LASPAGA hasn’t stopped operating in Lagos, says agency

The management of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators (LASPAGA) has denied reports that the agency has stopped operating in the state.

It described the report as ‘false and misleading’, adding that members should be wary of those who want to cause violence in the parks and garages.

Addressing a press conference in Lagos on Friday, January 12, the Secretary of LASPAGA, Alhaji Olamilekan Amusan noted that the agency under the leadership of Alhaji Suleiman Raji, the Oniba of Iba, Lagos, remains in full operations in line with the regulations of the state government.

He said: “It has become imperative for LASPAGA to clear the air on rumors, misinformation, and false claims going around in some media outlets that the operations of the committee have been purportedly terminated.

“This is to inform our members and operators in all our designated parks across the state to disregard the fake news and continue with their lawful operations as the committee remains in full operations in Lagos State.

“We call on our members and operators to ignore any provocation by purveyors of this fake news and their agents. The Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators as a transport organisation in Lagos remains a law-abiding and peaceful organisation.”

Amusan reiterated the organsation’s commitment to the welfare and safety of its members across the state.

LASPAGA to TUC: stop Monday protest

The Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators (LASPAGA) has warned the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to stop its protest scheduled for Monday, September 25.

The TUC on Friday had threatened to shut down economic activities in Lagos State on Monday over alleged interference of the state government in the activities of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN.

The protest, according to the TUC, is connected to the State government’s ban on the operation of RTEAN in Lagos.

In a statement yesterday, LASPAGA Secretary, Alhaji Abdulrahman Amusan, urged the TUC not to allow former RTEAN Chairman Alhaji Musa Mohammed (now national treasurer of TUC) to drag it into transport union matters.

It noted that the April 18 judgment by the National Industrial Court (NIC) does not affect the creation of LASPAGA, adding that the case is still pending at the Court of Appeal after the union filed an appeal suit.

LASPAGA urged the TUC to get its facts right before holding a ‘needless protest’. “In times past, the TUC is known to be a pro-masses organisation. Its fundamental objective is to protect workers from tyranny and exploitation, we are surprised that some people have hijacked the union for selfish and personal gains, thereby putting the integrity of the union on the line.

“We need to state that the suspension of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria was orchestrated by its members because of Musa Mohammed’s leadership style which didn’t go down well with its members. The crisis at Iyana Iba then prompted the Lagos State Government to intervene to foster peace, law, and order.
