  • Chidinma, Mannie, Maria Okan to thrill kids at summer event

    As organisers put finishing touches to the anticipated children’s summer event to be hosted by MTN, popular songstress, Chidinma and top radio OAPs Mannie and Maria Okan have been selected to thrill kids at the show.

    Maria and Mannie will be hosting the day-long event while Chidinma will be on ground to perform and hang out with the kids. It is also expected to be attended by young Nigerians that are achieving notable feats in diverse fields.

    Kareem Waris Olamilekan of Waspa Art, the youngest hyper-realism artist in Africa, who painted President Emmanuel Macron of France during his last visit to Nigeria will be there to do some magic, just as Obaloluwa Odelana, a 13-year-old JSS3 student will anchor the Virtual Reality masterclass at the event. There will also be a levitating man, life-sized toys, holograms and lots of exciting games.

    Tagged mPulse Planet, the event will see MTN Nigeria launch a new proposition called MTN mPulse for children between ages 9-15.

    Packaged for all participants to learn and play, the event will take place at the Landmark Events Centre on Thursday, 23rd of August, 2018.

    The proposition to be launched at the mPulse Planet is designed to prepare tweens and teens to take on the future, by equipping them with information and skills to help them achieve their dreams.

    Open to all parents, tweens and teens between the ages of 9-15, parents are required to register their children on the mPulse.

    Recording artiste and Cool FM On-Air-Personality Mannie, penultimate Sunday launched a new book, titled What A Life, to detail his growing up years.

    The event which held at Monty Buffet, Victoria Island, Lagos, was attended by family, friends and associates of Mannie whose real name is Emmanuel Essien.

    Among the A-list guests include members of the Moussali family led by Amin Mousalli, owner of AIMS Group, which includes CoolFM, Wazobia and Nigeria Info, Akin Alabi, CEO Nairabet.com and Mai Atafo,  Nigeria’s bespoke fashion tailor and a host of others.

    Justifying the need for writing an autobiography, Mannie, who is Head of Innovations for CoolWazobiaInfo, said he wanted to be able to impact his generation and beyond.

    The book not only captures Mannie’s riveting story as an innocent teenager but also reveals warts and all.

    Speaking about his greatest influence as a singer, song writer, Mannie said the list would naturally include his parents who introduced him to music at an early age. He also counts his late friend Uche, his boss at Cool FM and of course, the famous Larry King, whom he has met as influences.

    The highpoint of the occasion was when Mannie’s boss, Amin Moussali, apart from showering Mannie with an undisclosed sum of foreign currencies also promised to do a film of the book for Hollywood.

    Mannie also serenaded guests with one of his songs as others joined him on the dance floor.

    Seyi Law, Waje, Mannie, others inspire students at Project Capable

    Rubies Ink initiative held its sixth edition of the Project Capable event, an annual all-secondary school summit, at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos on the June 10, 2015.

    The theme of this year’s edition is Young, Empowerment and Succeeding, YES. Present at the event were Aituaja Iruobe, Matthew Femi Adedoyin, Emmanuel Essien, Oluwaseyintan Aletile with over three hundred students from various secondary schools.

    Emmanuel Essien, one of Nigeria’s leading On-Air Personality spoke on the role of youth and celebrities in nation building. He noted that not everyone is born lucky or with a silver spoon, as such, one needs to work smart to achieve greatness.

    The second speaker, Matthew Adedoyin, a popular abstinence advocate and child psychologist spoke on the topic; “What no one tells you about sex”. He said many people fall prey to abortion and unwanted pregnancies because they were misguided and feel the urge to be part of ‘the normal thing’ syndrome. He wrapped his speech by saying abstinence is the key to a safe life.

    In her contribution, popular songstress, Aituaja Irobe popularly known as Waje, spoke on ‘discovering your purpose in life’. She told the students that for them to attain the height they want, they need to find out what they love, they need to be motivated, get a mentor, be focused and purposeful, and put God first.

    The students were thrilled when it was the turn of Oluwaseyintan Aletile popularly called Seyi Law to speak. He told the students that talent is not enough, and that they need to be educated, whether or not they want to make use of the certificate. “It will serve a bragging rite for the person,” he said, adding that, for one to become great in life, one needs to make some sacrifices.

    The Assistant Head Boy of Isheri Senior High School, Kayode Dolapo, was greatly inspired by the lectures. He said: “From today I will build my passion, will be focused and do my best in my education to be a better person tomorrow, and I am sure every student present were inspired as well.”

    The coordinator, Esther Ijewere- Kalejaiye, she said it has been God all the way, to have held a successful sixth edition.

    Mannie delivers surprise freestyle on MTV Base Naija Top 10

    FEW days after being named Favourite Nigerian On-Air Personality at the Kids Choice Awards in Inglewood, California, Mannie, who was the co-host of this week’s episode of the Official Naija Top 10 chart show alongside regular host VJ Ehiz surprised fans with an impressive acapella.

    Ehiz, could not but open his mouth in disbelief, as the radio man flowed  effortlessly for nearly one minute, without stumbling or losing his flow.

     On the countdown, last week’s top four tracks remained unchanged as Kiss Daniel’s “Woju”, Davido’s “The Sound” ft Uhuru and DJ Buckz, Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba” and Orezi’s “Shuperu” stayed at numbers one, two, three and four respectively.

     Last week’s new entrants “Mawobe” by Tilla and Flavour’s “Ololufe” ft Chidinma rose by one and two respectively to number five and six. Banky W’s “Unborn Child” featuring Lynxxx dropped three spots to number eight this week while Endia’s “Me And My Guys” bows out of the chart.

     This week’s only new entrant is “Rockstar” by Burna Boy, which comes in at the number ten spot, and the week’s ‘Hot Or Not’ track is “My Wife” by Bolo J.

    Cool FM’s Mannie, Angelina Jolie, others win big at Nickelodeon awards

    Nigeria’s Cool FM on-air-personalility, Mannie, joins several international celebs, who, last Friday received top honours, at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards (KCAs) in Inglewood, California, United States.

    Mannie, host of the popular ‘Mannie and the Angels’ radio show, who won the award for Favourite On-Air Personality Nigeria, defeated fellow nominees, Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, Tosyn Bucknor and Big Tyme to clinch the most votes from Nigerian kids.

    Voting for this year’s edition of the KCAs took place on 19 localised voting sites across six continents, in addition to twitter hashtag voting.

    Mannie joins last year’s winner, Freeze, as the second Nigerian OAP to be recognised at the Kids Choice Awards since inception.

    “I cannot believe I won Best OAP in Nigeria at the KCAs 2015… I’m too excited! I am so grateful to everyone that voted for me and I know that this is just the beginning of greater things to come,” he said.

    Hosted by recording artist/actor Nick Jonas, the awards took place at Los Angeles’ legendary “Fabulous” Forum, where kids celebrated their favourites from the worlds of film, music, television and more.  Kids from around the world cast more than 500 million votes, a record-breaking tally.

    Other big winners at the show included Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence and and Spongebob.

    The international awards had a host of superstar nominees across different award categories such as Troy Sivan (Favourite Internet Sensation), Iggy Azalea (Favourite Australia/New Zealand Music Act), Alexis Sanchez, Wayne Rooney, Diego Costa, Raheem Sterling (Favourite UK Football Player) and Ed Sheeran, Little Mix, Jessie J and One Direction (Favourite UK Music Act).

    In addition to the awards and several thrilling stunts, the 2015 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards also featured 5-star performances from 5 Seconds of Summer, Iggy Azalea among many other performers.

    The star-studded telecast featured additional celebrity participants, including: Jamie Foxx, Emma Stone, Liam Hemsworth, Chris Rock, Zendaya, Echosmith, Josh Gad, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, Grant Gustin, Debby Ryan, Chloe Bennet, Fifth Harmony, Joe Jonas, Nick Cannon, Shawn Mendes, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Kevin James, Mo’ne Davis, Skylar Diggins, Ross Lynch, Quvenzhané Wallis, Meghan Trainor, Jennette McCurdy, Laura Marano, Katherine Herzer, Jennette McCurdy and Bethany Mota, plus cast members from The Haunted Hathaways, Instant Mom, SpongeBob SquarePants, and many others.
