    Leo clubs holds ‘Flow with confidence’ workshop, gift 200 school girls sanitary towels

    Lagos axis Leo Clubs, the youth wing of Lions Club International District 404B2 Nigeria recently organised a workshop, ‘Flow with Confidence’ for over 200 girls of Government Technical College, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

    The workshop centered on ‘Talks about menstrual hygiene and Distribution of sanitary pads to young girls.’

    According to Lion Princess Abosede Abiola, Leo Advisor for Lagos Apex Leo Club District 404B2, who delivered an inciting lecture on menstrual hygiene, the event was to equip the girl-child with necessary information on menstruation and help them flow with confidence.

    “We’re here to let them know that they need not be ashamed as girls when menstruating; we are here to also teach them menstrual hygiene, so that when they’re menstruating, they would not contract infection; generally teach them to live healthy lifestyle and boost their confidence. We are also giving them sanitary pads, free. The project is organised by Lagos axis Leo clubs comprising: Lagos Apex Leo Club, Ikeja Viva L’amoure, Lagos Legacy Leo Club, Lagos Metro Leo Club, Ikeja Metro Leo Club, OOU Ago Iwoye Leo Club, amongst others.”

    The 11th District President of Leo District 404 B2 Nigeria, Leo Ayodele Kayode Simon said the clubs do this regularly to reach out to young girls. “We all know that some people experience varying degrees of abdominal pain during menstruation, so we give them orientation on what steps to take and also give them pads and shaving sticks to maintain cleanliness.”

    College Principal, Mrs S. O. Soyobo commended the Leo members for regularly impacting the institution, citing the donation of sets of computers to the college during the International Youth Day in August; while the Director, Co-curricular and Gender Unit, Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board, LASTVEB, Mrs. Osas urged the girls to emulate the young Leo members and be of good behaviour.

    The College Vice Principal, who is also 1st District Vice Governor, Lions Club District 4040B2, Lion Oluwakemi Eribake, commended the thoughtfulness of the young Leos for the event, adding that “it’s going to increase their confidence as they go about their daily activities, including schooling.”
