    Great line-up FOR Gidi Fest

    AN impressive line-up of artistes has been released for the much anticipated Gidi Fest, a one-day beach festival which enters its 3rd edition this year.

    Scheduled to take place at the Eko Atlantic on March 26, the final list includes Ycee, Koker, Lola Rae, Danagog, Poe, IKON, Saeon, Rachel Kerr, Ms. Jaie, Godwinstrings, GGB Dance Crew, Dice Ailes, Organised Noise and DJ’s, DJ Poppaey, DJ Java and DJ Consequence.

    This list follows previously announced artistes such as Davido, Tiwa Savage, K.O (South Africa) Phyno, Yemi Alade, Ricky Rick (South Africa), Timaya, DJObi, Adekunle Gold and Small Doctor.

    Event organisers, Eclipse Live Africa, announce that City FM’s Sensei Uche and Nomuzi (South Africa) will host the festival, stating their effort to make this year’s Gidi Fest one of the continent’s biggest musical events this year.

    Organisers say, “During the day, the beach volleyball and football tournaments with celebrity team captains, give fans a chance to square off against their favourite stars. The Pepsi sponsored Football tournament captains are; BOJ, #NothingtoDoInLagos and OAP Jimmie’s team. The Red Bull sponsored volleyball tournament, consist of Zainab Balogun’s Team, Folu Storms Team, Ema Nyra’s Team and The Fan Team. There is a N50, 000 cash prize for tournament winners. Tournaments hold between 1-5pm. During this time Gidi Fest’s DJs will be on the decks to get the party started.

    On the food front, they maintained that “Nylah’s Catering is managing Gidi Fest’s African foods court once again. After running out of food due to last year’s high demand, this year’s food court is back, bigger than ever and will have a great variety of dishes from across the continent.”

    Curated by creative consultants Indigo Arya and Myles Igwe, the Arts Installation will be the cornerstone of Gidi Fest 16’s art offering. Art lovers and admirers alike will have a chance to view exciting art pieces, photographs and sculptures from across the continent.

    Artistes line up for Warri Again Music & Comedy

    As Nigeria clocks 55, telecom outfit, Airtel, has put together, musical concerts in two cities Warri and Kaduna respectively. Tagged Warri Again Music & Comedy, the shows which hold simultaneously, features top Nigerian artistes, comedians as well as up-and-coming entertainers.

    Warri Again Music & Comedy, which kicked off yesterday, and continues today, is the product of a collaborative effort between Airtel and showbiz platform, Talk Crew Network (TCN)

    For the Warri end of the show, the likes of Basketmouth, Bovi, AY, Buchi, Gordons alongside music stars like Korede Bello Olamide and Iyanya are thrilling guests.

    Other popular acts lined up are, Dr Sid, K cee, Cynthia Morgan, Harrysong, Lil Kesh and others.

    Some artistes that will perform at the Kaduna show are: Bishop Talk, Pheroshuz, SkinnyBoi, Emmyli, Dan Hausawa, Stayo Stevens, Penny and Nino Brown, while Disc Jockeys (DJs) like Kelly, Abdul, Menthol, White, Uzzy, Bizzy and others will spice up the occasion.

    The Kaduna show will feature a red carpet session, and guests are expected to wear a touch of Nigeria’s colour, green and white.

    Speaking on the event, Airtel’s Chief Sales Officer, Godfrey Efeurhobo, noted that the telecomm organised the Independence concerts to commemorate the nation’s 55th Independence anniversary and to also connect with its teeming customers especially the youth.

    He said: “The nation’s independence anniversary remains a significant moment in the history of Nigeria. And Airtel Nigeria recognises this important day and also realises that the nation can further be built through empowering youths and creating opportunities for them to achieve their dreams.

    “The independence concert also underscores Airtel’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian entertainment industry.”

    Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Sunshine Stars, will try to prise away striker Adamu Yahaya from rivals, Kwara United.

    Supersport.com has learned that the Akure club have made an approach to the player’s representatives in a bid to lure him away from Kwara United when the mid-season transfer window opens in a few weeks.

    “An approach has been made to the player and those close to him by Sunshine Stars but nothing concrete has been reached. We are hoping to secure him in the mid-season transfer window but it might be difficult after his experience with us before he left in Week Nine for Kwara United,” said an official of Sunshine Stars.

    Yahaya was a player of Rising Stars, a sister club of Sunshine Stars also owned by the Ondo State government until he joined Kwara United this term.

    At the start of the season, the striker was in the books of Sunshine Stars but dumped the side to team up with Kwara United after he got no play time under sacked coach, Abimbola Samuel.

    Yahaya, who has been named the League Bloggers Awards (LBA) Player for May, is attracting interest from Sunshine Stars after netting four goals in five matches for Kwara United in the NPFL last month.

    Chipolopolo line up 4 warm-ups for Eagles

    The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) defending champions, the Chipolopolo of Zambia, has lined up some friendly games ahead of the 2013 AFCON tournament in South Africa.

    The team is scheduled to play four warm-up matches against Tanzania, Swaziland, Morocco and Namibia, before their first Group C match against Ethiopia on Jan. 21.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Zambia is grouped along with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. Zambia’s first friendly match would be against a non qualified team for AFCON, Tanzania in Dar es Salaam at the weekend.

    The team would later proceed on a short Christmas break after the Tanzanian game. The Chipolopolo would then resume the camping in South Africa after the Christmas break in January, before playing the friendly against two non qualified teams, Swaziland and Namibia in Nelspruit.

    The last friendly match would be against Morocco, one of the teams for AFCON in Johannesburg.

    Coach Herve Renard considered the friendly games key in the team’s preparation ahead of the start of the tournament.

    “These matches will sharpen us as our first Cup of Nations fixture against Ethiopia is very important. It is crucial to start the tournament well,” Renard said.
