  • Jimoh Ibrahim loses mum to Lagos fire incident

    The mother of billionaire businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim, has died in a fire incident. Madam Omofemiwa Ramat Ibrahim, 78, It was learnt, died at her son’s Road 3B8 Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lekki residence in the early hours of Saturday.

    The fire was said to have occurred around 1am.

    According to eyewitnesses, the fire was caused by a candle lit by the septuagenarian for prayer.

    She was said to be a Catholic. But the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said it was caused by power surge.

    On its twitter handle @lasemasocial, the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) wrote “LRU Fire and Rescue unit on a fire rescue operation at VGC. Fire was caused by a Power surge.” The Agency urged Lagosians to “endeavor to check all power units in our individual homed regularly.”

    The Nation learnt that Madam Ibrahim was pronounced dead at the scene after fire fighters arrived the scene. Her remains were said to have been deposited at the morgue.

    Lagos State Fire Service Director Rasaki Musibau said the fire service was alerted at 02.20am and its Lekki Phase 1 station arrived at the scene around 02.27am.

    According to him, the fire service met the VGC fire station on ground, which doesn’t have enough equipment to put the fire. The firefighters later quenched the fire and left around 4am.

    Police Spokesman Chike Oti, a Chief Superintendent (CSP) confirmed the incident.

    “If we have been alerted earlier, we would have reduced the damaging effects,” he said. The commodity, he said, was handed over to LASEMA.

  • Tunde Lemo loses mum

    The family of Rev. Tunde Lemo, the former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has announced the death of their matriarch, Mrs. Eunice Olufolake Lemo.

    A statement by Mr. Lemo said Mrs. Lemo died on Wednesday. She was 85.

    A devout Christian and a staunch community leader, Mrs. Lemo is survived by children and grand-children who have made their marks in various fields of endeavor.

    The details of the celebration of her life will be communicated at a later date.

  • Lawmaker loses mum

    The death has been announced of Madam Ediruo Ehohoghene Egoh nee Yavbieri of Uwheru in Ugelli North Lacal Government of Delta State.

    She was 95.

    The late Madam Egoh was a generous and God-fearing woman, according to a statement by Logistics Coordinator Chief Godpower Nakpodia Efiawhare.

    Service of songs will hold on April 12 at the Palace, Uwheru at 4pm.

    The late Madam Egoh will be buried on April, 13 at Uwheru Town.

    She is survived by many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, among who are Hon. Emma Oghene Egoh, representing Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency at the  House of Representatives and Rev. Gabriel Egoh.

    Obi Asika loses mum

    Mother to the Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to President Goodluck Jonathan and founder of Storm Records, Obi Asika, Mrs. Chinyere Asika, passed on Sunday. According to family sources, she died in her sleep.

    Announcing her death via her Facebook page, Uju Asika, sister to Obi Asika, eulogised their late mother.

    “We have been so lucky,” she wrote. “We have been so blessed. We love you mummy, always. Thanks for all the kind words and support from those of you who heard and are sharing our pain. I know this is a deep, deep loss for so many of you too.

    “To those of you who don’t know, we lost our mum. Quite unexpectedly but peacefully, she passed away in her sleep. May she rest in peace with Dad always.”

    The Late Asika, who was also a Special Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo and wife of the late governor of former East Central State, Ajie Ukpabi Asika, is survived by three children – Obi, Nkiru and Uju.

    Condolences have been pouring in for Obi Asika on Facebook. Amongst them was movie producer Fidelis Duker, who said, “May her soul rest in peace. My condolences to Nkiru Asika and the entire Asika family.”
