    20-year-old cuts off manhood for alleged ritual

    A 20-year-old house help has allegedly cut off the manhood of his ‘madam’s’ aged father for alleged money ritual.

    It was learnt that the incident happened at Amaenyi, Awka, Anambra State.

    A source said the suspect has bolted and has been declared wanted by the police.

    A video of members of the affected family obtained by our reporter showed that the suspect was barely a month old in the home when he killed the father of the woman, who brought him to look after her father.

    A note accompanying the video read: “The boy is a houseboy, of 20 years old. He came barely a month ago to stay and take care of his madam’s father at Amaenyi, Awka, Anambra State.

    “On November 8, 2023 when the madam left for her restaurant, he put on their generator to avoid people hearing about his evil plans.

    “He then took a machete and attacked the madam’s father, cutting off his manhood for ritual. He later ran away.

    “The father has been rushed to Amaku Hospital in Awka. The house help is on the run. Anybody who sees him should inform the nearest police station.”

    Efforts to get reactions from police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga were unsuccessful, as he didn’t reply the SMS sent to him at press time.

    Tales of vanishing manhood, revisited

    It came as a welcome relief to the tedium of test-tube politics, a system of politics without politicians, mainly parastatal types locked in desperate game to emerge as the group that best reflects the thinking of its progenitor, and therefore the group most likely to be anointed.

    It is a grim business indeed, this test-tube politics, and the alchemists who concocted it must be alarmed at some of the things that are going on.

    Imagine, for instance, the promise to turn Nigeria into a world power by 2000 A.D.  Would that not be a regression?  Those making that promise obviously have never heard of a place called Liberia, nor of something called ECOMOG.  The promise to abolish poverty at some unspecified future date is just as misguided.  How can anyone seek to fight all over again the battles that have been fought and won decisively by the Structural Adjustment Programme, the Better Life, Program, etc, etc?

    To rescue us from such drollery came tale upon tale of vanishing manhood in Lagos.  For upwards of one week, the city has been in the grip of a scare which, it would seem, surfaces every ten years.  It had been like that in 1980, except that adult males did not go about with their hands buried deep in their trouser pockets, clutching you-know-what, for fear that it might vanish on the slightest contact with some evil conjurer.

    I have been told of a young man who now encases his in a specially designed harness, with the strands terminating in a solid knot at the back of his neck. If there is any slackening of tension in the harness, he will know instantly that there has been some foul play and raise an alarm before the prized object in lands in one witchdoctor’s cauldron in Ondo or Ijebu.

    None of the accounts I have heard came from someone who personally witnessed, much less experienced, this troubling phenomenon.  Usually, it was a neighbour or friend or relation of impeccable integrity that had witnessed it.  And the victim, invariably, was a total stranger, never their father, husband, boyfriend, son, distant cousin, or even a neighbour.

    And as argument raged back and forth about whether the reported incidents signalled the advent of our much-postponed technological breakthrough or constituted a gigantic hoax on popular credulity, it struck me that, either way, something should be done, fast.

    The veteran educator and iconoclast, Dr Tai Solarin, has set an example in a different context.  When it was being claimed the other day that some people possessed the power to turn humans into goats, the founder of Mayflower School, Ikenne, had publicly challenged anyone who had such power to step forward and turn him into a goat. If the conjurer succeeded, the goat should be slaughtered on the spot.

    Dr Solarin, I presume, still stands by that audacious wager.  But no conjurer has surfaced so far.

    It seemed to me that somebody should post a similar challenge and thus silence those peddling tales of vanishing manhood.  I was even going to post the challenge myself, as a contribution to the advancement of science. But I have been warned by some people who have a vital stake in the matter not to do so.

    What it, in the end, it was not a hoax?

    And just in case I persisted, an attorney of the first rank has been retained to seek an injunction restraining me in perpetuity from pursuing the matter, and the learned fellow has given his clients a solemn assurance that no question of locus standi will arise,

    Being a firm believer in the rule of law and in due process, I have decided not to press the matter.  But the enterprise, I am happy to report, is far from doomed, thanks to a gentleman of my acquaintance. We first met some three years ago at business luncheon where, alone among more than 20 diners, he had ordered a lemon drink with his meal.

    “Haven’t you heard?” I teased him.

    “Heard what?”

    “Let it die,” he replied plaintively.  “It has been the source of all my problems.  Let it die.”

    The fellow, just barely into his thirties, had four wives and 13 children at the time.  His youngest wife had just turned 16, and the folks back home were threatening to send him a pubescent maiden.

    If the source of all his problems were not merely to die but to vanish altogether, irretrievably, I reckon that he would be exceedingly glad.  When I made a proposal to him along that line, he accepted it enthusiastically,

    All this will no doubt be grist to the mill of the junk magazines whose numbers seem to be growing exponentially.  I can imagine some of the titillating headlines already, as well as actual or contrived stories of would-be intimate encounters gone frightfully awry.

  • ‘Wife hit hubby with frying-pan before cutting off his manhood’

    A Lagos High Court yesterday heard how a lawyer, Udeme Otike-Odibi, cut off the manhood of her husband, Symphorosa, after hitting him on the head with a frying-pan on May 3, last year.

    Testifying in the trial of Udeme for the alleged murder of Symphorosa, Olusegun Bamidele, an Assistant Superinterndent of Police (ASP), said she also stabbed the deceased in the stomach with a kitchen knife.

    “Still furious, Udeme sat beside her husband on the bed and said: ‘If this your manhood is the one that is giving you licence not to have the feeling of another person, it’s better we cut it off. Udeme then cut the manhood before putting a piece of it in his right hand,” Bamidele told Justice Adedayo Akintoye.

    Bamidele of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos Mainland, said she recorded the defendant’s statement as  the head of the team that investigated the killing.

    The defendant, he recalled, said she and  the late Symphorosa were having marital issues.

    “She said the deceased was having extra-marital affairs and whenever she raised the issue with him, his responses were not satisfactory. He appeared nonchalant.

    “She said also in the statement that on May 2, 2018, she was preparing to travel to the United Kingdom. She checked the bedside locker for her marriage certificate. When she could not find it, she went to the deceased where he laid on the bed and asked him about it, but there was no response, the response given was not okay.

    “She had a discussion with him and there was hot exchange of words, which made her to go to the kitchen and get a frying pan and knife.

    “When she returned to where the deceased laid, she hit him on the head with the frying pan and said: ‘Tell me, what is on your mind that you are withholding.’

    “She stated that the deceased called his mother to report her conduct. She continued to hit the deceased on the head again and again. Finally, she confirmed that she used the knife to stab the deceased in his abdomen.

    “She said while the deceased was lying on his back, she was still angry. She sat beside him, looking at his intestines coming out and said: ‘If this your manhood is the one that is giving you licence not to have the feeling of another person, it’s better we cut it off,’ and she proceeded to do so with the same knife she used in stabbing him and hanged a piece of the manhood in his right hand.’”

    Led in evidence by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Titilayo Shitta-Bay, Bamidele said after the incident, Udeme sent her friend, Maureen Offor, a WhatsApp message which read: “I have done something terrible.”

    She sent two other WhatsApp messages, first to the husband of the deceased’s younger sister, Charles Akpoguma, which read: “Just pray for us. May God forgive.”

    The last one was to her mother in Calabar, Cross River State, the same night. It read: “Sorry mum, we engaged in a fight.”

    Her mum tried to reach her, but she couldn’t get through.

    Bamidele said a few minutes later, Udeme called back and said: “Don’t disturb my life, let my phone be free so I can receive calls from the ambulance.” Then she cut the call.

    Things took a graphic turn when the prosecution showed pictures of the defendant in hospital after the incident and her late husband on his deathbed.

    Udeme looked straight from where sat in the dock while the amplified pictures were displayed on a wall to her right.

    Shitta-Bey also tendered through Bamidele several exhibits recovered from the defendant.

    They included a big, shiny frying pan, a blood-covered kitchen knife, a bloodstained pen, four phones, two of which were bloodstained, Udeme’s Nigerian and British passports.

    But when Shitta-Bey sought to tender the two statements Udeme made to the police, her counsel, Mr Olusegun Banjoko, opposed her.

    After showing the statements to Udeme, Banjoko, prayed the court not to admit them as they were made in her lawyer’s absence.

    Justice Akintoye adjourned till February 25 to consider the admissibility of the statements in a trial within trial.

    A man identified simply as Aliyu has allegedly cut off the male organ of his 12 year- old- cousin,  Farouk Ibrahim in Babana area of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger state.

    Sources told The Nation that Aliyu accosted Farouk who was taking food to his siblings at a farm and strangled him, following which Farouk became unconscious.

    It was gathered that Farouk later regained his consciousness amid pains and returned home to narrate the story to his parents, after which he fainted as a result of exhaustion.

    Speaking with The Nation in Minna, Farouk recalled that Aliyu attacked him at about 6 a.m about 200 meters on his way to the farm.

    “I did not know what was happening, I woke up in the afternoon and was feeling pains in my manhood. When I looked down, I noticed that I was bleeding and my manhood have been cut off. I had to gather my strength and struggled to get home. I walked and in some places, I had to rest because the pain was much. I never knew one can feel such pain and survive. The pain was unexplainable. ”

    One of Farouk’s uncle, Usman Dutte Aliyu explained that the incident took place December. He said Farouk was taken to a Teaching Hospital in Ilorin, where a temporary surgery was done on him and a catheter was inserted in his body to allow the boy pass out urine.

    He asked for assistance from government and individuals to enable Farouk undergo a comprehensive plastic surgery so that he will have a functional manhood.

    The Head of Surgery of the General Hospital, Minna, Dr. Adamu Bala who examined Farouk said although the Teaching Hospital in Ilorin tried to save the situation, Farouk may never have a functional manhood unless he goes for an elaborate plastic surgery which is not done in Nigeria.

    He said: “I reviewed the case of the boy. He was taken to the Teaching Hospital in Ilorin, they were able to save the situation at that moment. They were able to do some kind of plastic surgery to stop the bleeding and they inserted a catheter so that the boy would be able to pass urine. The only unfortunate part was that the amputated part was not seen and could not be sutured back.

    “For this boy to have a functional penis, he will need an elaborate plastic surgery, a kind which I do not think we can do here in the country,  he will have to be taken abroad where he would be assessed and examine to see how they can fashion a functional penis for him”, Bala said.

    “Right now, there is the psychological and physical disturbance that the young boy is going through. Before now, he would have experienced erection but it cannot happen again. Before the incident, he was passing urine normally but now, he is passing urine through a pipe which is very abnormal and can be depressing. He needs urgent help. ”

    According to Usman, the suspect who initially fled has since been caught by the police.

    He said the suspect had made confessional statement to the police and taken detectives to the site where he buried the boy’s male organ.

    Usman said the cost of changing the catheter every month and antibiotics for the victim is gradually telling on the finances of the family especially when they have to transport the boy from New Bussa to the hospital where the catheter would be changed monthly.

    He appealed for interventions from the state government and individuals to assist the family.

    A 25-year-old man, Aliyu Mohammadu, has cut off his cousin’s manhood after accusing him of stealing his N3,500 in his New Bussa, Niger State residence.

    Mohammadu, who lives in Babana Borgu in New Bussa, claimed he caught his cousin, Ibrahim, take the money from his room and ran away.

    The suspect said he had no regret over the inciden. He  threatened more harm, if his money was not given to him.

    “What I need is my N3,500, otherwise I am going to do more harm in the family. I have two wives and two children to carter for, I need my money to look after them,” he said.

    It was learnt that Mohammadu and Ibrahim have not been in good terms and when he confronted the victim for his money,  he claimed he never touched his money.

    “And when I confronted him on his way to farm, he told me to go and look for where I kept my money, insisting that I should not disturb him again about the money.  I got annoyed and attacked him with my cutlass.

    “My cousin was rude to me after he made away with my N3,500, he fought me, that was why I cut off his genital organ leaving him in pool of blood,” he explained.

    Police spokesman Peter Sunday confirmed that the suspect was arrested for cutting off his cousin’s manhood.

    Sunday said Ibrahim was rushed to a specialist hospital in Ilorin, Kwara State, for treatment.
