    The 21st Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) has announced its nominees, showcasing the best of African cinema.

    Burkina Faso’s “Katanga: Dance of the Scorpions” tops the list with 10 nominations, followed closely by Nigeria’s “Lisabi: The Uprising” with 7 nods.

    The nominees for Best Film include “Algiers,” “3 Cold Dishes,” “The Heart is a Muscle,” “Small Gods,” “For Love, For Land, For Power,” “Katanga: Dance of the Scorpions,” “Last Stop,” and “Lisabi: The Uprising.”

    The Best Director category features Niyi Akinmolayan for “Lisabi: The Uprising,” Imran Hamdulay for “The Heart is a Muscle,” and Asurf Oluseyi for “3 Cold Dishes,” among others.

    The acting categories are highly competitive, with talented actors and actresses vying for the top spots.

    The winners will be announced at the 2025 AMAA ceremony on November 9 at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria.

    The AMAA, founded in 2005, is one of Africa’s most prestigious film honours, spotlighting creativity and storytelling from across the continent and the diaspora.

    Odunlade Adekola, and ID Cabasa, Iyabo Ojo,  were some of the celebs that attended the star-studded premiere of ‘Lisabi: A Legend is Born,’ a film by Nollywood power couple Lateef Adedimeji and Mo Bimpe.

    The premiere took center stage on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan, Lagos.

    The event attracted some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, adding glitz and glamour to the celebration of Yoruba heritage.

    Prominent entertainers, including Femi Adebayo, Muyiwa Ademola, Yinka Quadri, Jide Awobona, Mr. Macaroni, Saga, Phyna, Liquorose, and Boma Akpore, graced the occasion.

    The presence of the celebs on the red carpet created a buzz of excitement, with fans and guests eager to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars.

    The evening’s cultural significance was highlighted by the choice of venue, a center dedicated to Yoruba history and culture, as well as the artistic displays that preceded the movie screening. The sequel to the 2024 film ‘Lisabi: An Uprising,’ ‘Lisabi: A Legend is Born,’ continues the epic tale of the legendary Yoruba warrior.

    Speaking about the film, Lateef Adedimeji expressed his excitement over its release and gave fans a reason to anticipate the sequel. “People should look forward to answers to all the questions they had after seeing the first part. Everything will be addressed in this film,” he said.

    Actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji is celebrating a remarkable achievement on Netflix, with his newly released movie, Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, reaching number 1 on the platform in less than 24 hours.

    His previous movie, Lisabi: The Uprising, which was released last year, has also risen to number 3 on Netflix.

    Lateef Adedimeji expressed gratitude to fans, supporters, and lovers, crediting his Maker for the double blessing. 

    He urged his audience to continue streaming Lisabi 1 & 2 on Netflix, and also provided an alternative viewing option for fans outside Africa on Circuit TV.

    “Look at God! In less than 24 hours of release, Lisabi – A Legend Is Born is number 1 on Netflix, and guess what? Lisabi – The Uprising, which was released in September of last year, is now number 3!

    “Thanks to you all for making this happen. Please, let’s keep up the energy; Lisabi 1&2 is streaming on Netflix. Thank you once again

    Actor and filmmaker, Adedimeji Lateef, has reassured fans that his film Lisabi will indeed premiere on Netflix in January 2025, despite rumours of the streaming platform’s alleged departure from Nigeria.

    On his Instagram, Lateef calmed the nerves of worried fans, stating that his team’s relationship with Netflix remains intact.

    He announced that the second part of the blockbuster movie Lisabi will hit Netflix as promised, with the trailer and poster dropping soon.

    He wrote: “Hello people! No panic!!! The internet got a not so good news about our principal partners NETFLIX yesterday and a lot of people have expressed concerns about LISABI – A LEGEND IS BORN

    “We’re pleased to announce to you that our relationship with the streaming platform is intact and the second part of our blockbuster movie, Lisabi will hit NETFLIX in January as promised. Anticipate magic, Trailer and Poster dropping soon.”

    Lateef’s clarification came after concerns were raised following reports that Netflix might be leaving Nigeria.

    A gripping new epic film ‘Lisabi: The Uprising’ will premiere on Netflix on September 27, 2024.

    The film spotlights the life and legacy of the fabled Yoruba hero, Lisabi, whose life made a lasting impression in Nigerian history.

    The drama, which is directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, promises to captivate audiences with its compelling storyline, dynamic characters, and exceptional production values.

    The epic takes delight in giving viewers a dive into the story of how 18th-century Egba farmer ignited a rebellion against the Oyo Empire, leveraging the collective power of his fellow farmers and enigmatic abilities. His defiance, culminating in the defeat of over 6,000 Oyo soldiers, secures Egba’s independence after centuries of subjugation, marking a pivotal moment in Yoruba history.

    Executive produced by Lateef Adedimeji and directed by  Niyi Akinmolayan, Lisabi features a star-studded cast which includes Femi Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Itele Yekini, Ibrahim Chattah, Mo Bimpe, Eniola Ajao, Liquorose Afije and Lateef Adedimeji himself, all of whom have dedicated years to their craft.

    According to a statement from Netflix , the film’s sequel, ‘Lisabi: A Legend is Born,’ is billed for release in January 2025.
