Woman steals lover’s car after drugging him

Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives have arrested a woman who allegedly drugged her lover in a hotel and stole his Volkswagen Passat Wagon 2001 model.

The suspect was apprehended in Agbor, Delta State last Tuesday, where she was traced to with the help of a dealer she engaged to process import papers for the stolen vehicle.

She was also said to have stolen her victim’s laptop and mobile phones from the hotel in Ojodu, Berger, where they lodged on January 19.

Also arrested was a generator repairer, Adesanya Gbenga, who drove the vehicle out of the hotel for her.

According to RRS, the victim, a doctor, said he met the woman on a social media site, Badoo, last year.

The suspect was said to have told her brother, Mukoro Okpako, of her intention to sell the vehicle but was arrested before she could perfect the papers.

The police also recovered the stolen vehicle from a shop in Warri, but its number plate was removed.

It was gathered that the suspect who gave the victim a false name, drugged the malt and yoghurt she got from the bar, while he was taking his bath.

He claimed that after taking the drink around 6pm, he slept off and woke up around 2pm the following day.

He said: “I went in to take my bath and when I returned, she had gone to buy some drinks. I took the malt drink and yoghurt and I slept off. I slept at 6pm and woke up around 2pm.

“When I woke up, my personal effects such as phone and laptop had gone. Unfortunately for me, I do not know any of her relatives. We only met on a social media dating site, Badoo about a year ago. As I woke up, I rushed straight to meet with the receptionist and gateman to ask for her whereabouts, that was when I realised my car had been taken away too.

“They told me someone came to pick the car for her. And, she said she was going to get food. Immediately, I reported the incident at Omole Police Station.

“I was getting to know her for real. She told me her name was Aisha and gave me these numbers- 08067188213, 07081240038. I never knew her name is Mitchel. Since the incident, I have been trying to call her to no avail. One of the numbers was switched off, she wasn’t picking the other.”

Gbenga, according to RRS, said he had driven about three cars to Sapele for the suspect.

RRS quoted him as saying: “I was surprised to see her opening the gate of the hotel herself for me to drive out instead of the gateman. That wasn’t the first time I would be helping her take a vehicle out of Lagos to Sapele. It was about the third time. First, it was a Toyota Camry “Big for Nothing.” I helped her move it from Ajah to Sapele. The second one was an “End of Discussion” Honda Accord and thirdly, Volkswagen Passat, 2001 model. I moved that too all night to Sapele.

“I was introduced to her last year by her elder brother, who works as a clearing and forwarding agent. I was told she needed the assistance of a good driver to take her to Warri. I later met her in Ajah where I helped her to carry a Toyota Camry to Sapele.

“About four months later, she summoned me to GRA Ikeja. She gave me a Honda Accord (End of Discussion) to help her collect fuel from her brother at Wawa, Ogun State. I took the fuel and returned the car. She then told me that she has gotten another driver to take her. She gave me N5000 and I left.

“The last vehicle is the one that has created crisis for me. Although, I have been wondering where she has been getting these cars but she told me that she hired them from Delta whenever she comes to Lagos, and that a driver brought her to Lagos and returned to Delta. I didn’t know she steals cars.”

A source said she tried to conceal the victim’s phone when she was apprehended, adding that investigations were ongoing to know the whereabouts of the other stolen cars.

Police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent (SP), said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID).

“Anything you do I do, you fight, I fight, you eat, I eat, you abuse, I abuse, you go to club, I follow you; people just take advantage because we are in the limelight. We have blood running through our veins – One love and happy New Year,” she said.
