The Lagos Dynamic Lions Club, District 404B3 has put smiles on the vulnerable residents, widows, orphans and others living with disabilities as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and hunger-fighting initiatives in Ijedodo, Lagos State.

The group provided raw foods and essential commodities to over 400 less-privileged, aimed at addressing the needs like inflation and food insecurity in the community.

The project was supervised by the Club President, Kafayat Tolulope Adebayo; Zone Chairperson, Olakunle Onafowokan; Past President (PP), Jokotade Odumosu; the Club’s Secretary, Cynthia Oluwatoyin Momodu, Club Service Chairperson, Paul Abure. Others were Adebayo Amurukoro and Keshinro Aderonke.

Onafowokan said the initiative was in continuation of January Global Service focusing on hunger relief kicked off by the District 404B3 Governor, Adelaja Adeleye, in Akowonjo, Lagos.

“One of our core mandates as Lions Clubs and a largest humanitarian service provider is to impact lives across communities, we always extend welfare support, bringing relief to less-privileged. Today’s outreach focused on the distribution of foods and essential items to improve their well-being.

“Lions Clubs International has over the years, apart from relief from hunger, engaged on other core projects such as vision/diabetes/childhood/cancer free screenings, provision of drugs, environmental protections. All these are driven by improving health, strengthening communities, and supporting those in need through local and global service

“As Lions Clubs, we don’t just talk; we act. Our name itself speaks of action and results. This project is part of our commitment to ensuring that our impact is felt where it matters most—among the people,” Onafowokan added.

Earlier,  Adebayo said: “This initiative – ‘hunger relief’ reflects one of the organisation’s core values. Adverse effects of hunger in society generally can not be over-emphasised.

“This project aligns with Lions Clubs International mission to reach out to vulnerable and often neglected populations. We believe that true impact is measured by the smiles we create and the hope we restore. It is indeed inspiring to know millions of Lions are doing the same in different parts of the world.’’

Adeleye, while kicking off the project, said: “Hunger remains one of the most pressing challenges facing our communities. In many homes, families struggle to put food on the table. Children go to school hungry, and vulnerable members of society face uncertainty about their next meal. We cannot close our eyes to this reality. This is why Hunger Relief is one of the core global causes of Lions International, and why the Week is so important.

“The January Global Service Week calls on every Lion, every club, and every district to rise in unity and compassion — to translate our motto “We Serve” into tangible action. Whether through food distribution, community kitchens, school feeding programs, partnerships with food banks, or innovative local initiatives, every act of service counts.’’

The event drew a large turnout, who gathered in appreciation of the timely intervention.

“The things we have chosen are the things that are in vogue that people are using to make money and put food on the table. Don’t forget people now have to think of what they can do for themselves, not what the country can do for them.”
