    Layi, in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, revealed that Davido has been his most supportive friend since before he gained fame.

    “Davido is my most supportive friend, even before my fame. Davido’s family has always shown me support,” he said.

    He added that Davido’s family has always shown him support, and he also praised Tunji Adeleke and his family for being a constant source of motivation. 

    “Tunji Adeleke is also my close friend. The whole family is lovely and supportive. They have supported me right from the very beginning. Big shout out to Davido and the Adelekes,” Layi added.

    Born Isaac Olayiwola, Layi Wasabi recounted his inspiring story during a recent event, explaining how heartbreak fueled his determination to succeed.

    Seizing the opportunity that came with his newfound independence, Layi started posting content daily, and his consistency eventually led to his success.

    He said: “I would do some funny videos, I wouldn’t share it with people. But I would show it to my friends. So when things ended with this particular person because I wasn’t showing seriousness with my life. I didn’t have anything to lose, I started to spam you people. 

    “I started to drop content on a daily basis and as God would have it I had my first viral video, I had my second viral video, I had my third viral video, then she called me. That was the journey. It was something I was passionate about and I worked towards it relentlessly.”

    LAYI WASABI: I was a notorious lawbreaker growing up

    Popular humourist and content creator, Olayiwola Isaac aka Layi Wasabi has described himself as a notorious lawbreaker while growing up.

    The 22-year-old thespian from Oshogbo shared this insight during his presentation at a TEDx conference in Lagos.

    Wasabi, who is a professional lawyer, recounted how his brother mocked him when he chose to study law at the university.

    “Growing up, I was actually a lawbreaker, a notorious lawbreaker,” he began. “When my brother heard that I gained admission to the university to study law, he said, not only now would you be a law-abiding person, you would be a custodian of the law. I hope the law is in safe hands. Those were his words exactly.”

    Wasabi initially lived in a small town in Oshogbo but when he made his big break three years ago with comedic skits; he relocated to Ibadan and Lagos.

    Reflecting on his journey, he emphasised the importance of self-motivation and determination, stating, “I always imagined myself as a globetrotter, entertaining people worldwide. I aspired to be a TV star, feeling like a small-town giant longing for a life in the spotlight. But for me, Oshogbo was just a starting point.”

    For his incredible talent and creativity, he won ‘Best Digital Content Category’ at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2024. In 2023, he won ‘The Emerging Force’ category at the Trendupp Awards, ‘The Revelation of the Year,’ at the Nigeria Comedy Award and was also nominated for The Future Awards Africa Prize in Content Creation.

    Content creators, Korty EO, Layi Wasabi, and Taaooma have been featured by Rolling Stone, the US magazine.

    The magazine, in its Creators Special 2024, celebrated the content creators for “keeping their Nigerian communities and culture front of mind and finding success”.

    It wrote: “Local brands are often eager to give social media stars ad deals. Some of these creators say they want to expand their audiences and profitability and are looking elsewhere to do it.”

    Korty, whose real name is Eniola Olanrewaju, disclosed that her latest hobby is “making money” in the interview.

    She added that she wanted to expand her platform’s reach to create more opportunities for Nigerian creatives to tell their stories.

    “I can do that across the globe and it will connect with every single person. We are very industrious and ambitious people, but there is also a lot of poverty here. That is the importance of collaborations with other people on other continents. It just brings more eyes to the beauty happening here,” she said.

    On her part, Maryam Apaokagi, popularly known as Taaooma, said she wanted to make movies and “definitely” a Western audience.

    The skit maker also added that she believes in staying true to herself and tailoring her content to her community.

    “When you stretch your hands out to other places, your community is going to support you. So, that is what I have tried to do,” she said.

    The US-based magazine described Isaac Olayiwola, known as Layi, as “one of the most recognisable faces on the young Nigerian internet”.

    It said Layi’s content plays into Pan-African folktales, which “reflects hope and resourcefulness in harsh conditions”.

    “What sells Layi is him reflecting what Nigerian life actually is,” the magazine wrote.

    Comedian and actor, Isaac Olayiwola popularly known as Layi Wasabi, has shared a personal story about his childhood experiences.

    On the ’90s Baby’ podcast, he revealed that he was physically disciplined by his uncle, particularly one who traveled for two hours to punish him for poor academic performance.

    Layi Wasabi said he failed physics and struggled with mathematics, leading to his uncle’s stern action.

    He recounted the incident, describing how he assisted his uncle with his luggage when he arrived, unaware of the punishment that awaited him.

    “I had uncles that flogged me. I had one that travelled to flog me. He travelled for two hours from Ibadan to Oshogbo to flog me.

    “At the time, I passed biology, chemistry but I failed physics. And I had stronger subjects in the art department so it was recommended that I did art. So my mum was upset I wasn’t taking school seriously.

    “She called one of my uncles, he said don’t worry I’ll be in Osogbo tomorrow. I was the one that opened the gate for him, assisted him to carry his luggage from his car.

    “And he sat down, drank water and said bring you report card. He went through all the courses and said, ‘You failed physics, you didn’t do well in mathematics. Lie down there.’ And I knew what my fate was then,” he said.

    Recently, Layi Wasabi also shared his views on relationships, preferring the term “partnership” over “girlfriend.”

    Comedian and actor Layi Wasabi has dismissed the traditional concept of a “girlfriend,” stating he doesn’t believe in it.

    He said: “I don’t believe in the concept of a girlfriend. I believe in partnership. I don’t believe in that phase of girlfriends. I start with courtship. I have to see the wife in the person from the beginning.”

    The host, Chinasa, inferred, “That speaks a level of focus. That’s fine.”

    The skit maker said his ideal partner is a tall woman, emphasising that height is the first thing he notices in women.

    Nollywood actor, Jigan Babaoja, has reacted to the recent skit of popular skitmaker, Layi Wasabi throwing jabs at him.

    Babaoja, who is physically challenged, bantered Layi Wasabi for mimicking his style of walking in the video.

    Layi Wasabi in an attempt to add humour, tacitly sent a message to viewers, imitated Babaoja’s steps at the concluding part of the video.

    Reacting, Jigan Babaoja took to the comment section to drop a remark.

    He affirmed that Layi intentionally mimicked his steps and promised to come for the skit maker.
