Men don’t like nice ladies, says Toke Makinwa

Actress Toke Makinwa has argued men ‘dislike’ and are unappreciative of nice ladies.

Recalling an aunt’s stance on the latest episode of her podcast with Kie Kie as her guest, Makinwa said her relation at some point always tipped her on why a lady didn’t have to be overly nice to men.

According to her, this aunt was of the opinion that a delicate lady is easily taken advantage of and ultimately shoved aside by men.

So, added mean ladies stood a better chance of getting married than the nice one

“Men don’t like women that are nice. I have one aunty, shout out to her. She used to say, you see those mean ladies, they are the ones men get married to. If you decide to go and act all nice, they’ll just shove you aside.

But her guest, Kie Kie, had a different opinion on the matter.

Court dissolves radio presenter Toke Makinwa’s marriage

The three-year-old marriage between a popular radio presenter, Omotoke Makinwa and her estranged husband, Maje Ayida has hit the rocks.

An Igbosere High Court in Lagos on Thursday dissolved the union, citing husband’s adulterous lifestyle, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Makinwa, is the co-host of the ‘Morning Drive’ on Rhythm 93.7FM, a blogger and an author.

She had on March 9, 2016, asked the court to dissolve the marriage on the grounds that the husband committed adultery.

Justice Morenike Obadina, while delivering judgment held that Ayida filed an answer to the petition but did not give oral evidence in support of it.

She said the position of the law was settled as pleadings did not amount to evidence.

“Pleadings on which no evidence was led are deemed abandoned. Therefore, Ayida’s evidence is deemed abandoned.

“The effect being that the petitioner’s evidence is unchallenged and uncontroverted,’’ she ruled.

The judge said the issue of cruelty which the petitioner (Makinwa) relied on was established because of the “mental and emotional stress” she was subjected to by her husband.

He said Makinwa had sufficiently proven that the husband committed adultery and continued to flaunt his adulterous relationships even to her face.

“I hold that the marriage has broken down on grounds of intolerable behaviour.

“I hereby pronounce a `Decree Nisi’ dissolving the marriage between Makinwa and Ayida which was administered at the Federal Marriage Registry, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Jan. 15, 2014.

“The order Nisi shall become absolute three months from today unless within that period sufficient cause is shown why it should not be made absolute,” Obadina said.

Makinwa had told the court that her husband committed adultery with his mistress, Anita Solomon, adding that the relationship produced a child.

She said since their marriage was contracted, the husband had “behaved in a way she could not reasonably be expected to continue to bear”.

She also said the husband was cruel towards her, adding that their differences became irreconcilable.

NAN also reports that during the trial, the petitioner (Makinwa ) testified in court and tendered some documents including their marriage certificate which were admitted in evidence.

In her testimony, she said that after their marriage was contracted in 2014, cohabitation with her husband ceased on Nov. 8, 2015, without any child from the marriage.

She also told the court of an instance where her husband threatened separation and even drafted a separation agreement because she discovered that he bought a ticket for his mistress to travel to London.

The first respondent (Ayida) who replied to the petition when served, however, instructed his counsel, Mr T. O. Lawal, not to continue with the defence.

Ayida through his counsel, therefore, foreclosed all evidence.

The mistress (Solomon), who is the second respondent, refused to join issues with the petitioner.(NAN)

    Toke Makinwa savours freedom

After what seemed like several months of suffocation in a dead marriage, on-air personality Toke Makinwa is ready to breathe the fresh air of freedom once again. Having filed for divorce against her estranged husband Maje Ayida in June last year at the Lagos State High Court, she was in court this week as the divorce proceedings finally began.

During the brief hearing, her husband, through his lawyer, indicated that he was ready to quit the marriage and move on with his life. However, the court adjourned the case. Still, it was clear that Toke is practically a free woman now and the relief was palpable on her face as she took pictures with her wide-eyed fans during the session.

It will be recalled that Toke and Maje were involved in a  clash in the second half of last year as the baby-faced beauty revealed in her book, On Becoming, how she was allegedly maltreated in all the years she was married to Maje.

    Makinwa reveals Crystal Palace trials

Former Nigeria international Stephen Makinwa has commented on the rationale behind the contract he signed with Chinese club Beijing Baxy.

Recall that the 30-year-old attacker penned a one-and-a-half year contract with the capital club in July, which ended his 12 – year adventure in Italy, where he represented amongst others Lazio, Chievo Verona and Genoa.

“When I heard about China I wanted to move immediately but I chose the ambitious team over the money. I was briefly on trial with Crystal Palace in England but they took a player from another side in the Premiership.

“For China I had just two options really, one was Chongqing F.C. and their offer was more than double Baxy’s,” Makinwa told goal.com.

Stephen Makinwa has notched up four goals in his first nine games for Beijing Baxy, who are placed seventh on the log.

Makinwa aims for promotion in China

Ayodele Makinwa has told MTNFootball.com he hopes to help his club Beijing Baxy secure promotion to the Chinese top flight.

“My target is to score as many goals as I can to help my team secure promotion to play in the Super League at the end of the season. I will do my best, contribute my quota to what my team mates will do,” Makinwa said.

Makinwa joined the Chinese club this summer on a year’s deal and has scored two goals already with three assists. The former SS Lazio striker last played for Carrarese in the Italian lower division, scoring six goals in 13 games.

This is the second time Makinwa is playing outside Italy since he left Nigeria for Europe in 2000 with the first being Larissa in Greece.

Beijing Baxy are fifth on the league table with 33 points, 12 points adrift of leaders Henan Jianye.
