  • Tambuwal restates commitment to recruit more workers, improve welfare

    Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Tuesday said that the state government would embark on recruitment of more workers to facilitate improve manpower in state and local services.

    Tambuwal stated this at 2018 Workers Day celebration in Sokoto, saying that 2, 500 primary and secondary teachers had already been recruited between 2017 and 2018 in the state.

    He described workers as `catalyst in channelling state resources’ to productive means aimed at improving the living condition of people.

    Tambuwal added that health workers and others would be recruited to enhance effective service delivery.

    He disclosed that no fewer than 200 students have been sponsored to study medicine abroad and come back to work in states’ hospitals.

    The governor added that his administration had conducted computer training programme for all categories of workers besides sponsoring workshops to enhance their productivity.

    According to him, the present administration had ensure steady and prompt payment of salaries and pension stressing that more than N4 billion gratuity had been settled from 2016 to date while others were under way.

    He said in view of the importance the government attached to workers Welfare, it had commenced the sale of government houses to workers besides many other Nigerians welfare packages.

    Tambuwal reiterated that government would continue to execute viable programmes toward improving workers welfare and assured continuous harmonious working relationship.

    The Federal Controller of Labour in Sokoto State, Mr Sa’idu Muhammad, said the event was being conducted to review achievements, challenges and others for improved service delivery.

    In his address, Mr Aminu Umar, the State Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress ( NLC ), lauded governor’s efforts on workers welfare in the state.

    Umar acknowledged that about 10, 000 workers were recruited since his election as state governor despite prompt payment of entitlements and others packages.

    The labour leader assured that workers would continue to live up to the expectation to reciprocate the commitment and urged workers to support leaderships at all levels.

    The newsmen reports that special prayer led by Comrade Hassan Abdullahi, was offered for late governor’s Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, who died last week.

    The newsmen also reports that no fewer than 80 unions participated in the rally held at the occasion.

    World Bank, Sokoto Govt to expand areas of partnership

    The World Bank office in Nigeria and Sokoto state government have agreed to expand their areas of mutual cooperation so as to engender development, inclusiveness and tackle poverty among the populace.

    This development followed a meeting between Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and World Bank’s Country Director for Nigeria, Mr. Rachid Ben Messaoud, at the Bank’s office in Abuja.

    Already, ‎the World Bank and Sokoto government are partnering in critical sectors like irrigation and drainage, education, rural and inter-urban roads, water supply, sanitation, waste management and health.

    A statement issued Tuesday in Sokoto by the Governor’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, quoted Tambuwal as saying that his administration has paid all its counterpart funding for various projects to be executed jointly by the bank and the state government, and is awaiting further action to ensure rapid implementation.

    “We have a number of projects we are implementing jointly in critical sectors like irrigation, water management, repairs of dam, health, education and others.

    “We have discussed on ways we can hasten up implementation and I am happy with the response we got from the World Bank team.
    “Importantly, we have agreed to expand the areas of our cooperation into sectors like livestock development, administration and fiscal reform among others,” he added.

    The statement further revealed that the global bank’s officials have commended Sokoto government for its commitment to full implementation of the various agreements entered into by the two entities.

    “The commitment shown by Sokoto government is commendable and reassuring. We are delighted by what has been achieved so far and we hope to create a better future together for the people of Sokoto and Nigeria,” the Country Director stated.

    Sokoto State Government has declared Friday September 22, 2017 as public holiday to commemorate the Islamic New Year 1439 AH.

    This is contained in a statement issued to journalists in Sokoto by Malam Imam Imam, the spokesman to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

    “The government enjoins the people to use the period of the holiday to pray for the nation and especially for President Muhammadu Buhari.

    “This period of the Islamic New Year should remind all people of the countless favours bestowed on them by the Almighty God. As such, the people are enjoined to intensify prayers and engage in acts that will solidify the unity of the nation.

    “On a personal level, the government urges all Nigerians to show care, and to love one another. The recent tension in some parts of the country occasioned by activities of some youths should not deter us from caring for one another,” the statement added.

    While wishing all Nigerians, especially the Muslim faithful a happy and peaceful New Year, the statement assured the people of government’s determination to find lasting solutions to the challenges confronting the state.

    It equally urged the people to continue with their support for all government policies and programs.

    Tambuwal, Nigerien leader discuss improved ties

    Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, on Monday met with the President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou, at the Presidential Palace in Niamey to discuss issues of common interest for improved relations.

    Tambuwal’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, said in a statement that the two leaders discussed issues of cooperation for the benefit of their citizens.

    Imam said the two discussed important issues that bordered on education, trade and cultural integration between Sokoto State and Niger Republic.

    “Sokoto and Niger Republic have long standing cultural, religious and family ties.

    “So, our visit to the Palais De Presidence is meant to enhance these ties and also explore other important areas of cooperation like education and trade,” he  said.

    Imam added that Tambuwal used the opportunity to meet Sokoto State indigenes in Niger Republic and  senior public officials as well as investors to explore areas of further cooperation.

    The governor was on the visit with the Secretary to the State Government,  Prof. Bashir Garba, the Chief of Staff Sokoto Government House, Mukhtar Magori, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Mannir Dan’Iya, among others.

    2015: Tambuwal urges INEC to emulate Yobe SIEC

    House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal yesterday called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to get ready for the 2015 polls.

    Tambuwal gave the advice in his New Year message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam.

    He praised Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission for conducting a peaceful and credible election worthy of emulation.

    “The lesson in what happened in Yobe should not be lost on all of us in spite of the security situation in the state and operating under the State of Emergency,” he said.

    He appreciated the role played by the government and people of the state as well as security agencies to ensure that the election witnessed massive turn out and was concluded peacefully.

    “The determination of the government and people of Yobe State to have democratic structures at the grassroots played a huge part in ensuring the success of the exercise.

    “It should not be lost on all of us that when all hands are on deck, and with sincerity of purpose, we can achieve success together.

    “I commend the security agencies, the government and people of Yobe State for setting an example worthy of emulation,” the Speaker said.

    He urged Nigerians to remain positive about the country, and prayed to God for a prosperous and peaceful 2014.
