    Majid Michel loses mum

    GHANAIAN actor, Majid Michel, is in a grieving mood at the moment, following the passing on of his 63-year-old mother, last Ftiday, at a hospital in Accra, Ghana.

    His mother, Paula Olympio, was said to have collapsed after which she was rushed to the Ghana Canada Hospital in East Legon, Accra, where she later passed on.

    The news was shared via the Instagram by Majid’s half-brother, Mico Michel, who paid tribute to the actor’s late mother.

    “In my heart, you live forever! Mom, I know you are in a better place now. As we all give thanks to the day you walked into our lives, we knew our family would never have been this strong without you there to guide us and love us the way you did. Forever love…an Angel gone home…Auntie Paulina,” he wrote.

    Majid Michel dazzles in Ruth Kadiri’s Matters Arising

    Ruth Kadiri, a Nollywood actress and storywriter, has just completed works on her new movie, Matters Arising, which stars Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel.

    Matters Arising, a romantic comedy shot in a village setting in Enugu, is the story of a married thrift collector who does not live up to his responsibilities and is always finding fault with his wife.

    According to Ruth, it is a movie that seeks to bring happiness to movie lovers, while also teaching people that it is more honourable to own up to their responsibilities.

    With this movie, Ruth Kadiri  has joined the ever- growing leagues of female movie producers like Uche Jombo, Omoni Oboli, Funke Akindele and Stephanie Okereke Linus.

    Ruth Kadiri, who holds a degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, got into the movie industry a few years back as a story writer.

    She has starred in several movies alongside numerous stars in such movies as My Rich Boyfriend, Heart of a Fighter, Ladies Gang, Strange Acts, Breath of Love, Burning Tears and Sincerity, among others.

    IT was a large turnout of movie stars on Monday when the Ghana Movie Awards 2013 held in a grand style at the popular Accra International Conference Centre.

    Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo, beat Majid Michel, Kofi Adu (Agya Koo) and James Gardiner to clinch the award for the ‘A Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role’.

    Joselyn Dumas also beat Lydia Forson, Roselyn Ngissah and others to claim the ‘Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role’ award.

    Jackie Appiah once again won the 2013 ‘A Performance by an actress in a Leading Role’ award in a contest that involved Yvonne Okoro, Maame Serwaa, Sonia Ibrahim and Yvonne Nelson.

    Lil Win, Shirley Frimpong Manso, Ken Attoh and Leila Djansi also took home some deserving awards.

    It was reported that top Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim, would be attending the Ghana Movie Awards in a Rolls Royce Phantom to the venue.

    According to report, Juliet Ibrahim was expected to enjoy a luxury cruise in a Rolls Royce Phantom to the venue, courtesy of Ciroc Mottos, over her award as the “The Favourite Actress of the Year”.

    Nigerian screen queen, Monalisa Chinda; former BBA star, Confidence, and others were present to show their support.

    All is set for highly rated Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel to join the star-studded Tinsel cast from Tuesday February 19. He will be playing himself in the dramatic sitcom that is broadcast daily.

    Majid explained that he took up a guest role on the drama series to broaden his roles in the entertainment industry.

    “A long time ago, I realized that my acting is not only about myself, it’s an extension of many things that I hope for in our industry. So I made up my mind to extend myself to film projects that improve our movie making prospects within the continent. I believe that this can also inspire young actors coming behind me. Tinsel is a typical reflection of that, after all, its’ one of the most successful soaps out of Nigeria.”
