P-Square’s Ikeja mansion up for sale

Psquare Ville, the Ikeja, Lagos mansion of Jude, Peter and Paul Okoye has been put up for sale.

Though the Okoye brothers now live in their Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos mansion, a picture of their Ikeja house with a ‘For Sale’ sign was taken by a fan and uploaded to Instablog9ja on Thursday.

This is coming after a second rift which has split the twins, P-Square and their elder brother manager, Jude.

Recently, Peter had written their lawyer, Festus Keyamo, to dissolve their group.

“What I am about to do has been a very difficult decision to make,” said Peter who now goes by the name, Mr. P.

“I have decided to use this medium to terminate the agreement between Psquare.

“Me and my wife have been getting life-threatening messages and I fear for my life and the life of my family. Remember Jude has threatened to kill me and shoot my wife in the presence of Paul and Mrs. Imoke. Psquare is no more. I have nothing against my brothers. I saw Paul’s post on Instagram about blood being thicker than water. Who is water and who is blood?”

  • Paul Adefarasin erects stunning mansion in Banana Island

Although the Bible admonishes Christians to lay up their treasures in heaven, many Nigerian Pentecostal pastors have tweaked the doctrine to suit their posh, flamboyant lifestyles. They are rather laying up their treasures on earth, in the shape of private jets, luxury vehicles, palatial mansions and multibillion naira auditoriums. It would seem now that there is a race among church leaders to prove the strength of their purses.

The bug of choice properties acquisition appears to have also bitten Pastor Paul Adefarasin, a televangelist and founder of House on the Rock Church. He recently completed the building of a multibillion mansion situated in a choice location on Banana Island. The chin-raising new abode of Adefarasin in the heart of the most expensive estate in Africa is a study in architecture.

  • Inside kingpin’s mansion

The sky blue and white mansion has a bar loaded with expensive liquor. The sitting room is painted white. The floors are garnished with brown Italian tiles to complement the black large screen television, white settees and transparent glass dinning set. There is a folded red rug beside the bar.

There are four rooms, all ensuite, in his personal mansion situated at 3, Fred Shoboyede, off Basiru Road, Magodo with each bathroom having a Jacuzzi, glass bathroom and neatly tiled.

The mansion is fortified with bullet proof doors. There is a silver safe stuffed with dollars. There are also two SIM cutters on the safe.

There was no family picture on the walls. Evans has a state of the art kitchen, with various electrical appliances.

The compound is German floored and there are Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, with its a control room by the inner staircase, where he monitors movements in and out of the house. There are two generators in the power house.

The kingpin also has a another duplex at 96, Emmanuel Keshi Street, Magodo, which he said was rented out.

Parading the kingpin and six of his suspected gang members, Force Headquarters spokesman Jimoh Moshood, a Chief Superintendent (CSP), said the police would go all out to ensure that they face the law.

He said all the law would take its course on Evans’ properties.

Moshood said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris left nothing to chance to hunt Evans down, noting that it took so long to get him because his picture was not immediately available.

Jimoh said the suspects were assisting the police investigation, adding that any prominent person found to be a member in any way would be exposed and prosecuted.

  • A MANSION FOR PLAYING BUFFOONERY

REMINISCENCE of late Wasiu Ayinde Barrister’s inference of the so-called madman whose meal of pounded yam is enriched with the yummy arm of a goat, and his meal of yam flour ‘proteined’ with the chunky lap of the ram; Funke Akindele adds to the list of comics whose ludicrous but amusing drama characters have earned them a fortune.

Last Monday, the Jenifa branded actress threw a lavish house-warming party at her newly acquired home in AMEN Estate in the Lekki axis of Lagos. I tried to inquire how much the mansion tagged ‘Afin’ goes for, but the AMEN Estate agent told me I must register on their website with One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100, 000), a standard procedure before being availed with any information on the property). However, with the features of the property, I guess it is easy to know how much it is worth.

The ‘Afin’ is a 7-bedroom detached mansion inspired by ancient design. It is a classic example of the Amen Estate collection that successfully blends the graceful architecture of past with present day technology. It features airy terraces and casement windows to ensure maximum comfort within the home. It is finished with the finest porcelain and granite floor tiles, elegant POP ceilings, fully fitted kitchen with granite worktops, fitted wardrobes, Jacuzzi steam bath with shower in the elegant master bedroom bath, and various other luxuries. In addition to the 7 en-suite bedrooms is a Study, 5 receptions/lounges, 7.5 bathrooms, 4 balconies/terraces and 2 Room Self-contained BQ.

Although the actress started off playing a serious character in the UNFPA-sponsored Nigerian family-oriented television series on adolescent reproductive health titled ‘I Need to Know’, following which she featured in several Nollywood films, some of which she produced herself. However, Akindele’s commercial break only happened when she produced the 2008 comic drama, Jenifa – the success of which gave birth to the sequel, The Return of Jenifa (2012) and now the ongoing Jenifa’s Diary, a star-studded television series which has branched into DVD form of distribution across the globe.

When Akindele, who also runs a drama school called Scene One, decided to reproduce the TV series in DVD at a time when the format is an easy prey for pirates, not many knew that her resolve was to satisfy her fans who are spread beyond Lagos and indeed the shores of Nigeria. This underscores some of the business initiatives which stand the thespian out.

Abuja-based filmmaker and media personality, Charles Novia, captured the verve of Jenifa’s Diary when he said, “The series is such a huge hit. In the North, the bourgeois kids and adults are crazy about it, apart from Southern Nigeria. And in the UK and America, it has a huge followership especially with the British-born kids and teens.”

Corroborating Novia’s position, another filmmaker, Uzodinma Okpechi posited: “Charles, I have been a student of Jenifa and I feel the same way you do. But I have been asking questions and all the answers have been the way she talks and murders English in a way that makes people laugh. Funke now has a lingo.”

Many have agreed that Jenifa falls under that category of entertainment powered by franchise, thus Novia thinks that Jenifa came at a time pop culture in Nigeria was ready to embrace the social media phenomenon in the acceptance of viral characters. “Funke was smart to recognise this and carried on with the franchise,” he submitted.

Few months back, my piece in this space explored why Funke Akinde is huge in London and I recall saying that the Nigerian actress and comedian, though now married to London-based singer, Abdulrasheed Bello, aka JJC, had long ‘possessed’ London as her second home outside of Lagos.

“It is not clear how the Glo ambassador and crossover thespian got to this point in her life, but recent events show that just as Genevieve Nnaji was practically living in Ghana in her heydays, Jenifa, as Funke Akindele is otherwise called, enjoys a fan base that endears her to London than any other city in the world.”

That article was prompted by three back-to-back premieres of a two-hour cut of Jenifa’s Diary in London, a feat never attained by any of the Nigerian films which have so far enjoyed premieres in the UK.

Promoters say Funke Akindele’s shows despite being staged in series; happen to be the most sold-out of Nigerian film shows in the United Kingdom.

Popular show promoter in the UK, DJ Abbas, when asked to comment on the actress’ popularity in London, said: “It is huge… Very huge o… We have sold out Friday which is a 600 capacity venue and there are indications that we will do the same for Sunday in London. Manchester is a 500 capacity venue and it is almost sold out as well.”

How the actress is able to carve a niche for herself in this market has to do with a business and social aura that is aided by today’s media. And it is doubtful that any other Nollywood figure can pull this kind of stuff right now in the U.K.

I tried to figure out if this is just about Jenifa’s Diary or the actress’ personality. I asked questions too, and it is amazing that there is something about her personality that suffices, despite odds.

Reports have it that in July when she launched her new season, she had a deal with iRoko TV where she had a Meet & Greet session in a 380 capacity venue and it was sold out in no time. Indeed, the attraction is Funke, whose rise may have been induced by the Jenifa brand. This much I witnessed of her in Toronto in 2008 where she took her art, when a huge number of the Nigerian community gave her a rousing welcome at the Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Needless to dig deep, looking for where her fortune came from: It is simply in playing the buffoonery. And I like to say that the actress has done so well for herself to earn this feat, because despite the ‘parallel’ line that exists between the Yoruba and English language sectors in Nollywood, Funke has been able to crisscross from television to mainstream Yoruba sector and the hub of today’s Nollywood quantum productions which is in Asaba, Delta State.

  • Inside Julius Rone’s Abuja billion-dollar mansion

Kingly luxury can only be truly defined in the comfort of the regal manor of Dr. Julius Rone. The recently erected billion-dollar mansion is a sight to behold. It dwarfs abodes once considered regal and causes poets to sink in confusion as they grapple with the adjectives to qualify Rone’s mansion.

Rone’s mansion is a real life pictogram of the fabled Wonderland. The exterior is garlanded with carven images, flowers and bunches of knot-grass. Inside, it is ornamented with panes of quaint decor, embroidered fabric and devices. Its ambience of splendid dyes and luxury titivate like the damasked wings of the tiger-moth. The exterior utters elegance without obscenity.

Inside, expensive incandescent bulbs brightly illuminate the architectural delight. Everywhere is spick-and-span and has the halo of an improvised Eden on earth. Pristine and exquisitely burnished with class, Rone’s mansion emphasizes without much effort the sheer tastefulness of the owner. The attention to detail that characterises the house is excellent. Both the interior and exterior decor were carefully chosen and planned with flawless finesse.

His thirst for prestige was perhaps what drove him into acquiring the choice property in Maitama, one of Abuja’s most expensive residential areas. The new mansion reportedly cost him several billions. And in bid to make the edifice worthy of his stature, Rone painstakingly modelled it into an Eldorado of sort; replete with the trappings essential to a life of glamour and allure.

  • North’s gov’s N2bn mansion unsettles Aso Rock

    North’s gov’s N2bn mansion unsettles Aso Rock

    •House overlooks seat of power

    •Anti-graft agencies may intervene

There are security concerns over a N2 billion mansion overlooking the Presidential Villa, just completed by an outgoing governor from the North.

The mansion is said to be built at an elevated point within the precincts of the Villa, making the seat of government vulnerable to “espionage” from the governor’s comfort zone.

It was not clear if the governor would be asked to remodel the new residence, be subjected to an undertaking or be placed on surveillance.

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that the governor had acquired the choice plot, said to be worth over N1 billion, in anticipation that he might play a key role if President Goodluck Jonathan was re-elected.

It was gathered that the governor had planned post-office life in such a manner that his residence would be a stone’s throw from the seat of power, but his dream crashed following the loss of the March 28th poll by the President.

Findings however revealed that the new mansion of the governor had been a security issue even before the general election.

According to a top source who spoke in confidence, the mansion was erected on an elevated level that “gives a view of movement in and out of the Presidential Villa.”

The source added: “The over N2 billion posh residence poses a security worry because with sophisticated equipment, the governor, as from May 29, can conduct some surveillance on the Villa depending on his political leaning or mischief.

“No one is comfortable with this development. Based on security audit, the elevation of the mansion is not good for the Presidential Villa.

“If the governor compromises after leaving office, the residence can be used for espionage or any other challenge.”

Another source however said: “I think the governor wanted to be a nominee for the Vice Presidential ticket but lost out to Vice President Namadi Sambo during the intrigues. It was in line with his target that he opted for a house near the Villa.

“I think there are three options available to the governor. These are : to remodel or reconfigure the house, be subjected to a security undertaking or be placed on permanent surveillance.”

It was however learnt that the governor had explained that the land was rocky and that was why it appeared the “elevation” is a bit higher.

“The house was built with the best of intention and not for any political or pecuniary gains. The Villa itself presents a scenery of an undulating landscape.

“Take a look at the Presidential Villa’s neighbourhood, many ex-governors, permanent secretaries, senators and others have houses there, “ a top source added.

At press time, it was gathered that the governor might be probed by anti-graft agencies on the billion-naira mansion at a time it was difficult for his state to pay some entitlements of workers who have retired from public service.

An anti-graft source said: “The house is worth over N2 billion. The governor might be investigated after May 29 when he will no longer enjoy immunity from trial.”

  • Rashidi Yekini’s mansion burgled

    Rashidi Yekini’s mansion burgled

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that a bandit broke into the palatial mansion of the late goal-king, Rashidi Yekini on Wednesday evening and carted away many valuables before he was nabbed by residents of the area.

The marauder, Julius Johnson, 29 was nabbed at around 6pm with neatly folded rugs, mattresses and other goods that he attempted to carry out of the compound of the house located along Oni and Sons Hospital area, off Ring Road, Ibadan.

The residents that foiled the robbery said they noticed and had been watching his movements around the house since the early hours of that day.

One of the residents, who notified the counsel to the late Super Eagles striker, Jubril Mohammed, of the incident, said the robber had carted away some goods earlier that day before he met his Waterloo on his second trip.

It was the legal practitioner, Mohammed, who is also in charge of the estate of the deceased that handed the robber over to police officers from the Oluyole Police Station.

Mohammed said apart from the goods recovered from the burglar many valuables were also discovered to be missing after an inventory of the goods in the house was taken.

The palatial Ibadan mansion where the soccer legend lived before his untimely death on May 4 2012 is in a state of desolation, having been taken over by weeds. This has caused serious apprehension for residents of nearby houses.

Yekini’s lawyer however said he’s on the verge of obtaining the documents that will enable him to take appropriate action on the estate.
