  • Lover-boy ‘pours acid’ on fiancée

    A 33-year-old jealous lover, Lukman Madotti, who allegedly poured acid on his fiancée, Toyin Muyiba, was yesterday arraigned before an Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder.

    His plea was, however not taken at the court and was remanded in Ikoyi Prisons.

    Police Prosecutor, Clara Adegbayi, an Assistant Superintendent (ASP) told the court that the offence was committed on April 9 at 6.00 a.m. at 11, Alhaji Lasisi Street, Idi-Oro, Mushin, Lagos.

    According to her, the jealous lover poured acid on Muyiba, 20, whom he had accused of flirting around.

    The offence contravened Section 230 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence attracts life imprisonment, according to the provisions of the Criminal Law.

    Magistrate O.A. Olagbende, who gave the order, said the accused should remain behind bars pending advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    She adjourned the case till June 4.

    Girl, lover boy dump 3-week-old baby

    A girl and her lover boy who allegedly dumped their three-week-old baby girl by the roadside were yesterday brought before an Upper Area Court 3 in Jos.

    Zainab Yakubu, a 15-year-old pupil, was arraigned with her boyfriend, Abdullahi Ismail, the suspected father of the abandoned child.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence punishable under Sections 97 and 237 of the Penal Code.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Ahmed Labaran told the court that the case was reported to Angwan Rogo Police Station by one Abdulkarim Danbadawai of Angwan Rogo on January 19.

    According to him, the abandoned baby was recovered and brought to the station by Danbadawai.

    The prosecutor alleged that the accused met twice in a hotel at Chobe Junction in Jos after which she became pregnant.

    “The accused’s mother was ashamed of her daughter’s act of indecency and begged her to go to Abuja and stay with a relation until when she delivers,’’ Labaran said.

    He said that after Zainab gave birth to the baby, she brought the child to Jos three weeks later to look for the father.

    Labaran said that on meeting the father, Zainab gave him his child and ran away. The father also dumped the baby instantly and ran away.

    “The poor baby girl was left alone crying before she was picked and brought to the station,’’ Labaran said.

    The Judge, Yahaya Mohammed, ordered the ward head in the area, whose wife just gave birth, to keep the baby under his custody for nursing.

    Mohammed adjourned the case till February 16.

  • Lover boy stabs girlfriend to death in Kano

    A yet to be identified man, believed to be the lover of a pub girl on Monday evening stabbed his lover girl to death.

    The incident happened in the girl’s room at Sugarcane hotel, located on Gold Coast road, Sabon Gari area of the Kano metropolis between 5:30 and 6 pm.

    According to sources, two men arrived the hotel premises at about 5:30 pm on a motorbike.

    As soon as they disembarked, one of the men, according to our source walked straight into the pub-girl’s room, said to have just returned to the country from Dubai, while his accomplice waited for him beside the motorbike within the premises of the hotel.

    Unknown to the men, workers within the vicinity were monitoring the suspicious movement of the motorbike man.

    Twenty minutes after, one of the motorbike men entered the pub girl’s room and failed to come out as expected, a development that aroused the suspicion of the workers within the premises.

    One of the suspicious workers’, it was learnt burst into the room, following the persistent outcry of the pub girl to ascertain why the pub girl was wailing.

    The source disclosed that as soon as one of the curious workers gained entrance into the room, he discovered that the pub girl was in a pool of her blood, having been stabbed by the motorbike man, who was also found in the room, beside the stabbed pub girl.

    On a closer look, our source said the worker discovered that the pub girl, who was struggling and writhing in pains, was stabbed on the stomach, forcing her intestines to gush out.

    Sensing danger, the assailant, according to our source attempted to escape but was promptly caught and brutalized, while his accomplice, whom he rode to the premises with fled the scene but the motorbike he left behind was however set ablaze.

    Moments after the gruesome murder, some police officers from the Nomansland Police station, according to our source, who arrived the scene saved the suspect from being lynched by the angry mob at  the hotel premises.

    The law enforcement agents, it was gathered swung into action promptly, dispersed the crowd, arrested the suspect and conveyed the remains of the pub girl to the Police station for further interrogation.

    As at the time of filing this report, the Hotel premises has not only been sealed up but deserted.

    Contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, DSP Musa Magaji Majiya, said he is yet to receive such report, promising that as soon the report is made available to him, he would not hesitate to get in touch with this reporter.

    It is the sort of public show of affection common among youngsters. At over 80, ex-Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon seems to be saying he is young at heart.

    At a service at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos, to mark the 80th birthday of former Head of Interim National Government (ING) Chief Ernest Shonekan, Gen. Gowon and his wife Victoria, the former First Lady, who was admired for her beauty and poise in those days when “money was not our problem…”, showed that there is no age limit to exhibiting love for one’s partner.

    Gen. Gowon, the Civil War hero, showed his soft side as he helped madam to remove her necklace – it was not really clear whether it was a set of common beads or something of a luxury, such as diamonds that dangle on the necks of the rich – when she was to receive the Holy Communion. This provided the architect of “no victor, no vanquished” the opportunity to play the “lover boy”.

    Without minding the crowd of congregants around, Gen. Gowon dutifully helped madam to fix the necklace back after she had received the communion.

    But the “stubborn” necklace was difficult to fix. Seeing that Gen. Gowon’s face was beaded with perspiration, a woman offered to help, but the General won’t give in. The service was soon over and Gen. Gowon completed the task.

    He carried out the assignment with the clinical concentration of a surgeon at work.

    When it was all over, the General’s face showed his sense of accomplishment. Madam’s face was wreathed in smiles – to the admiration of the congregants who saw the fascinating scene.

    Good job, the women among them must have been saying.

    Valentine’s tragedy: Lover boy kills girlfriend for shunning outing

    A student of the University of Jos has been killed by a man described as her boyfriend for allegedly turning down his invitation for a date last Sunday- Valentine day.

    Miss Nanchin Zakariah of the  Psychology department of the university was allegedly strangled to death by Badung David Dele on Monday,the day after Valentine at her Angwa Rukuba apartment.

    A source close to them said they been in an intimate relationship for quite some time until a misunderstanding  set in shortly before the last Valentine day.

    Badung was said to have reached out  to Nanchin apparently to settle their differences and invited her out for Valentine.

    An unimpressed Nanchin reportedly smelled a cat and declined the invitation outright.

    She felt that there was no basis for any dating between them having parted for some time.

    The following morning,the suspect stormed Nanchin’s apartment  demanding an explanation why she failed to make the outing.

    He reportedly grabbed his victim by the neck and strangled her to death.

    After completing his evil act, the suspect left the apartment  and told a neighbour he met outside that he wanted to go and get some drug for his ‘ill’ friend.

    He gave his phone number to the  woman and asked her  to call him  in case of any emergency.

    The woman perceived danger immediately and  proceeded to Nanchin’s room only to find her lying down on her  bed unconsciously.

    “I called her name  but she did  not respond,” the woman called Mama Joy said.

    “I moved  closer and I discovered that she was  dead.

    “I ran out,  screaming  to alert the  people around. I was shocked that the boy managed to kill this girl without a gun .There was no blood on her body.”

    The Plateau State Police Command  confirmed the incident  and the arrest of the suspect.

    The Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abu Emmanuel said Badung was arrested on the same day  “ and after some interrogation, he confessed to have committed the crime.”

    The police,according to him, “are  making necessary arrangements to arraign him in court soon. The Police Commissioner is using this opportunity to caution ladies to be careful who they date.Some of these boys are criminals and you might ignorantly fall into their hands like this girl”

    The body  of the deceased has been transferred from Bingham University Teaching Hospital to the Jos University Teaching Hospital JUTH for autopsy.
