GOC to troops: be honest, fair with civilians

Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) and 3 Division of the Nigerian Army have been advised to exhibit honesty, fairness, and empathy in their dealings with civilians.

General Officer, Commanding 3 Division/Commander Operation Safe Haven, Maj.-Gen Folusho Oyinlola, gave the charge during the Sallah luncheon for the troops in Jos, the Plateau state capital.

The GOC, who said the Eid-el-Fitr luncheon, was held to celebrate the Muslim soldiers and their families, added that it was a time for them to strengthen brotherhood and sisterhood,  forgive and to renew their commitment to upholding justice, fairness, and peaceful coexistence in our society.

He said it was a time too for sober reflection – to remember the less privileged, families who lost loved ones, and individuals displaced by conflicts and violence.

Gen Oyinlola commended the officers, soldiers and personnel as well as security agencies in the state for their dedication to duty.

“You have displayed courage, resilience, and professionalism in carrying out your responsibilities and for that, I extend my deepest gratitude. The values of honesty, fairness, and empathy should define our engagements with the civil populace. Let us always remember that our ultimate goal is to protect lives, uphold justice, and promote an environment where all citizens can thrive in peace and security,’’ he said.

He assured that there were better days ahead, despite the challenges of insurgency, banditry, communal clashes, among others.

The Chief of Army Staff, who was represented by the Commander Armour Corps, Maj.-Gen O. C. Ajunwa, assured of strengthening the capacity, welfare and combat readiness of the troops.

“As we celebrate, we must remain mindful of our shared duty to uphold the peace, unity and sovereignty of our beloved country. Our commitment to these ideals reinforces the trust placed in us to safeguard our country’s future. This aligns with the strategic objectives of Mr President which prioritises national security and sustainable development,’’ he added.
