    Lawmaker equips health centres

    The lawmaker representing Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency, Ife Ehindero, at the weekend launched Ibidero Pregnancy Initiative and equipped health centres in the constituency.

    At an event held in Oyin Akoko area of the constituency in Ondo State, the lawmaker also gave out bursary awards to indigent students to mark his 100 days in office.

    Ehindero, who was elected in February to replace the former occupier of the seat, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, after his appointment as the Minister of Interior by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, promised to do more before he turns one year in office.

    Stakeholders at the event expressed optimism about the performance of the young lawmaker and assured him of their support

    Ondo State Commissioner for Environment, Niyi Oseni, hailed Ehindero for not departing from the route of development established by the former occupier of the seat, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

    Mushin lawmaker reiterates commitment to digital skills empowerment

    Hon. Toyin Fayinka, member representing Mushin Federal Constituency II at the House of Representatives, has restated his commitment to support young people in acquiring skills in digital and information technology.

    Fayinka reiterated this at the graduation ceremony of over 100 young learners of the maiden edition of the Imole Tech Hub Initiative.

    The six-week programme was designed to empower trainees with digital skills including computer graphic design, use of Microsoft office software database management systems administration, web design and development.

    In his goodwill speech, Hon Fayinka said he is willing to do more for his Constituency to support the State Government on other intervention programmes

    Fayinka said: “This is just the beginning. The significance of this programme is to empower our youths with skills and knowledge needed in information technology. This initiative is a promise fulfilled to the youths during my campaign.

    “With the skills and knowledge acquired, these graduating students can now compete in the tech industry while adding positive value to the society.

    “More so,we will do more in empowering our youths and pave the way to their success.”

    United Nations Ambassador on Quality Education in Africa, Adekunle Badmus, who also spoke at the graduation ceremony announced that the graduating students will be getting free training on export.

    “When you learn that with your tech skill, you will be able to work with anybody,” he emphasized.

    Some of the graduating students shared some of the knowledge gained

    “I studied Microsoft administration. Under it are Microsoft Word, Excel PowerPoint and outlook.

    I learnt a lot on getting here and I want to thank God for giving Hon. Fayinka the power and capacity to sponsor this training.”

    “Over 100 of us have benefited from this initiative and we are now going into the world to showcase this skill,” another trainee said.

    Commending Hon. Fayinka for the initiative, All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart in Mushin, Prince Adewale Arogundade, said the constituents have never regretted voting him into office.

    “I must say that Mushin has never regretted voting for Hon. Fayinka. His efforts to positively impact the community through various initiatives, ranging from educational advancements to skill acquisition and empowerment programmes,deserve commendation, regardless of political affiliation, religion, or ethnicity. Additionally, his approach in addressing the needs of the constituents demonstrates the positive character he embodies,” he said.

    Ex-Oyo lawmaker jailed 16 months

    An Oyo State Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogbomoso has sentenced a former lawmaker, Dr. Folaranmi Oyebamiji, to 16 months’  imprisonment for conspiracy, false publication, forgery, murder threats and conducts likely to cause breach of peace.

    Chief Magistrate Muideen Salami however granted the convict N500,000 fine in lieu of the sentence.

    Salami sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment for conspiracy with option of N150,000 fine, three months for false publication/defamation or N150,000 fine, six months for forgery or N100,000 fine and one month for threat to murder or N100,000 fine.

    The sentence is run concurrently, Magistrate Salami said.

    Oyebamiji,  a former House of Representatives member from Ogbomoso South, was arraigned in 2021 by the Oyo State Police Command with a 94-year-old Oko Town traditional title holder, Mathew Wojuade Ademola, and five others –  Wojuade Gbemiga, Wojuade Philip, Bello Semiu Opeyemi, Eyolade Joshua Adewumi, and Adeniyi Idowu.

    They were charged with alleged conspiracy to murder High Chief Solomon Ojedayo in Oko Town, a suburb of Ogbomoso.

    After the prosecution had called five witnesses against the defendants, the six other defendants except Oyebamji informed the court on December 22, 2023, through Dr. Tayo Oyewale, that they had deposed to separate affidavits in Ibadan High Court Registry in which they had settled with the complainant,Chief Ojedayo. Their names were therefore struck out from the charge, leaving Oyebamji to open his defence to the charge brought against him.

    At the conclusion of trial and submission of written addresses, the court yesterday reviewed the case and found Oyebamji guilty.

    Seven hundred in Surulere Constituency I in Lagos State have benefited from gifts given by their lawmaker, Desmond Elliot.

    Two men also got LagRide vehicles, making it seven given out in eight months.

    The lawmaker said the gifts were to support widows and widowers to augment their income after Yuletide.

    He said: “We do this every year but I discovered many don’t know about it because it is usually done within the office. This is January and many have spent a lot during Yuletide. So, this is to support them.

    “Also, it is not all about the gifts, but more importantly to let them know we are not far from them.

    “We are not stopping here. By February 4, which is my birthday, we will be giving out 500 JAMB forms and organise a football competition among secondary schools in Surulere. We want to preach against cultism, drug abuse and other vices…”

    On the coming by-election, Elliot said: “I will also remind people that the February 3 by-election for House of Representatives is here and our candidate is Fuad Laguda. I am glad the people are happy with the predecessor, Femi Gbajabiamila, who has also given us his protégé…”

    A LagRide beneficiary, Moses Alade, said: “I am grateful to the lawmaker for doing this. I was the first to submit everything required to qualify for the car and I am happy this was possible…’’

    Lawmaker gifts constituents New Year’s package

    A Councillor representing Ward E in Somolu Local Government, Mobolaji Teluwo, has distributed New Year’s gifts to artisans, widows, aged and others at Okesuna/Alase in the ward.

    Teluwo urged party faithful of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and residents of the ward to be very prayerful and stay out of trouble during the Yuletide.

    The lawmaker said he had contributed  to the development of his community, Okesuna/Alase, by constructing boreholes across the four zones of the ward.

    He also rendered support to youths through jobs opportunity.

    He thanked the council Chairman, AbdulHamed Salawu, for providing a conducive atmosphere for people to thrive.

    The member representing Afikpo North West in Ebonyi State House of Assembly,  Kingsley Ikoro, has expressed sadness about the number of collapsed buildings, cracked buildings, health and other environmental hazards witnessed in Ameta Agba in Ibii/Ozizza autonomous community, following stone blasting by a mining company.

    Ikoro, who expressed the concern on the floor of the assembly during its sitting, noted that many had been hospitalised, while others had lost their homes and properties.

    He called for immediate action against further blasting less than a kilometre to residential areas.

    Ikoro, the leader of the assembly, described the action of the company as wicked and inhumane.

    He accused the quarry company of blasting stones less than just one kilometre to residential houses, against the mining regulation template of Ebonyi State Government.

    “The action of the company can best be described as wicked and man’s inhumanity to man. You cannot have a quarry site where you do blasting less than a kilometre to where there are residential areas. Quarry sites are supposed to be situated at least three kilometres away from residential areas.” 

    Ikoro expressed concern that besides causing environmental and health hazards to the people of the area, the company also allegedly took mineral resources got from the host community to build roads in other communities, neglecting the host community.

    Lawmaker begins free medical outreach for constituents

    Dr. Nkemkanma Kama Foundation has launched medical health outreach for the people of Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency.

    The outreach, which began yesterday at Oshiri and Isu communities in Onicha Local Government, is powered by the member representing the constituency, Mr. Nkemkanma Kama.

    At least 11,000 residents of the 11 communities in the constituency across three local governments will benefit from the five-day programme.

    Medical personnel were on ground to offer medical care to the people, which include: eye care with free reading glasses, maternal care, paediatric care, gynaecological care, surgical consultation, laboratory investigations and general medical care.

    Kama, launching the event at Oshiri Central School, noted that it was in fulfilment of his campaign promises to his constituents.

    Represented by the member representing Onicha East Constituency in the House of Assembly, Celestine Ogba, the lawmaker said the programme was in line with the Peoples Charter of Needs of the Governor Ogbonnaya Nwifuru administration.

    The coordinator of the health outreach, Dr. Napolion Ekem, described the medical outreach as a unique one.

    A beneficiary, Mrs. Okoro Doris, thanked the lawmaker for the programme, which she said would alleviate the medical challenges facing the people.

    A stakeholder in the area, Moses Chima, lauded the lawmaker for the programme and for keeping to his campaign promises.

    Kwara State Police Command said it has arrested five persons in connection with the abduction of the wife and two children of a lawmaker in the House of Assembly.

    The lawmaker, Lawal Ayanshola Soliu, represents Ipaiye/Malete/Olooru Constituency,  Moro Local Government.

    The victims were reportedly abducted on Monday.

    It was gathered that a gang of suspected kidnappers invaded the home of the lawmaker in Ilorin at about 1am with AK-47 rifles and fired gunshots before kidnapping the victims.

    Sources, however, said the wife and two children of the legislator had regained freedom.

    They were rescued on Wednesday about 8pm, following discreet efforts by the security agencies and the state government, a source said.

    “Five members of the gang that abducted the victims have been arrested, following discreet intelligence and surveillance by the security operatives involved,” one of the sources said.

    Police spokesperson Okasanmi Ajayi confirmed the arrest of the suspected kidnappers.

    “Yes, five people have been arrested. They are helping with ongoing investigation,” he said.

    Lawmaker empowers farmers with fertilizer

    Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (Ondo Central) has distributed hundreds of fertilizer bags to farmers in the district as part of efforts towards enhancing agricultural productivity and contribute to food sufficiency.

    The beneficiaries were drawn from the six local governments of the district which include Akure South, Akure North, Ondo West, Ondo East, Idanre and Ifedore council areas. 

    Speaking during the distribution of the product, Adegbonmire stated the gesture was in tandem with the initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to boost food sufficiency through the agricultural sector.

    The distributed fertilisers included 156 bags of NPK fertilizer and 68 bags of UREA fertilizer, aimed at supporting various crops such as cassava, rice, cocoa, tomato, and maize.

    He expressed commitment to the senatorial district and assured that he would continue to do more for the district. 

    The lawmaker said the move was a practical step towards achieving agricultural growth and ensuring a stable food supply within Nigeria.

    According to him, the initiative underlined the commitment of lawmakers to supporting their constituents and advancing the nation’s agricultural sector.

    The beneficiaries of the programme consisted of several farming associations in the district, including Adebiyi Oluwalanu, Chairman of the Tomato Farmers Association in Ondo state and south west, Mr. Oloruntoba, State Chairman of the Cassava Farmers Association; Mr. Akinriade Kayode, State Chairman of the Maize grower Association; Mr. Adebayo Abayomi, State Secretary of the Cocoa Farmers Association; and Prince George Oladapo, State Chairman of the Rice Farmers Association.

    The leaders of the farmers associations who received the fertilizers on behalf of members of the associations expressed their gratitude to the Senator for helping them to boost their ability to produce more for citizens to consume.

  • Lawmaker urges party on public service

    House of Representatives member Ganiyu Johnson has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rededicate itself to the service of the people.

    The Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency, Lagos State  representative, who spoke shortly after the Election Petition Tribunal upheld his electoral victory, said it was due to the overwhelming support from the people.

    He thanked the constituents and party leaders for his victory.

    He thanked APC National leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for his fatherly role, noting that the party stalwart has been supportive before, during and after the election.

    Johnson said his constituency would experience a lot of economic growth, infrastructural renewal and empowerment.

    He added that his representation would be inclusive, assuring that all will benefit from the party’s plan irrespective of affiliation.

    Johnson’s lawyer, Mr. Kayode Ademiluyi, said that the election was free, fair and credible.

    He said: “The electoral umpire did what it should do,  everything went on fine during the March 9, election.

    “I don’t think that this election can be challenged further because if a petitioner had challenged the result, the onus was on him to prove his allegations.

    “We believe that any result declared by INEC was authentic and whoever wanted to challenge that ought to bring substantial fact. The case has been proven in our favour and we are happy about it.”
