  • Man in court for alleged theft

    A 24-year-old man, Martin Samson, who allegedly broke into a shop and stole items worth N172, 000, yesterday appeared at a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

    He is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Inspector Ayodele Adeoshun alleged that the accused committed the offences last December 16 at 11pm, at Exodus Car Wash bus stop, along Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

    He alleged that the accused broke into the shop of the complainant, Mrs. Queen Wahab.

    “He stole one IPhone 5 valued at N83,000; two Nokia Touch phones valued at N11,000; one Android phone valued at N73,000 and N5,000 cash,” Adeoshun said.

    The offences contravene sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaya granted the accused N200, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    He said one the sureties should be related to the accused.

    The case continues on January 29.

  • Man in court for ‘assaulting’ minor

    A 36-year-old man, Owuye Oluwafemi, has been arraigned at Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl.

    Oluwafemi, whose address was not given, was arraigned on a three-count charge of indecent assault, sexual assault and breach of peace.

    Prosecutor Akpan Ikem told the court the accused committed the offences on July 31, about 3:30 pm, at Ola-Oki Street, Ibereko, Badagry.

    He alleged the suspect penetrate the private part of the minor with his right finger without her consent and committed an offence punishable under Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    “He sexually touched the five-year-old girl, in violation of Section 168 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    “Oluwafemi also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by instigating people against the victim’s parent, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 166 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaya remanded him in prison and adjourned the case till September 10 for further hearing.

  • Man in court for ‘possession of human head’

    A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has remanded a 25-year-old man, Alloy Etim, in prison custody for alleged possession of human head and for allegedly being a member of a cult called Dey-Gbam.

    The suspect, with others at large, allegedly committed the crime on January 25 at Elechi waterside, Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt.

    The prosecutor, Mr. Wilson Isaiah, said the offence “contravenes Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Act cap C38, Laws of the Federation 2004; Section 329A (1) (2) of the Criminal Code, Act C38 Laws of the Federation 2004, 10 (d) of the Secret Cult and Similar Activities Prohibition Law No.6 of Rivers State 2004.”

    Etim was not represented by a lawyer.

    The three-count charge was not read out and he did not take a plea.

    The Magistrate, S.D. Andrew Jaja, said the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter and instructed the registrar to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.

    He remanded the suspect in prison custody and adjourned the case till April 20, pending advice from DPP.

    Man in court for alleged car theft

    A 35-year-old man, Akeem Oladipupo, has been arraigned before an Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos for stealing a car, 18 kegs of diesel, and a vehicle battery.

    The charge sheet stated that Oladipupo made away with a Daewoo Racer car on August 11, at Anibaba Street, Ikorodu.

    The vehicle, which belongs to one Muri Adeleke, was valued at N300, 000.

    The offence is contrary to Section 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

    The defendant was accused of stealing an Atlas battery valued at N13,000 on the same day from an Opel Astral car with registration number MK 575.

    The third count stated that Oladipupo allegedly stole 18 kegs containing 25-litre of diesel valued at N67,000, belonging to Glo Nigeria Limited.

    Oladipupo also hit one Umen Okon’s Bajaj vehicle while trying to run away.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty.

    Magistrate A. Oshodi-Makanju granted the accused N200,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum. The case was adjourned till September 9.
