Giggs eyes Everton or Leicester job

Ryan Giggs has confirmed he would be interested in the managerial vacancies at Leicester and Everton.

Everton sacked Ronald Koeman on Monday after a 5-2 defeat to Arsenal left them in the relegation places, while Leicester parted company with Craig Shakespeare six days earlier, when the Foxes had also slipped into the Premier League’s bottom three.

Giggs, who is a co-owner of Salford City, has been open to the opportunity to move into management since leaving his position as Manchester United assistant manager following Jose Mourinho’s arrival.

David Seaman says Ronald Koeman is still a quality manager and will get a big job at another club

Speaking in the latest Super 6 Class of ’92 Diary, Giggs said: “I think you look at those two teams, Leicester being champions two seasons ago, Everton being a fantastic club with a fantastic history, for me these are clubs I would be interested in.

“However, there are a lot of coaches out there who would be interested in those positions.

Peter Reid says it was a big, big mistake not to replace Romelu Lukaku

“I’ve said all along that I’d be open to clubs which share the ambitions of myself. I want to improve clubs and improve players, to enjoy working for them and for players to enjoy the challenge.

“There are clubs in the Premier League which would be good jobs but also in the Championship and League One. It’s more about the philosophy for me than the stature of the club.”

Asked whether he was surprised to see two vacancies come up so early in the season, Giggs added: “I don’t think you’re surprised in this climate that clubs change managers so quickly.

“Obviously Everton spent a lot of money while Leicester’s owners’ expectations are higher after what they achieved.”

Leicester ponder as FIFA rejects Adrien Silva transfer

Leicester are considering whether to take their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after FIFA rejected the registration of midfielder Adrien Silva.

The £25million Deadline Day deal with Sporting Lisbon arrived onto FIFA’s Transfer Matching System (TMS) 14 seconds after the transfer deadline passed on August 31.

After an investigation that has left Silva in limbo in the Midlands and unable to train, a FIFA spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that “the decision of the Single Judge of the Players’ Status Committee … is rejected”.

Leicester have no further grounds for appeal with FIFA and they are now considering whether to appeal to CAS in order to force through his registration, accept Silva as a Leicester player even though he cannot play until January, or cancel the transfer altogether.

It is however understood that Sporting Lisbon consider the deal done, are expecting payment from the Foxes, and are prepared to fight the Premier League club legally if they try to return the player.

Documentation that confirmed the agreement between Leicester and Sporting for the £22m transfer of Silva on deadline day arrived on FIFA’s computerised system 14 seconds after the deadline

Documentation that confirmed the agreement between Leicester and Sporting for the £22m transfer of Silva on deadline day arrived on FIFA’s computerised system 14 seconds after the deadline

No payments have yet been made in relation to the deal, Sky Sports News has been told.

Leicester officials were confident the papers were sent before the midnight deadline, with a one-hour extension having been granted by FIFA for the international transfer, but the TMS showed the documents were late in arriving.

FIFA’s full statement following the probe read: “We can confirm the following decision of the Single Judge of the Players’ Status Committee:

“The petition made by the Football Association for permission to request the International Transfer Certificate for the player Adrien Silva and subsequently register the player for its affiliated club, Leicester City FC, is rejected.”

Iheanacho returns for Leicester, to join Eagles on Monday

NIGERIA coach Gernot Rohr received good news on Saturday evening after one of the strikers he has named in his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon made Leicester City’s matchday squad.

New signing Kelechi Iheanacho had been struggling with a toe injury since completing his move to The Foxes, an ailment that made him miss the league game against Brighton last weekend, and probably the League Cup match with Sheffield United.

It is envisaged that the Leicester City number eight will join the Super Eagles training camp latest Monday, the same day that teammate Wilfred Ndidi is expected in Abuja.

Former Watford star Odion Ighalo was the first foreign based professional to arrive the Super Eagles camp on Friday, and he’ll soon be joined by Chippa United netminder Daniel Akpeyi.

    • Fenerbahce targets Eagles star

Super Eagles and Leicester City forward Ahmed Musa says he is looking forward to a better season in England than the one he had last season after marrying his new wife Juliet Adeh last month.

Musa struggled for form and consistency following his big money move from CSKA Moscow to the former Premier League Champions, and at a point failed to make the matchday squad in some of their games.

The 24 year old puts it’s down to issues in his marriage, and after divorcing his wife of four years and mother of his two kids Jamila, Musa told Complete Sports that he is once again happy following his marriage to Juliet.

“Marriage is not new to me but I believe it was a right move to make when I did. The past remains in the past.

I’m happy now and I think well and I can focus on my game which suffered a bit.” Musa said.

Linked with a move away from the King Power stadium, the speedy winger who is also comfortable as a forward insist he has a future at the club, hence he is not willing to consider a move away.

Nigerian Ahmed Musa and his Leicester City teammate Jamie Vardy have emerged as Fenerbahce’s primary transfer targets, according to DHA.

Fenerbahce are looking to boost their attacking ranks, with Dutchman Robin van Persie set to leave the club in the European summer and West Africans strikers Emmanuel Emenike and Moussa Sow also expected to depart.

DHA claims that the Turkish club will make an offer for the Foxes pair soon and hope that the promise of European is enough to attract them to Istanbul.

Musa, 24, signed for Leicester last season but struggled to make a major impact at the King Power Stadium. The Nigerian scored four goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.

  • Ndidi’s award excites Amiesimaka

    Ndidi’s award excites Amiesimaka

Ex-Green Eagles Winger, Adokiye Amiesimaka, says recent young player award bestowed on Wilfred Ndidi by English Premiership Club, Leicester, is a big plus for Nigerian football.

Ndidi, 20, a Super Eagles midfielder and former Nigerian youth international, joined the EPL side from Genk FC of Belgium.

Amiesimaka told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone from Port Harcourt on Wednesday that the award by the former league champions showed that Ndidi was a top quality player.

“For him to be given such an award by Leicester who won the Premier League only last season is obviously a plus.

“It means he is a top quality player and its impact on us here is good, by virtue of the fact that he is a member of the national team,’’ he said.

Amiesimaka, former Chairman, Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, said the award was also an indication that Nigerian football had a quality player in one of the best organised leagues in the world.

“Even more importantly is what we’ll do with that plus, how do we make the most of that in the national team and how will it benefit us?’’ he said.

He said that the derivation of the award should be translated to his optimal use in the national team to achieve good results in major national and international matches.

Amiesimaka said that the welfare of Ndidi and other members of the national team should be a priority to excel in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying matches.

NAN reports that Ndidi started his career playing for the Lagos-based Nath Boys Academy in the Lagos Junior League (J-League) and won numerous accolades.

He then played as a central defender for Nigeria’s youth team, the Golden Eaglets in 2013 for the African U-17 Championship.

He later played for the Manu Garba U-20 youth team of Nigeria that played in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Ndidi was called up to the Senior Nigeria team, the Super Eagles, on Oct. 8, 2015, making his debut in the friendly game against DR Congo.

He also played again a few days later in the 3-0 win against Cameroon, when he replaced Mikel Obi in the 63rd minutes.

He was selected by Nigeria for their 35-man provisional squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Huth’s own goal gives Arsenal win over Leicester

Arsenal kept up their top-four chase as a late Robert Huth own-goal gave them a lone goal victory over defending champions, Leicester City.

The home supporters at Emirates Stadium seemed set for a deflating evening before Nacho Monreal’s shot found the bottom corner via the German defender’s chest four minutes from time.

Alexis Sanchez had rattled the bar and been denied by Huth’s last-ditch challenge in the Gunners’ best chances before the goal.

But, Leicester also threatened, with Riyad Mahrez bringing a superb save out of Petr Cech in the first half, and then had penalty appeals turned down.

Arsenal are now three points behind Manchester United and four behind fourth-placed Manchester City, having played the same number of games – at least one of the Manchester pair will drop points when both meet on Thursday.

Liverpool, in third, are six points ahead of the Londoners having played two more games.

Meanwhile, Tottenham kept up the pressure on the League leaders, Chelsea, as Christian Eriksen’s superb long-range strike secured a hard-fought victory at Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Spurs had struggled to break down a disciplined Palace side for much of the game and it looked like they would have to settle for a point.

But Eriksen fired into the bottom corner from 30 yards late on to keep Spurs within four points of Chelsea with five games remaining.

Also, Sunderland were left on the brink of relegation after losing to fellow strugglers, Middlesbrough, in the Tees-Wear derby, who registered their first victory of 2017.

  • Ndidi to Leicester fans: you made it happen!

Ndidi to Leicester fans: you made it happen!

Nigerian international Winifred Ndidi has given thumbs up to Leicester fans for providing the needed massive support as the league defending champions booked a place into the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions league for the first time.

Goals from Wes Morgan and Marc Albrighton ensured the Foxes’ passage to the quarterfinals of the European premier competition after they recorded a 3-2 aggregate win over their Spanish counterparts Sevilla.

The former Genk midfielder took to the social media to thank the fans but admitted that the team fought to the finish even as he thanked God for the result achieved so far.

“We gave it everything we had, we left everything out there. What a Great support from the fans… #nextround #ucl #lcfc #thankyouLord,” Ndidi wrote on his official twitter account.

Ndidi has been in super form for Leicester who appear to be rediscovering their form after strings of loses in the premier league. Craig Shakespeare, who was recently confirmed in charge after taking over from sacked Coach Claudio Ranieri has so far been enjoying some impressive results including the 3-1 defeat of Hull city that pushed the team up the log away from the relegation zone. Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa was missing as the foxes booked a place in the Champions league quarterfinal.  The former CSKA Moscow ace however stands a chance of playing a vital role in the next round of the Champions league as his experience will come handy. In 2014 while playing for CSKA Moscow,  Musa score 82nd minute consolation goal in a 5-1 defeat by AS Roma.

  • Leicester confirms Shakespeare appointment

    Leicester confirms Shakespeare appointment

Premier League champions Leicester City have appointed Craig Shakespeare as manager until the end of the season.
Shakespeare was formerly assistant to Claudio Ranieri but now gets the chance to stake his claim for the job on a long-term basis after the Italian was sacked just over nine months after leading the Foxes to the most remarkable title success in Premier League history.
Having stepped into the breach on a caretaker role following Ranieri’s departure, Shakespeare has led Leicester to successive home wins over Liverpool and Hull City.
Leicester host Sevilla on Tuesday, nursing a 2-1 deficit from the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie that proved to be Ranieri’s last game at the helm.
Vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: “Craig’s skills as a coach and the high regard in which he is held by everyone the club were well known to us. We always knew the team would be in good hands when we asked him to take charge a fortnight ago.
“He has initiated the type of positive response that we hoped change would bring, showing great leadership qualities and composure under considerable pressure to produce two very important results. We have asked him to continue to lead the team this season and we are very happy that he has accepted.”
Shakespeare is in his second spell at Leicester, having been brought back to the club by the Srivaddhanaprabha family following the appointment of Nigel Pearson in 2011.
The 53-year-old, who has been at Leicester for seven of the last eight seasons, is also a part of Gareth Southgate’s coaching setup with the England national team.
Leicester are 15th in the Premier League, three points clear of the relegation zone.

  • ETEBO IN LEICESTER’S RADAR

    ETEBO IN LEICESTER’S RADAR

NIGERIA youngish international, Oghenekaro Etebo, who plays for Turkish giant side, Fenerbahce is on the radar of English champions Leicester.

A source close to the Istanbul giants told Turkish-Football that Fenerbahce representatives will fly out to meet with Oghenekaro Etebo later this month. Per-the-source, Fenerbahce plan to establish contact with Etebo during the international break in March. Fenerbahce will also send scouts to watch Etebo for Nigeria’s games against Senegal and Burkina Faso.

Fenerbahce are planning wholesale changes to their squad next season following a turbulent past 12 months. The Yellow Canaries find themselves in third place in the Turkish League and a full nine points behind leaders Besiktas.

To make matters worse, Besiktas also have a game in hand and can go 12 points clear this weekend. Meanwhile, The Sun has reported that both Arsenal and Leicester City are interested in the 21-year-old midfielder.

  • Chelsea beat reigning champions Leicester to go 7 points clear

Marcos Alonso scored twice as Chelsea beat Leicester on Saturday to move seven points clear at the top of the English Premier League in spite of Diego Costa’s absence.

The Blues were without their top scorer after a training ground dispute over his fitness, amid reports he has been offered a lucrative move to China.

That saga did not affect them at the King Power Stadium however, with Eden Hazard setting up Alonso to fire home after only six minutes.

The Spanish wing-back added his second early in the second half when his shot from the edge of the area was deflected in.

Pedro made sure of the points with a deft header from Willian’s cross.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Leicester, lining up in a new-look 3-5-2 formation, struggled to find a way back into the game.

Ahmed Musa had tested Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois before his side fell behind, but the defending champions did not manage another shot on target.

Before kick-off, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte had played down any row involving Costa, claiming he was not in his squad because of a back injury.

Whatever the truth behind Costa’s absence, the Blues showed again that they can win without the Spain striker, who has scored 14 goals and provided five assists for them this season.

Chelsea initially had to work harder for the points than they did when Costa was suspended in their 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on Dec. 26.

NAN reports that it was the only other league game he has missed in 2016/2017.

Again they used Hazard to lead the line rather than turn to £33 million summer signing Michy Batshuayi, who was left on the bench and still awaits his first league start.

Alonso, rather than Hazard, will get the headlines on this occasion, but Chelsea’s dominant performance was further evidence it will be hard to dislodge them from top spot.

This was Chelsea’s 12th clean sheet in 21 games and, even without Costa’s belligerent presence upfront, they remain difficult to break down and dangerous when they come forward.

Conte’s side had seen their 13-game winning streak ended by Tottenham in their previous Premier League game, but that remains their only defeat since the end of September.

Spurs’ emphatic win over West Brom earlier on Saturday had reduced the Blues’ lead to four points, but if Chelsea are feeling any pressure in the title race they did not show it here.

Their form is becoming ominous for the chasing pack, and Liverpool — their nearest rivals before the weekend — can ill afford to lose any more ground.

They face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri, named FIFA’s coach of the year this week, attempted to match Chelsea’s formation by playing with wing-backs of his own.

But his experiment did not pay off as Albrighton and Ben Chilwell failed to make the same impact as their opposite numbers, Alonso and Victor Moses.

To compound their woes, the Foxes also struggled to create chances.

England striker Jamie Vardy was back from suspension to lead their attack, but he made little impression apart from playing one dangerous cross and did not manage a single shot.

Leicester are still six points above the relegation zone in spite of this defeat.

But, with Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani and Daniel Amarty away at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ranieri must find a better blend with the players still at his disposal.

Chelsea host struggling Hull on Jan. 22, while Leicester travel to Southampton on the same day, hoping for their first away win of a disappointing domestic season.
