  • Oyo commissioner loses dad

    Alhaji Adegboyega Arulogun, the father of Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun, is dead.

    The man passed on in the early hours of Wednesday.

    He was 84.

    Alhaji Arulogun, a three-time former commissioner in the state, died at a private hospital in Ibadan, the state capital, at 7.04 a.m after a brief illness.

    A statement by the commissioner said Alhaji Arulogun, was a devoted Muslim, a community leader, defender of justice and an exemplary man who believed in the cause of the common man.

    Alhaji Arulogun, who was born on October 1, 1934, attended St. Peter’s Primary School, Aremo; Olivet High School, Oyo and the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

    He was was a prominent and active member of Ibadan Elders’ Council and Oluyole Club Lagos. The late commissioner was also a labour union leader in the media industry.

    The late Alhaji Arulogun was a broadcaster, a former British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) consultant, former General Manager, Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Channels 7 and 10 and former Marketing Director, NTA, among other positions he held in the media industry.

    He was the Editor of Nigeria’s first celluloid movie, Kongi’s Harvest and had many successful productions on the NTA Network. These included: Ogunde: Man of the Theatre, 5 Days in Badagry, Dance for Harvest, Festac 77 and Born to Live.

    He has been buried according to Islamic rites.

  • AfDB President Adesina loses dad

    Chief Roland Folorunso Adesina, father of President of the Africa Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwunmi Adesina, has died in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

    He was 96.

    A family source said Pa Adesina died about 7am last Wednesday at a private hospital. He spent 12 days on admission.

    The late Chief Adesina was an accountant with the Western Regional Government;  he retired in 1979. He was also a staunch member of the Anglican Communion.

    The AfDB president took to twitter last Thursday to pay  tribute to his father.

    The younger Adesina described his father as his best friend, stressing that he wouldn’t have been who he is today without his father’s love and sacrifice.

    He tweeted: “My darling father and best friend, Roland F. Adesina, passed away yesterday morning. I wouldn’t have been who I am today without your love and sacrifice. Thanks for sending me to school and being a role model. Rest in peace my very dear senior Ombros!”

  • Nigerian envoy to Hungary loses dad

    The Nigerian Ambassador to Hungary with concurrent accreditation to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia, Dr. Eniola Ajayi, has lost her father, Pa Oluwatoyin Owolabi Ajayi.

    Pa Ajayi died on January 21.

    He was 98.

    The deceased was born in 1920 at Iyin-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

    In a statement yesterday, Dr Ajayi said her father lived an exemplary life and taught her children the essence of honesty and service to mankind.

    She said funeral arrangements will be announced later.

    Dr Ajayi said: “Pa Ajayi was a great father, a father in every sense of the word. He taught me self-esteem, self-confidence and selfless giving.

    “He taught me the value of honesty, hard work and having a goal. He taught me commitment to my fellow men and community service. He taught me commitment to my fellow men, irrespective of class and creed. He taught me how to stand up to myself and for others.”

    The Nation artist loses dad, grandma

    The Nation Graphic Artist Oluwafemi Atanda has lost his father, Alhaji Safiu Atanda, and maternal grandmother, Madam Mosunmola Alamu.

    Atanda, 70, died on Sunday at his Bahorun Arena, Olorunsogo, Ibadan, Oyo State home after a brief illness.

    He was buried on the same day around 4pm, according to Islamic rites.

    The deceased worked at the defunct Owena Bank and later moved to Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) on Adeyemo Alakija Street, Victoria Island Lagos branch before his retirement. He is survived by six children.

    Madam Alamu was 100 and died yesterday after a long term illness.

    She was buried yesterday.

    She was a farmer and is survived by four children.
