  • APC clear National Secretary, 23 others for 2019 governorship poll

    The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) has affirmed the nomination of the party’s National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni and 23 others as governorship candidates of the party for the 2019 governorship election across the country.

    Also cleared to fly the party flag are Lagos state flag bearer, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Plateau state Governor, Simon Lalong, Bauchi state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, Kebbi state Governor, Abubakar Bagudu and Katsina state Governor, Aminu Bello MASARI.

    Others are Jigawa stage Governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Niger state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, Sokoto state deputy governor, Ahmed Aliyu, Prof. Babagana Umara-Zulum (Borno), Abubakar Sule (Nasarawa), Emmanuel JIme (Benue), Tonye Cole (Rivers), Uche Ogah (Abia), Nsima Ebere (Akwa Ibom), Adebayo Adelabu (Oyo), Fapo Abiodun (Ogun), Great Ogboru (Delta), Senator John Owan Enoh (Cross River), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Senator Sunny Ogboji (Ebonyi) and Sani Abubakar Danladi (Taraba).

    Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena said in a statement that the clearance followed the adoption of the report of the various electoral committee sent to conduct the primaries in the various states.

    The governorship primaries for Enugu, Kwara and Adamawa states have not been conducted, while the party has cancelled the primary in Zamfara and Imo states due to irregularities.

    The NWC also approved the report of the pane, that conducted the governorship primary in Ogun State which declared Dapo Abiodun as the candidate of the party.

  • ‘How we reconciled Gov. Gaidam, Sen. Bukar Abba Ibrahim’

    The rift between former governor of Yobe State, Sen. Bukar Abba Ibrahim and the current governor Ibrahim Gaidam over the Yobe East Senatorial seat  has been put to rest as the duo were Wednesday reconciled in Abuja.
    The outcome of the reconciliation preceded intensive talks and meetings facilitated by some close political associates of Sen. Abba Ibrahim including Alhaji Aji Bularafa, Dr. Sani Chiromari, Adamu Salleh, Alhaji Abdulraman Ibrahim and one of the friends of Yobe Dr. Sam Egwu.
    One of the peace mediator, Alhaji Aji Bularafa informed that they cannot sit and watch the hard earned reputation of the two political god fathers of Yobe fighting.
    “We cannot sit and watch these two very important people in our state fighting therefore we took the bull by the horn and thanks be to almight Allah, the outcome as you can see is fruitful,” Bularafa informed.
    The Nation recall that the two leaders were reconciled yesteday at the Yobe State Government Lodge at Asokoro in Abuja.

    At the meeting, former governor, Sen. Bukar Abba Ibrahim declared his withdrawal for the Yobe East Senatorial seat for the incubent governor Ibrahim Gaidam who will now stand unopposed.
    Sen. Bukar also endorsement the chioce of the National Secretary of APC, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni as the candidate of the party for the governorship elections come 2019.
    Sen. Bukar noted that the furture of the state is bigger than his ambition and therefore cannot fight with Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam whom he described as a good man.
    Sen. Bukar’s decision yesterday has reaffirm his earlier  stand where he told journalists three years ago that, ” I will never fight with Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam over the senatorial seat. Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam is my brother. Anytime he wants the senatorial seat I will give it to him. It is his anytime he wants it”.
    Its is not clear whether Sen. Bukar cut a deal with Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam for stepping down his ambition  that from the surface, everything looks good for the party as Sen. Bukar declared that, “the APC in Yobe is now united and bigger more than ever before”.
    One of the mediator also told our correspondent that they will not stop at Bukar but make sure they reach out to other aspirants to queue behind Mai Mala Buni for the victory and development of Yobe State.

  • Oshiomhole vow to reposition APC

    …Orders “Fake Director” out of secretariat

     

     

    The new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Tuesday told staff of the national secretariat of the party to brace up for the new realities in the party and be ready the changes that will occur in the party in time to come.

    While holding a meeting with the staff of the party, moments after taking over from his predecessor, Comrade Oshiomhole took his first decision, sacking a man that has been parading himself at the secretariat for the past four years as Director of Finance of the party.

    The Nation gathered that at the moment, the party has only two full-fledged Directors and has not employed any Director of Finance since its inception.

    The “fake Director of Finance” identified as Timothy Akojuru was said to have worked with the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) as Director of Finance.

    Before going into a closed door meeting, Oshiomhole has publicly told the workers while taking over that he would improve their welfare and ensure that they were well enumerated, but must work hard to earn whatever they will be paid.

    A source who attended the meeting said that the former Labour leader hinted of a possible downsizing of those working in the secretariat as all the staff must have one function or the other to perform.

    The source said that Oshiomhole told the staff that a situation were drivers for example were more than the available vehicles within the secretariat will no longer be allowed, stressing that all those who have no business working in the secretariat will not be allowed to remain.

    The source said when the new chairman asked the “fake Director” what is responsibilities within the secretariat was, he simply said “I’m a director of finance.”

    The source said “Oshiomohle was surprised and quickly asked the Deputy National Chairman, Lawal Shuaibu and the National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni to confirm the statement, but none of them could defend him.

    “Instead, Sen. Shuaibu was said to have asked him where and how he got his appointment letter, but Akojuru could not provide a satisfactory answer. At this point, the new chairman asked him to leave the meeting or he invites police to arrest him”.

    Akojuru was said to have applied for the position of Director of Finance in the secretariat, but has not employed nether was a letter of appointment issued to him, but has remained in the secretariat, reporting for duty on a daily basis.

    The former Edo State Governor was also said to have informed the staff that the secretariat, even though a party secretariat will be administered like every other office, stressing that all staff must henceforth report for duty as early as 8.00am when other offices open for business as the current resumption time of between 9 and 10 am.

    While assuring staff of better welfare, Comrade Oshiomhole also directed the staff to stop loitering around the secretariat during working hours.

    At the time of this report, Oshiomhole was locked in a meeting with members of the National Working Committee and senior staff of the party, with a view to charting the way forward.

    Impeachment plot against Buhari a joke – APC

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday described as a huge joke taken too far the threat by some senators to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari, saying the senators in question should concentrate on their constitutional responsibilities.

    In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni and made available to journalists in Abuja, the party said the senators should not allow personal interest to over ride national interest.

    APC asked senators to allow the principles of rule of law prevail in the ongoing trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, over alleged forgery of Senate standing rules, saying their action could be regarded as subjudice since the matter is already before the court.

    The statement reads: “The attention of the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to media reports of a laughable impeachment plot by some Senators on President Muhammadu Buhari during Tuesday’s closed session of the Senate.

    “This is a huge joke taken too far.

    “The party advises the senators in question to stop this huge joke and concentrate on their primary constitutional responsibilities of lawmaking and discharging their legislative mandates to their constituents at the National Assembly. The party reiterates that the senators in question not to allow political shenanigans becloud overall national interest.

    “The party will not to join issues on the Senate forgery suit and other court cases concerning some members of the 8th Senate because it will be subjudice. We advise the senators in question to tow the same line and allow judicial processes run its normal and legitimate course.

    “Repeated allegations that the court cases are politically-motivated by the President and the APC are baseless. The President Muhammadu Buhari administration strictly respects the principle of rule of law and also adheres to the constitutional provisions of separation of power between the three arms of government.

    “The APC urges Mr. President and the entire cabinet to remain focused in its effort deliver on election promises and to steer the nation to its deserved heights.”
