Carey also shared that she felt fortunate to have spent time with her mother before her death.

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” the statement reads.

Carey, however, did not disclose the cause of their deaths or the date of their passing.

  • Mariah Carey battles  bipolar disorder

In this week’s PEOPLE cover story, Mariah Carey has revealed for the first time her battle with bipolar disorder.

Although she was first diagnosed in 2001 (when she was hospitalized for a physical and mental breakdown), the singer revealed to PEOPLE’s editor in chief Jess Cagle that she find it difficult to believe. “I didn’t want to believe it”.

Carey says she finally sought treatment recently after the hardest couple of years she has been through. “Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me. It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn’t do that anymore. I sought and received treatment, I put positive people around me and I got back to doing what I love writing songs and making music.”

One of the most successful singers of all time, with 18 No. 1 hits and more than 200 million records sold, Carey spent many of her years in the spotlight suffering in silence.

She is now in therapy and taking medication for bipolar II disorder, which involves periods of depression as well as hypomania (less severe than the mania associated with bipolar I disorder, but can still cause irritability, sleeplessness and hyperactivity).

”I’m actually taking medication that seems to be pretty good. It’s not making me feel too tired or sluggish or anything like that. Finding the proper balance is what is most important,” Carey tells PEOPLE.

“For a long time I thought I had a severe sleep disorder,” continues Carey, now back in the studio working on an album due later this year. “But it wasn’t normal insomnia and I wasn’t lying awake counting sheep. I was working and working and working … I was irritable and in constant fear of letting people down. It turns out that I was experiencing a form of mania. Eventually I would just hit a wall. I guess my depressive episodes were characterized by having very low energy. I would feel so lonely and sad — even guilty that I wasn’t doing what I needed to be doing for my career.”

Carey, who co-parents her 6-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan with ex-husband Nick Cannon, says she decided to come forward because “I’m just in a really good place right now, where I’m comfortable discussing my struggles with bipolar II disorder. I’m hopeful we can get to a place where the stigma is lifted from people going through anything alone. It can be incredibly isolating. It does not have to define you and I refuse to allow it to define me or control me.”

Mariah Carey walks away in middle of New Year show

Following what looked like a technical difficulty during her New Year Eve performance at the New York City’s Times Square, music diva, Mariah Carey reportedly had a live meltdown and eventually abandoned fans in the middle of her show.

The pop star was said to be miming her song, ‘Emotions’, and when she couldn’t hear the song playing, she asked the audience to fill in the blanks for her. Minutes later, she gave up trying and left the stage before her time was up.

Taking to the social media shortly after, the singer tweeted; ‘Shit happens. Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here’s to making more headlines in 2017’, as fans were reacting to the situation.

Known for her remarkable performances, Mariah had been contracted to perform at the world-renowned event but was caught lip-syncing to two of her songs, ‘Emotions’ and ‘We Belong Together’.

“Well, Happy New Year. We can’t hear, but I’ll just go through the motions,” she remarked before walking off stage.

Last December, the songstress was booed by concertgoers after arriving 45 minutes late for her performance at the city’s First Direct Arena.

According to reports, she was supposedly due on stage at 20:45 (local time) for the latest instalment of her Sweet Sweet Fantasy show – but instead arrived at 21:30.

Her fans didn’t take kindly to the punctuality faux pas, venting their frustrations.

Many believe the singer is becoming a regular pass in the news lately for all the wrong reasons.

It was gathered that the new tour manager made a major mistake with the schedule that put the pop star in a difficult position with her beloved fans.

However, the singer was said to still deliver an impressive and energetic performance.

Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon reunite for kids at Easter

Few months after Nick Cannon filed for divorce from Mariah Carey, thecouple are back together for the Easter celebrations, living the moment as a family.

The joined other stars who had shared festive photos on the social media, as Carey’s post on Instagram captures her celebration with Cannon and their twins, Moroccan and Monroe. The family of four is seen partaking in an Easter egg hunt together. As Carey and Cannon hold themed buckets, Moroccan and Monroe have their eyes on the hunt ahead.

In the heat of their purported divorce, reports claimed that Carey sold their Bel Air mansion in Los Angeles without Cannon’s permission, leading him to file a lawsuit. Rumours about their breakup first gained steam in August, when Cannon said there was “trouble in paradise.”

Cannon reportedly initiated divorce proceedings more than six months after they confirmed their marriage is over. According to TMZ the TV personality filed divorce papers on December 12 – one week after they thrashed out an adequate settlement.

Despite reportedly agreeing terms, the website claim that Nick, 34, will not be entitled to a share of her enormous earnings from an imminent residency in Las Vegas.

But the couple appears to be putting the drama behind them as they bond in the spirit of Easter celebrations.

Their purported divorce notwithstanding, Carey has not allowed this to deter her, as she has recorded more successes in her career in recent times. For example, despite signing a new deal with Epic Records, the singer, earlier this year, announced a Las Vegas concert residency during an exciting appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and just last month, she had an epic karaoke session with James Corden on The Late Late Show.

  • Mariah Carey and Brett Ratner fuel romance rumours in the Caribbean

Mariah Carey and Brett Ratner fuel romance rumours in the Caribbean

Over since Grammy-winning singer, Mariah Carey, called it quits with former lover, Nick Cannon last year, she has been seen too frequently with film director, Brett Ratner, fuelling rumour that both artistes might be having a romantic affair.

Although Carey and Ratner had denied this report, recent events have again heightened the speculation, as the two were spotted strolling arm in arm, in the Caribbean.

Not just that, both celebrities had a joint birthday bash in St. Barts, as Carey turned 45 on Friday, and Ratner, 46 on Saturday. The lavish soiree reportedly took place on a yacht, Sunday night.

Earlier in the month, Carey posted a shot of her and the filmmaker “hanging out in the girls room” together. A few weeks later, they were seen having dinner along with Courtney Love.

It will be recalled that Brett and Mariah do have a long history of working together professionally, since directing the singer’s I Still Believe music video, in 1998. Ratner had directed seven more videos for the singer ever since.

One of the people who have shot down popped up romance rumours, was a rep of Carey’s who described reports of a romantic relationship between the pair as “ridiculous.”

However, the cuddly pictures that followed the denial seem to be telling a different story.

In a picture posted by TMZ, Ratner and Carey were spotted quite close, sitting on a cushion with Brett’s arm around Carey’s and two glasses of champagne nearby. And as though to divert the mind of rumour mongers, hours later, the website posted shots of Ratner kissing a girl who was not Carey.

Carey broke up with Cannon last summer, after the Americas Got Talent host, filed for divorce in December 2014. Their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, will turn 4 next month.

Cannon on the other hand is reportedly dating a model, Jessica White. The two lovers also, are perceived to be keeping their relationship from the public.

  • Fans criticise Mariah Carey for ‘poor’ show

Fans criticise Mariah Carey for ‘poor’ show

For what music buffs described as an off-pitch performance, American singer, Mariah Carey, came under attack by fans, after she performed, weekend, in Tokyo, Japan.

The concert was the first leg of her world tour concerts.

The fans, some of whom are asking the songbird to retire from singing, noted that Mariah’s voice wasn’t as strong as it used to be. They said the perfect pitch they have come to expect from her seemed to have gone AWOL, describing her show as a dodgy vocal display.

This is coming a few weeks after it was announced that the singer has separated from her husband of six years, Nick Cannon.

The 44-year-old songstress, and best selling female artiste of the last millennium, who is known for five-octave vocal range, was said to have struggled to reach any of the high notes in My All, while also sounding shaky on Hero.

Video of the arena show has already hit, giving room for more commentaries.

Sources said that Mariah also battled with microphone difficulties, with her gigantic butterfly ornament falling off her microphone stand during her rendition of We Belong Together, causing the singer to tell the audience: “I can’t go on.”

One disappointed Twitter user commented: “I don’t get how Mariah Carey went from one of the greatest voice of all time to sounding the way she does now,” while another wrote: “I love Mariah Carey but I think she should retire… She’s ruining her voice with every note she sings.”

Several others simply said: “She can’t sing anymore.”

However, the star’s rep denied any complaints, saying: “The comments we have heard from the fans have been great!”

The 23-song Elusive Chanteuse (classic modest Mariah) tour is set to travel to South Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Phillippines and Thailand, before moving on to Australia and New Zealand. There have been no UK dates announced so far.

Mariah’s husband Nick confirmed that the couple had separated several months ago, and the rapper has already replaced a tattoo of his wife’s name on his back with a gigantic Jesus Christ depiction.

  • More on Carey-Cannon split

    More on Carey-Cannon split

IN the wake of Mariah Carey’s split from Nick Cannon, fans and friends were concerned that the iconic singer would suffer another public meltdown, such as the one that caused deep concern back in 2001. Mariah is older and wiser now, of course, and she was rumored to be holding up surprisingly well in the weeks following her separation from Cannon.

However, sources say that when Cannon visited her apartment to work out the terms of their divorce and visit the couple’s twins, she was secretly hoping for reconciliation.

Insider claims that part of the problem is that Nick indulged her diva behavior instead of occasionally putting his foot down, and Mariah doesn’t know how to hold herself together without Cannon at her beck and call.

And adjusting to single life is reportedly taking a serious toll on Mariah’s health: “She often goes into trances. She even has special assistants whose job it is to stand behind her in case she falls backwards. On top of that, she drinks wine of champagne constantly. It’s a recipe for disaster.”

Kendall Jenner: “Obsessed” With Chris Brown

Though there seems to be something going on between Kendall and Justin Bieber, KJ reportedly has her sights set on Chris Brown. And friends say she’s crossed the line between infatuation and unhealthy fixation.

Apparently, Kendall developed a thing for the rapper after Brown went clubbing with her in July.

Whatever happened that night must have made quite an impression on Kendall, as friends say she’s been hatching plans to cross paths with Breezy ever since.

Mariah Carey plans Valentine concert fundraiser for charity

In her modest way of showing love to the needy, Grammy Award winner Mariah Carey is planning a private concert for a few guests at her home for the Valentine’s Day celebration.

The singer, who said a huge concert is not necessary, noted that the show would give her the opportunity of getting close to few cherished fans.

Carey is vending tickets to the private performance via Prizeo.com, a platform where influencers raise money and awareness for their chosen causes with prize-based fan campaigns. She promised the winner and guests an intimate concert in Mimi’s home.

“Hi darlings, it’s Mariah here! I’m excited to be here on Prizeo, doing something that I’ve never done before.

“You all know that this is my favourite time of the year, and so I’ve decided to give back and raise some funds for the incredible St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to my heart as a mom.

“In exchange for a small donation, you will be entered to win a trip to New York City (I’ll fly you from WHEREVER you are in the world) to visit me in my home, where I will give you and a loved one your own private concert… on Valentine’s Day!

“I wanted to do something extra special for such a magical organisation, and I thank you dearly for your support. I look forward to meeting and sharing a special moment with you. xo Mariah Carey ,” she posted online.

It is not clear if her twins and husband, Nick Cannon, will be part of that home show.
