He urged youths to shun any form of violence, thuggery and avoid anything that will disturb peace and stability in the society in the name of politics.

“We should cooperate and work together for the development of Zamfara State; we should not be allowed to be used for political violence and thuggery.

“You know the situation we are facing in Zamfara today, we should continue with prayers and seek Allah’s intervention to the security challenges we are facing.

“I am happy with the kind of trust, solidarity, support and encouragement you are giving to me, and I am giving you assurance that we will continue to work together”, he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the deputy governor has failed to secure the support of Gov. Abdulaziz Yari and APC leadership in the state who are backing another aspirant for the position.

The governor and the state APC leadership have claimed that the party stakeholders had since endorsed the state Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Mukhtar Shehu-Idris, as the party’s governorship candidate.

The deputy governor and other aspirants had since kicked against the decision, saying there was no consensus on who becomes the governorship candidate of the APC in the state.

Other governorship aspirants seeking APC endorsement include, Alhajic a retired Federal Permanent Secretary and Sen. Kabiru Mafara, representing Zamfara Central.

“Government will support the College to continue with its activities. I also urge communities in the state to always be conscious of fire, especially in the current harmattan season to avoid future incident.

Sarkin-Fawa said that the college had lost its 16 years valuable records to the disaster, and needed urgent support from the state government and TETFund so that their academic activities would not stop.

“About 2,083 students, 42 academic and 18 non-academic staff will no longer have classes and offices as a result of the disaster,’’ he said.

He appealed to the government to assist the college with additional structures like staff accommodation.

“We have about 400 staff, including academic and non-academic.

” Only 20 per cent out of the total number of staff are residing in the College while the remaining staff are living outside due to lack of accommodation.

“We have about 8,000 students in this College, but we are facing serious challenge of lack of infrastructure, including water,’’ he added.

The fire occurred on Dec. 23 and razed the 2013 intervention complex project of the College.

It comprises four departments, one dean’s office and other offices.

    ‘Let’s unite to fight insurgency’

THE Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala, yesterday charged northern elites to bury their religious, political and ideological differences to fight the insurgency in the region.

Wakkala, who spoke in Kano during the 6th anniversary and lecture presentation of the Dandalin Siyasa On-Line Forum, called on political, religious and opinion leaders from the north to brace up to the challenges of insecurity facing the region.

The theme of the lecture was democracy and economy: A Northern challenge.

“I will like to call on the northern elite and politicians alike for us to come back to our senses and realise that certainly, this is not the North left to us by the founding fathers of the northern Nigeria.

“As we all know, our sages like the Sarduana of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello and the Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, of blessed memories, paid dearly with their lives for championing the cause of the region.

“We must do all we can do keep their dreams alive. Recent happenings in some of our geo-political zones do not portray a promising future.

“If things are to continue unabated, the future is obviously bleak, not just for the present crop of people but also the future generations,” Wakkala warned.

“We owe our forefathers and the great heroes of our region a duty to sustain their visions and legacies so that their sacrifices will not be in vain,” he stressed.

The deputy governor pointed out that something must be done urgently to address the security challenges ravaging the north.
