    ‎Adelabu further emphasized that the signages are part of public infrastructure meant to enhance model parking, stressing that it is a criminal offense for any individual or groups to temper with any of the parking infrastructure and signages. 

    She noted that chapter 17, section 35 of the Criminal Law Code of Nigeria, states that “Unlawful interference with property, Any person who unlawfully disconnects, removes, tampers, meddles with or in any manner interferes with the use of any private or public property commits a felony and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for three (3) years”

    According to her, vandalisation of parking signages poses a threat to public safety, disrupts the smooth flow of traffic, and creates inconvenience for motorists seeking parking spaces. 

    She said: “LASPA condemns totally in the strongest terms the destruction of the State Parking signages and would not hesitate to take necessary legal measures to ensure perpetrators are brought to book.

    “LASPA is committed to improving the state’s parking infrastructures and would soon be deploring more road parking signages across various areas in the State and called on members of the public to take responsibility for the infrastructures in their area.

    ‎LASPA set to regulate Valet Parking

    ‎The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has concluded plans to commence the regulation of Valet Parking Services across the State to guarantee a smoother and safer environment and eliminate all forms of indiscriminate parking.

    ‎This new initiative aims to standardise Valet Parking Services operating within Lagos State, including operations conducted on public roads, curb side spaces and private spaces.

    ‎According to the General Manager, Lagos State Parking Authority, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, under the new regulation, all Valet Parking Service providers in Lagos are expected to be duly registered with LASPA.

    She highlighted some of the registration requirements for interested companies eligibility as Valet Service Provider to include; submission of a valid Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), registration documents, proof of insurance coverage for customer vehicles, a list of employees with valid driver’s licenses, as well as police background checks for all valet drivers.

    ‎She added intending Valet Service Providers must present approved operating site plans and comprehensive safety and traffic management plans.

    ‎She noted that all Valet Service Operators will be mandated to follow a standardized operational procedures which includes, issuing receipts containing essential service details to customers, ensuring their attendants wear clearly identifiable uniforms, and restricting parking only to legally approved locations.

    ‎While stressing that all Valet staff are expected to have their LASPA permit and certification from the Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI), Adelabu, assured that LASPA will conduct a regular inspection to monitor compliance.
