    Daura youths endorses Buhari for 2nd term

    No fewer than 3,500 youths, under the auspices of Daura Youth Vanguard from Sarkinyara A ward Polling Unit 003 in Daura, have unanimously endorsed the candidature of Buhari in 2019.

    The endorsement meeting was held at the President’s polling unit in his hometown on Monday.

    Alhaji Aliyu Dahiru, who led the group to the electoral polling unit, emphasised the need for the president to unconditionally consider their request and recontest the presidential election in 2019, stressing “we are satisfied with the way and manner the president is leading this country”.

    The Sarkinyara A ward polling unit 003 was the unit where president Buhari casts his votes in all elections.

    He said some of the inspiring factors that led to the clarion call on Mr President were some of the unprecedented transformation introduced by the administration of Buhari.

    Dahiru said the call was timely and paramount especially considering how the president salvaged the nation from the precarious security challenges and diversified the economy into agriculture.

    He noted that the current fight against corruption is yielding dividend as sanity, probity, accountability and transparency are been restored in the public life, noting that Buhari has been an upright leader.

    Dahiru announced that the organisation would organised an endorsement rally across the five local government areas of Daura, Sandamu, Maiadua, Baure and Zango in February.

    “We expect about 150,000 youths to attend the rally scheduled to hold in Daura metropolis,” he said.

    Alhaji Lawal Aliyu, the traditional title holder of the Ubandoman Daura, and Alhaji Nalado Yusuf who is the Sarkin Sudan of Daura, also identified themselves with the course and described the call as timely and in the right direction.

    They said Daura elders would forever remained determined, committed and dedicated to the clarion call initiated by the youths, stressing that no politician in Nigeria matches Buhari’s integrity and honesty.

    The officials of the organisation included Messrs Ibrahim Killing, Jamilu Rabe, Ibrahim Lawal, Kabir Jafar and Lawal Yaro.

    Others are Usman Mani, Abdurrahaman Dahiru and Hamisu Mafia.

    Kaduna partners firm to improve telecom services in 15 LGAs

    The Kaduna State Government is working with a telecom company to mount 40 masts across the state to improve telecom services in 15 local government areas of the state, an official said on Wednesday.

    Mr Sheyin Olufade, Technical Assistant to Gov. Nasiru El-Rufai on Inter Agency Support, told newsmen in Gyuibi village, Kudan Local Government, after the flag off of the project.

    He said that the project, being implemented in partnership with TYDACOM Telecommunication Company, would also enhance security and the state’s economy.

    According to him, the aim is to promote businesses and prompt response to security concerns in any part of the state.

    “Primarily they should expect three things: One is improved service on the GSM phone, improvement on their social economy, because they would be able to communicate better – their business, farming gets improved- and also better security.” Olufade said.

    He said that work on the installation would be completed within four months, adding that it would create jobs for local people.

    In a separate interview with newsmen, Managing Director of the company, Prof. Akin Akiniyi said the project would cover 15 local government areas in the state that have poor telecom access.

    “Traditionally over the years, they have been trying to provide coverage for these local government areas, but the investment involved is so much and the return so small, but we can do it.” Akiniyi said.

    The Village Head of Gyuibi, Malam Lawal Aliyu, commended government for the project and urged people in the area to support it.

  • Herbal medicine dealer docked for defrauding blind man of N1.5m

    A herbal medicine dealer, Sanusi Mohammed, who allegedly defrauded a blind man of N1.5 million, was on Monday charged before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    The accused, 60, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin, told the court that the accused committed the offences in 2015 at Okobaba Street, Ebute Meta in Lagos.

    He said that the accused fraudulently obtained the money from Lawal Aliyu, promising that he would introduce him into oil and gas business, a representation he knew was false.

    “When the accused failed to introduce him to the business, the complainant  asked for a refund of his money and the accused refused to give it to him,’’ he said.

    The offences contravened Sections 280 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate A.T. Elias, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with two responsible sureties in like sum.

    He said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    The case was adjourned until June 1 for mention.

  • Suspected pipeline vandals reject trial, want Yoruba interpreter

    The eight men currently standing trial for pipeline vandalism on Tuesday objected to being tried without a Yoruba interpreter.

    Their arraignment at the Federal High Court in Lagos was billed for Tuesday, but the accused persons stunned the prosecutor, Mr. Justin Enang, when they claimed they don’t understand English.

    The development stalled their arraignment, leading to an adjournment till October 3 when an interpreter is expected to be provided.

    The accused persons are – Fidelis Bayo, Motiu Awawu, Lawal Aliyu, Akorede Ogunde, Afeez Oladiti, Opeyemi Bolaji, Kola Waheed and Rilwan Adewale.

    When the case was called, the accused persons, who were earlier overheard conversing in English, said they will not understand the charge unless it is read in Yoruba.

    When the court’s registrar read one of the charges and asked: “Do you understand the charge?” the defendants said “No.”

    Enang prayed the judge to allow the registrar to interpret the charge, but Justice Mohammed Yunusa said the registrar is Igbo and only partially understood Yoruba.

    He adjourned to enable the prosecutor produce an interpreter and ordered the continued remand of the accused persons at the Ikyoi prisons.

    The men were alleged to have committed the offence on August 13 at No. 52, Onikoro Agboyi Town in Alapere Lagos.

    They allegedly vandalised a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) oil pipeline in the area, and scooped out about 10,000 litres of petroleum products for illegal sale.

    The products are valued at N970, 000.
